View Full Version : Shipping stuff from the UK?

Seeing as we've got at least one member over there, I thought I'd pose this question here.
I've got a good mate living in London and I've found a couple of things I wouldn't mind buying from over there and getting him to ship over for me. Is there a cheap way to do this, or is postage expensive?
The stuff would be less than 10lbs, isn't a whacky shape that would make postage difficult, and is legal. :)
Scottt? Others?

It's quite pricey. I shipped a set of irons to NSW this year through DHL and it was £41 (so about AU$85-90 at the current exchange rates).
Worth it if the price is right for the goods.
My in-laws are heading home in a week and I'd offer to send it back with them, but with the amount of shit my missus' mum has bought over here there's already a very good chance her old man won't be able to take his clothes home

I've had plenty of bike stuff sent from the UK, the shop I buy from uses Royal Mail and its always been reasonably cheap.

Are these big parcels, Just?
Royal Mail is really cheap for small parcels, but anything golf club size/weight they charge like a wounded bull.

They were reasonably bulky but lightweight-fenders, tyres etc. Larry should probably go on your advice, since you're on the spot.

If I was still hoing I'd look into it, Just , but I am being a good boy now. Same gear for three months and feeling gooooooood!!

Thanks Scottt. Will check out DHL. Pricier than I was expecting, but as you say, if the price is right.... No worries about the in-laws, I wouldn't want to get in the way of a womanly shopping spree, and I've got a good mate on the spot in London.
Hey just, I'm interested in the royal mail thing - from my brief research they don't post anything over 2 kg by airmail, which seems wrong to me. Have any of your bike bits been heavier than that? My item (a stereo thing) is 3.5 kg and not overy large , which seems reasonable for postage.

I've bought clothes from a few english sites - a heap quicker than US sites and a bit cheaper. Handy at the moment because the pound is a damn good conversion rate.

Ended up that my mate's got somebody who can bring it back for me. Sweet! In the meantime, here are the cheapest options I could find on the web if anybody ever digs up this thread:
Some guy on ebay: user name trevorntl (http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/trevorntl/)
