What's the greatest sporting moment your team has ever had ?

It doesn't have to be a GF win to make it the best .... it's just a moment that really makes you proud that you support your team 8-)

Here's mine (sorry about the quality of the vid)

1988 South Sydney High beating Marcellin College to reach the Finals of the NSW State Rugby League Knockout. Highlight was a young Half Back scoring an intercept try to score under the posts at Redfern Oval to seal the game.
South Sydney High 18 Def Marcellin College Randwick 10.

pity the week later we got smashed by Canterbury Boys, the half got smashed by Jim Dymock.

You certainly carry a big smile for someone who has experienced so much disappointment over those 34 years.

It's hard to appreciate a premiership as a kid when your team is winning them every second year. But my passion for footy has grown as I've got older, and after a lean period, the premiership last year was very special.

This wasn't so much a team effort but will always be one of the most memorable spectating experiences of my life. I was at this game and the roar from the crowd was easily the loudest I've ever heard (I think supporters from both teams contributed to it).

I wasn't around for it but it would have to be Footscrays one and only VFL flag in 1954.

The moment that I have been around to witness would be knocking the Pies out in the 2006 Elimination Final in front of 90,000 odd.

We have obviously made it further than that the last few years, but that was pretty special as we hadn't played finals for quite a while before that!

No.

It was a great mark and it is seen as a great mark so then how is it overrated?

AndyP
10th July 2009, 03:58 PM
It is hyped up as the mark that won the Swans the Grand Final, which it did not.

My mate, Yossy, will back me up.

zacdullard

I didn't win the grand final.

It saved them from a potential goal by the Eagles.

zacdullard

Yeh the siren went a few seconds after he marke so it would of had to be a quick goal.

Yossarian
10th July 2009, 04:27 PM
He did basically take the ball of four other swans players. It is not like he flew 5 deep in a pack of eagles that included cox, lynch, hansen ect.

zacdullard
10th July 2009, 04:31 PM
Who do you go for anyway Yossarian?

It might be the eagles...

zacdullard
10th July 2009, 04:37 PM
OK. Now I can see why you do not like the mark

They are having an average year the same as my Roos

Yossarian
10th July 2009, 04:39 PM
I am a little biased, but it is more the fact he came in from the side and took it off a team mate. It wasn't a shit mark, it took some guts, but it wasn't that huge.

zacdullard
10th July 2009, 04:47 PM
I just had another look at the video, there were 3 eagles players in the pack but they all crashed into each other and went to ground.

Part of what makes the mark so special was the courage he displayed as it was just eyes for the ball and because it was just eyed for the ball it doesnt really matter if he took it off 5 swans players.

AndyP
10th July 2009, 06:18 PM

'78 Grand Final. Manly won the title after:

losing the major-semi against Cronulla,
after drawing with Parramatta, winning the mid-week semi-final replay,
knocking over the minor premiers Western Suburbs,
winning a mid-week grand final replay over Cronulla, after drawing it a couple of days before.

Having to play 6 games to become premiers in an era of final 5 football. Outstanding. Then having 7 players picked for the Kangaroo tour.
