View Full Version : Yet another shaft question.

Was reading a golf mag while waiting to see if my cheekbone was fractured and read something about shafts that suit a quick transition.

Are they making this up or is it true.

Any comments much appreciated.

What is it that makes it better suited. Flex, kickpoint??

If you snap it at the hosel, then tip it a couple inches and throw it in a 5wood, it improves it a lot!

Yos.

A fast transition requires a stiff butt shaft, a very slow, unhurried tranition a soft butt. A delayed release needs a stiff tipped shaft, an early release, a soft tipped shaft.

It makes lots of sense to me... on golf and other things.....

Virge666, can you please recommend a list of premium soft butt shaft with low kick point?

Some good points, but there's more too.

The Whiteboard has a soft butt yet is awesome for heavy loading swings and fast transitions due to a very stable tip and midsection. Another is the Vista Tour series, soft butts and very stiff tips.

I have a quick transition, and for me the best shafts ever made are the Proforce V2's (not the HL version) - they just suit me perfectly in driver and fairway woods.

As mentioned the Vista Tour are good, as are the TM Re*ax TP shafts

Shafts that I hate, and therefore probably don't suit such a swing include: Aldila Proto ByYou, Aldila NV, Prolaunch Red

mine is pretty quick and i love the V2HL.

I have a soft butt and a stiff tip. My wife complains about the quick transition. :-)

When looking at shaft specs what range is a stiff butt or stiff tip in?

Can't quite follow?

The stiffness profile in these specs. What sort of numbers indicate stiff? Sorry I don't really make sense :)

you're right. you don't make sense.

the ones that indicate stiff are the ones with the letter 's' in their profile

There's no set number tho the UST stiffness specs are obviously comparable to each other. I like the shaft profile charts some guys can make up that show perfect H2H comparisons all along the shaft like this. The 6 mark is most important to tip stiffness. The black baseline is the 757R

the CPM numbers they register for the BUTT area are quite common for flex comparison. So according to that chart you see that the X range in the heavier has a CPM of 282, S is @ 265 or so. You often see that CPM rating on blanks on some sites. However there seems to be variation between types of machines used to measure them, so good club builders trim the tip of shafts to suit the individual and get them true to flex.
