View Full Version : Your National Rank

I can't say I look at my GolfLink page too often, but I had a look this morning and noticed that they have added a National Rank, based on your exact handicap.

Of course if you upgrade to GolfLink Mates , you can see your State, Club, and Grade rankings as well.

My exact at the moment is 0.1. Ranked 1211 (would have expected about 500).

My brother is on 4.3. Ranked 5232 (about what I would expect).

I'd like to see the ranking of someone on 36.4, if for no other reason than we could see how many GolfLink users there are (and how much the operators of GolfLink get out of male users).

The blokes one would have to be out of these guys I'd imagine -

Unlikely. any of the players in that list are defined as 'recognised golfers' and as such have national handicaps which are much harder to get low than a club handicap. (there may even be a limit of +1 for a national handicap :? ) - unless of course they have a club handicap somewhere.

The lowest club handicapped golfer in australia will most likely be some unknown Achilles Jones who lives out in the sticks, plays only one course off +6 or whatever and nobody else ever heard of him cos whenever he plays somewhere else he automatically plays of 0 or 1.

The lowest club handicap i have heard of is +4 from a couple of golfers. One of the Emerald Lakes blokes, wobbles between +2 and +3

Probably not as much as you are prone to being a ****wit.

we could do a ranking method for that.

Its actually quite scary to me to see how many golfers are playing off low numbers. When I was a young tacker, a 5 handicap got you into District and zone teams, and state schoolboy teams, and 2 would be State open teams.

Nowadays a 5 handicap is definitely B grade.

Having this ranking method of Golflink is a good idea, its fun to see where one stands in the scale of things. Doesnt really matter if it doesnt mean much. Also the National amateur rankings are on the Golf Australia site. Anybody that has played in GA point events will be listed.

Interesting.

My junior DGA team (only 6 clubs in the Murray DGA back then), the highest marker in the 7 player team was 1.

The current ACT junior team (which play in the Australian inter-state series) all play off 2-5.

Having said that, I am one of 2 in my junior side who is still an amateur. Marcus Fraser did OK I guess.

The handicap system was different up until sometime mid-late 80's when the 15% CCR was introduced, and maybe some other things. Prior to that it was more difficult to get the handicap down (thats an IMHO) of course equipment and development are other factors too.

The ranking won't update till tomorrow I would think. The movement in your rank today would be solely because some of those ranked around your old handicap changed yesterday. The system only updates once a day, otherwise it would be a nightmare to maintain.

The key to consistency at that level is that you just need to be the sort of golfer who always gets up and down from anywhere in 5 shots.

Good pioint, they have that in Germany. You need to be certified by a golf pro before being allowed on a course.

However just because a bloke averages 130 it doesnt mean he is slow or has poor ettiquette. I once played with a woman who had a 45 hcap, she couldnt hit a wood as far as my sand iron, yet she still played faster than most men.

PM, if someone pays the Ozgolf Mates annual fee they could come across this information by digging around the comp result listings for the club. Otherwise no.
