In Sydney (possibly anything South of Coffs Harbour?), it's absolutely impossible to get your hands on XXXX Gold. I can't drink normal 'Quad X' (long story, boring bottle shop attendant), but Gold is a top drop and is the choice of Casino golfers waiting on the 8th tee (which is adjacent to the main clubhouse entry/bar).

G69 then said when he was in Melbourne, he dabbled with the Stella Artois.. sounds a like he's been hanging out with the Toorak crowd a little too long.

Beer preference here is Boags Premium, or Cascade/Hahn premium in it's place. All these companies make a really nice Light as well.

Besides, the XXXX Gold TV ads are brilliant. I'm calling my first-born 'Marlin' (boy or girl).

I'm learning a lot about you MtB. You're very brand inspecific. Let me have a guess at what you drive.... "car"?

Well, personally I am not a beer drinker, although the odd Corona (with lime - not lemon) goes down an absolute treat.... preferably after a hot day on the golf course.

Otherwise, you are likely to find me with a scotch in my hand, or a glass of red, or a glass of white, or one of those brightly coloured bottled ones, or a cocktail, or a liquer on ice....

hmm.... maybe I drink too much....

oh! and I did once try a beer called "Reschs Smooth" which apparently only exists in this part of the world - it was ok, too.... :D

Did you have the Reschs Smooth after your red, your white, a scotch and your cocktails? During our school years i'm sure you would have called that 'Rocket Fuel' ;) :P

No - I had it on a completely separate occasion while dining at an indian restaurant.... I am told that beer is the drink that goes with Indian food, but no one explained why? :?

I generally try to stick to one kind of drink each time I am drinking.... very bad experiences have resulted from mixing up different types of alcohol.... I don't think I can share them with you....

you guys have to treat yourselves to some German beer.

I've tried a few .... Schoferhoffer, Erdinger and Schneider Viess .. .all very tasty, wheaty drops that want to knock your socks off (5%)
the good thing about them is that they come in 500ml bottles
the bad thing is a carton(crate) will set you back around 80 clams for the schoffy's :(

If i'm poor (usually the way) i drink carlton midstrength (got one in my hand now)

actually going to go the the "festival of beers" next year at the Story Bridge Hotel here in brissy 8) my little sister went last year, and said the best beer she tried was the "chilli beer"

can't wait to try that one 8)

but if i drink spirits ... it's gotta be JD & dry ... love the stuff.

Did the tour of the JD factory last time i was in the USA, and it was totally awesome .... now i can't get enough of the stuff :D

Never managed to get hooked on beer of any sort. The few times I've gotten really hammered on beer it's been Guinness or Kilkenny etc. Probably only been drunk on XXXX once and that was because it was all we had in the boozer and I was dehydrated to start with. Get very bad hangovers on beer. :smt078 Might be allergic to hops?? Maybe I'm a wuss, but I don't mind a really cold Corona with lemon.... :smt061

Rum on the other hand.... :D :smt023 No hangovers. No problems. I used to always take Bundaberg rum with me to the states. Seppos loved it. Trouble was, we'd open one of those big bottles, have a huge party and drink the bloody lot. :smt030 :smt030 :smt030

Only been drinking beer for about 18 months (ignoring the odd occasion). Never really liked it until then. Don't know why. Most of the time I still don't like to drink the standard beers, prefer the premiums. I usually have Hahn Premium in the fridge at home. If I can get Cascade or Boags on special, they are good too.
Jamesons Irish Whiskey is a very nice drop. GG, you should try this, as a change from Johnnie.

Actually - just went and checked the cupboard to see if we had any of that - we have Grants, Ballantines, Chivas Regal, but no Jamesons and no Johnnie..... I quite like Glenfiddich as well :D

BrisVegas Corona with lemon.... better with lime.... 8)

Chivas Regal is very nice. Canadian Club is something a little different. That's what I have in the cupboard at the moment.

I am surprised no one has mentioned the best beer in Oz yet [hope I haven't missed it ?!] - Coopers is what you should have a crack at - any of them will do - Sparkling Ale / Pale Ale - I actually use their syrup to make my own draught and dark ale home brew - cannot abide paying current ridiculous prices for beer at the bottlo [for about $10 I get approx 28 tallies or 56 stubs]- also cannot abide drinking mid/golds - life is much too short to take it in sober. - but must agree that Stella is a nice beer !

Actually Jarro I had forgotten all about that commercial - which reminds me - if anyone in Sydney has seen a Morgan's Home Brew TV ad in the last 18 months can they let me know - as I will get my fee paid again ! -and no - I didn't get the home brew they mentioned - doesn't matter as I was well enough reimbursed for my limited skills.

Glennfiddich is the one. Although I'll drink jw red if I have too  . I was quite happy when they released scotch and dry cans.

There is only one way to drink corona. Pop the cap, take a big swig then add at least one nip of tequila. Then in goes the lemon. 2 of those to start the night, yeah baby.

All this advice is coming to you from someone who has so far this year drunk the equavilant of 4 standard drinks total (and most likely in 6 or 7 sittings)
