Ok, I've got my set to just about where i wan't to keep it and all purchased through oz golf.

I'm just not sure i've found the right 3 wood, i currently have the Macgregor MT Fairway in 15 deg. I was pleased with this mostly, until i put a stiff shaft in it, then i couldn't hit it, atm it doesnt have a shaft in it, just waiting for one to come, but i might give this to my son when i aquire another one.

What are the best 3 woods to have come out in the last few years, always see people crowing about the v steel are these the ducks nuts?

What would you buy or wish you never got rid of? In a 3 wood, i would be looking for something 15 deg and high ball flight, i like to be able to hit my 3 high over trees:smt108.

I'm thinking once i get the 3 wood sorted i will be set for a while. Happy with the MX500 and 909 combo happy with the KZG's really happy i didn't sell these since i went back to a regular shaft, happy with the mp-t series raw wedges and jumping over the moon about my Lajosi putter.

So what is a sweeeeeet 3 metal in your opinion guys?

I liked my Sonartec so much I bought it back off the Ozgolfer I traded it to. Wasn't a big rap for the Adams RPM LP 3 wd, but hey that's just me.

Still don't quite understand why I traded it in the first place, but she is back where she belongs :)

Some of you blokes need to go to the Derek Zoolander school for kids that can't read good and can't do other stuff well too.

Ziggy mine is the SS-03, the precursor to the NP series. Came with the stock Sonartec shaft, which when I removed it found it was a Fuji, it now has an Aldila 75S.

TM R9 3 wood, I have had nearly a dozen 3 woods and this is the first one I have been really happy with, as the 3 wood was my trouble club. I have also heard good things about the 07 Burner, G10 and 09 Launcher.

Look to be the standouts, who has hit both? how do they differ from each other. What would be the heavier head?

Another vote for V Steel, for easy to hit and high launch.

And Nike T40 4-wood, as the dark horse. (Wish I never gave it away.)

I use the sonartec SS2.5 in 15 deg and it goes great but I was using a V-steel 16.5 and if I wanted to hit over trees that would be my choice. Height of flight would be in your shaft selection and angle of attack.

Another vote for the vsteel, have it in the 3 / 5 - currently tied with the flatstick for longest in the bag. The 3 has a fuji hk-pro 95 and a speeder 869 in the 5 wood soon. :)

i carry both, the v-steel is a 5 wood.

love them both, would say the burner feels a little heavier, but it also has a heavier shaft in it.

my v-steel 3 wood was very beat up, got it cheap out of a second hand bin. i would still use it if it weren't for the burner.

both are great clubs.

Have you considered a 17* 4-wood or hybrid instead. Much easier to hit than a 15*, has less side spin so it should send the ball straighter and a bit higher without any noticeable loss of distance. With the 17* you can substitite a 21* hybrid for the 19* (if you have one), I have gone this way.

zigwah
7th August 2009, 09:31 AM
I hadn't considered a 4 wood or hybrid Raz, but may look into it after i have tried the 15 deg with a reg shaft.

I have had a Callaway VFT Pro 3 wood for a bit which has been a very good club, but I caved in and got an Exotics 3 wood a few weeks ago. I haven't had a proper chance to compare them on the course yet, but I am hoping that the TEE lives up to the hype.

I carry a battered old Nike T40 17 degree 4 wood. Easily the longest serving club in my bag and still my 'go to' stick.

Bugger 3 and 5 woods - get a 4 wood and a 21 degree hybrid instead.
