Thought we should have a kids thread as a fair few of us on here have them.

Have to sit and watch Tayla have an op tomorrow. She is getting her eyes adjusted for mis alignment. All covered with Medicare/Health insurance except for the anesthetist's fees.We were told today that the gap would be between $250 and $750 depending on how the 1 hour op goes.

Operation is to cut the muscles from each eye and then reattach. Sounds simple but anything with the eye worries me. Rachelle is a bit worried about it and I gather it will hit me seeing her going under the general anesthetic.

Is all at a Day hospital and we have to be there by 8:30 as she is 4th in line for the operation. Have been told she may even be able to go to school on Wednesday.

That must be a very scary thing for you and her to go through. Best wishes to her.

Good luck tomorrow Tayla. Think the thoughts go to mum and dad though. They are the ones who this is hardest on more so than the kid. They seem to take all things like this in their stride, where as the parents sit there and stress. So good luck tomorrow Grant and Rachelle.

Will all be good we have known it may come for quite some time and the doc seems like a really good one too. Some mates at work have had the same op with their kids with the very same doc.

but yes i reckon it will be tough to see her pushed away. She is very special to me indeed.

Best wishes Grunt, to you and the family... no doubt she will handle it better than you and mum :)

I'd have to say that there is not much worse with kids when you are unable to help whilst they're in pain or discomfort.

I trust all will go well mate and your daughter will be able to console you when the patches come off.

No Patches, maybe double vision for a few days.

All the best to little Tayla and to you Grunt. I hope everything works out well. I have a 1 year old daughter and she' s very special to me too. It is hard when they are sick but that's why you take her to have the op in the first place, a bit of pain for long lasting benefit.

Very true Pip.

It's worth it in the long run.

Good luck Grunt. Not quite on the same scale, but after having had my 8 week old daughter put into a harness for hip displaysia a week ago, I can sympathise with how it's difficult to watch your kids under physical duress. Amazing how kids can adjust quickly and aren't bothered by this stuff as much as we are though.

Good luck Grunt, I'm sure it will all be fine.

I personally have had a cornea transplant and modern day doctors work wonders. She is in good hands. Keep telling yourself that. There is nothing to worry about.

Good luck with it all Grunt.

I have enough trouble dealing with our 11 week old crying with wind, can't imagine how i am going to be when/if something serious happens to her!

hope all went well mate, i know the feeling of helplessness, having recently spent everyday in hospital for over six months.

Just got home from it all and it was tough. The Hospital only let one parent in before the op and one in after. So I waved good bye as she was walked into the pre op. Was tough, then I sat alone for an hour until the op started and Rachelle walked out. We both sat there for an hour while the op happened.
Then came the hardest part for me, she wanted me there for her to wake up. I had to sit there while she came too. Her eyes were as red as and she is slightly cross eyed as they have tensioned up the muscles. I had to be the strong dad but could not handle my little girl looking like that. Was hard to sit with her for 2 hours in recovery trying as hard as I could not to lose it.
She is pretty good and is now on the lounge watching TV. The eye drops are a bit of a scare for her too. Will see how the op went in the coming days.

Well the recovery has started, she has just worked out how to play the DS with one eye closed. That way she has got round the double vision.

Good luck little princess!!!

You are a strong man Grant. I think I would have broken down.

I am tearing up at the thought.

Hah!

I remember during my recovery, I tried to get games that didn't require quick movements and having to see too many things at once.

Due to this, I discovered Kula World / Rollaway, which is one of the greatest games ever made.

woohoo for Tayla and congrats girl on working out a way around the double vision. Might be smarter than her old man ;) Glad it all went well Grunt. Keep us updated

This makes my eyes water just reading it!

Hope the recovery is painless Grunt. Agree with Larry - kids don't seem to make as much of a fuss about it as the parents do.

She had improved enough for me to leave her with Rachelle for a while and I went to the gym.
I get back 90 min later and there she is now playing Eyetoy on PS2 with Nanny. If she keeps this up Mum is worried that she will go back to school tomorrow and Rachelle will have to go to work. She planned the whole week off with Carers Leave. :)

Kids are resilient, two of my girls have gone under general, the first my eldest for dental work a year ago and the last time 4 weeks ago when my three year old broke her arm, with no problems. She has a cast from her wrist to her shoulder but it doesn't stop her doing anything. Parents worry more than the kids do.

Just turned 7. She slowed down a little tonight but on the whole it is pretty good. Being a normal girl she is worried about how she looks. She does not want to look into a mirror until the red is gone.

Going pretty good thanks Pippolo. Still a little red but on the whole it all looks good. Will find out how successful it was next week with an appointment with the Specialist.
