I'm getting braces put on tomorrow

There is no real point to this post, I just needed to express my anger.

I will have to persuade mum into buying me some golf stuff to cheer me up

Not that we will be able to afford it due to the price of them.

Why get angry ???? I WANTED braces when I was a teenager, Mum couldn't afford them - now I am left with bent misshapen gappy teeth - at least they don't clash with the rest of my head... SEE, there is always a positive side :)

Look after your teeth zac, they will last you a lifetime, unless you are a smart arse or a sugar freak

Why get angry ????
I was born without a few teeth including the ones either side of my front teeth.

I have worn a plate with 2 teeth on it so they looked normalish. Now im getting braces and the faggots at school will pay me out because of my false teeth.

Then again who gives a flying **** what they think.

I suppose they will look good in the long run.

Damn straight (pun intended)- also better that your parents foot the bill now rather than you have to cough up yourself later 8-)

I had braces as a kid

The amount of times I'd tear up my gums playing footy was crazy

Heaps better in the long run, its the most bizarre feeling when they are off

seems like a lot of kids get braces these days, do 'artificially' aligned teeth lead to breading straight toothed children?? ie, over time as crooked teeth get phased out with braces, will the orthodontist industry loose out... Just another stupid thought i often have.

Or do those with straight teeth due to braces not pass on straight teeth to their children....

A kid with the most perfect teeth could go for a general checkup and the dentist would say that they need braces. They just want their $$$

As for your thought kpac, I have no idea.

The orthodontist I went too reckons bottle feeding as an infant causes crooked teeth in the majority of people

Here's the deal: when you point out your puns, you're making a value judgement on me, the reader. You're saying: Hey reader, you see that play on words I just made? Yeah, well that wasn't an accident. In fact, I thought it was so clever that I didn't think your simple mind would be able to comprehend the brilliance of my play on words, and I wanted to make sure you know that I'm not only smart enough to use homonyms, but that I'm smart enough to point them out.

I am far to shallow to give it that much thought :)

Don't fight it Zac. You will be glad you did. Trust me (and the millions of others who once wore braces).

The girlies will love your straight teeth.

I had braces about 5 or 6 years ago...still have a checkup left with my orthodontist that I've never gotten around to actually have done. My teeth were pretty mangled and overlapping (especially my front teeth on my lower jaw), and I'd have a horrendous smile if I hadn't had the work done and endured the annoyance of the braces and then the retainer for a while afterwards.

It's all worth it Zac.

Chicks dig the nice teeth, it's worth a short term sacrifice.

Eat lots of corn on the cob and popcorn, especially right before you go for a check up.

Pretty much what everyone has said here zac, girls love a nice smile.

And horses but that is a whole other story.

Lucky bugger. When I was a teenager I needed braces but my oldies couldn't afford it. Now my jawline is different to what it should be and my bite is wonky. Yeah, it would have been a nuisance at highschool but I'd rather have had my parents pay for it instead of me!

Consider yourself lucky mate...

Got braces as a teenager, 25 years on the lower teeth have shifted. It must be like the ladies who get falsies where they have to go back for "top ups".

zacdullard

Got them on today. They feel weird but I will get used to them.

Will end up costing $5500. We got a payment plan where we pay $1500 straight up and then $200 a month.

It is worth it though because there is nothing better thatn a nice smile

Now make sure you brush them properly too.

My daughter got a special electric toothbrush to make it easier :)

They tell me that I have to brush my teeth at school. I don't think that I will be doing that. I think it can wait till I get home.

I feel sorry for the guys at school who were picked on because they brushed their teeth at school... Now I understand why they did it - didn't want to waste their parent's investment I suppose!!!!

I'm sure you won't feel a thing after a while Zac.

They should put out a pamphlet on the correct pashing technique.

$5500? Wow! You must have bought the tour braces. :)

Mined this thread, since I couldn't find the posts elsewhere where I bitched about braces.

Last time my kids went to the dentist, rather than take them to our usual, more expensive dentist, we went to a Bupa one since the kids check ups were free. We weren't that happy with them, especially when they pulled out Kyan's loose tooth without asking him, but by the end of the appointments both kids needed braces and could they make an appointment with the orthodontist for us! Well, of course it was a no and we haven't been back.

Anyway, the school dentist was rocking again so we got both kids in today. The extra benefit being when it's going, the dentist is the child specialist from our usual clinic who the kids see there. This is one of the better (I'll say best, having had a lot of experience with dentists, good and bad) clinics in town. Well she saw my daughter who had no issues, other than sealing up her 12yrs molars. She said if you wanted to be picky and went to an orthodontist they'd probably recommend braces, but she really won't be needing them. Saw Kyan after Jas and his teeth were in perfect condition, and she said he has perfect teeth and absolutely will never ever have any need of braces.

I've know for years that it's the standard up sell, but it's a friggin big up sell. In fact all the dental specialists I'm seeing at the moment have healthy, but far from perfect teeth. But if you ever watch any of those make over shows and you see the smile on the dental specialists they just look freaky!

Still, braces are better than none - I will attest.
