I am sure I am not the only one who has thought about this.

All someone needs is access to your golflink number, and your every move on the golf course can be tracked and possibly used against you. Wives, bosses, friends - sometimes you don't want people to know where you've been and when.

Why doesn't Golflink at least give you the ability to make your history private? Or at least password protected?

As an opt-in feature it would be a trivial to implement.

Too politically correct Henno, if my wife doesn't look in my golf bag she's less likely to look in my wallet for anything other than the folding stuff !

It's not difficult to obtain somebody's GolfLink number at all. I reckon I could get anybody's number pretty easily.

Contact Pacific and ask for a new number.

Explain that you believe some one has obtained your existing number for unknown reasons.

Breach of privacy and complaint means that they have to act.

If I was half inclined I would just to prove a point.

Seriously Kev if you are a registered golfer at a Club that uses Golflink then anyone can get your number.

There is some stalling ways to slow down the inevitable, one is being a member of two Clubs, therefore you can confuse the issue by playing golf at one Club and having the other club designated as your "Home Club" and using that GL No.

Henno, you can get even more paranoid, with the food and drinks levy.

If your club allows the barman to key in the member number (as an alternative to swiping a card), then someone can get plastered using the last 4 numbers of your golflink number.

I just thought it might have been more difficult as I'm with Golf Access, not actually a member, and I haven't submitted enough (make that any!) cards yet to get an official handicap.

You'll have to be quick, that levy usually only lasts about 8 weeks.

And I predict even quicker next month, as they will allow the proshop purchases on the card, as it's becoming a club-run proshop.

There is no personal and private information stored in the golf link information accessable by the public according to the definitions of Privacy Act. Otherwise they wouldnt be allowed to show what they show. Its worth remembering that things like Name, address, phone number, house ownership and so on are also not considered personal and private either.

Its interesting to note that the USGA handicap system allows a persons name to be displayed with their handicap record, and you can find out their handicap just be searching their name. This is in fact part of the handicap system which allows persons to check on someone elses handicap and 'dob' if they are suspicious of rorting. They call this "Peer Review"

Has Golflink gone mad?

Checking the comp results tonight and every comp I click on, the members of the home club are all there by name, not number.

Surely this is a glitch.

Yeah but only the members of that club show up as names. IF you played, only your number would be there.

Clicking on any Cairns comp makes interesting reading.
