I'll be in Canberra for the long weekend with the missus and I've been allowed leave to play golf on Monday 8th June. The venue is likely to be Gold Creek and we're aiming for a tee time around 9:30-10 so we can play in the comp.

What times did you get Jono?

Jono
1st June 2009, 01:47 PM
What times did you get Jono?

OK, I got 10:36 and 10:44.

We are in the comp, teeing off straight after the members. The members tee times are booked out. We'll be teeing off BEFORE the social groups tee off, so we should be right.

I've booked a cart for myself. If anyone wants to share the cart with me, that would be great. If you want me to book any more carts, let me know.

It's approximately $55 for green fee plus comp fee.

sms316
1st June 2009, 01:50 PM
I think you will find it is $55, including the cart, plus comp fee.

Jono
1st June 2009, 01:53 PM
That's what I thought, Shaun. Unfortunately, because it's a public holiday, it's $55 without a cart. $71 with a cart (sharing).

sms316

I don't disagree.

It is $44 (GF) + $10 (CF) + $17.50 (cart). Still a rip.

tg01

I'm in. I no longer hav my membership there but that does seem a tad expensive. I can call and find out why the price hike if you like.

Wont be needing a cart, its a nice walk.

Any ideas on where to drink afterwards?

Love to but cant..pussy whipped.

Ive only just joined the lakes after a 15 years lay off(was in Newcastle then). Used to play off 4...more like 24 these days.
But yeah love to have a hit one day, but i think Gold Creek is a bit pricey for what it is.
Nothing against Scotty Harris(head greenkeeper) and his crew (they do an awesome job), but 70 odd bucks for a hit...turn it up.
Where is everyone else a member at in ACT/QBN?

Talked to a guy on the practice green who had just finished his round (shot 74 he said); he confirmed the course is in great shape except for the 3rd fairway which is preferred lie. Well finally home safe and sound. Delivered the Puppet Master to his dad.

What a day, 500km of driving, very little Driving on the course :( Just could not hit the L5V again today and ended up getting more success out of 4i. It without doubt totally destroyed my golf swing confidence. I was a mess after 12 holes in very trying conditions.

Thanks for the Game Razzar and Razzar jnr.

Also nice of TG to front up to the Pub afterwards, plenty of talent there too. TG who is the common denominator now for that sort of thing, only 3 of us are common to it now. Yourself, SMS & me who is it?

Thanks for the game guys. I had a ball. It was great to play with two good players (SMS and PM). They had a bet off the stick and Junior was leading by two until the 17th. After SMS birdied the hole and PM 3 putted for a bogie, it was all square teeing off the last. 2 solid GIR pars made it a tie. Great to watch. I was suffering in the cold but SMS's bottle of Stones kept it bearable. ;)

After the game, we went to an old English bar for a few drinks. Scottt might be happy to know that some of our discussion involved the "Ozgolf's dickhead of the year"

Raz gave me some handy tips which I will put to practice. It was good to meet TG even though he didn't play.

Just saw the photo with the bottle of stones, classic winter golf.

Where I grew up it was a mandatory addition to the winter golf bag, one i have passed on to my playing partners as i have moved clubs.

Sure gets the warm buzz in you at a 7.00 tee off in the frost

Stones is also handy when you have warm beer in summer, a nip or two in a warm stubby makes the beer comfortable enough to drink while you wait for the rest to cool down.

Stones should only be drunk neat from the bottle, which must also be wrapped in a brown paper bag.

Touche, Jono, now if you'd only actually met me...

I truly can't fathom just how pathetic it is - a grown man sitting at the pub talking about how much of a dickhead a bloke he has never met appears to be based on some banter on an internet forum.

At least Grunt or TG, if they were involved in this gripping discussion, have met me...

Good luck rebuilding the golf swing.
