View Full Version : What is a good price for a Cobra S9-1?

Saw a near new Cobra S9-1 at Golf Box today, 9.5 loft with NV-65S shaft for $270.

Seemed way too cheap.

Not the driver for me, but if that is cheap and anyone is interested, let me know.

man that is cheap I think I saw a brand newie for 5-6 hundi the other day. Would be keen if I wasnt already keen for a titty D2..

I would be gutted to outlay 500-600 bones on a driver, just to see it shafted with a dodgy Aldila NV.

Quite a few people like that shaft, for some reason.

Quite a few people like the DVS as well. I think I am starting to see a trend here.

Regardless, it's an $80 shaft so that makes for one expensive clubhead!

Was the NV a stock option ?

Flavzz

Whats wrong with Aldila? Just a general question because im no expert on shafts. I just hit a Aldila s-65 yesterday in a bridgestone driver and really liked it.. Dont know if it was a "NV"... whatever that is.. sorry im a noob to shaft specs

Whats the go with brands of shafts. whats the best? sorry to hijack thread aldo ;)

Was the NV a stock option ?

Don't think so. They have an Aldila DVS "for Cobra" stock shaft by the looks.

Flavzz,

NV is a green shaft.

An Aldila shaft is OK but a lot of people fault them for their quality control and being a bit spinny.

Was it green? A lot of Bridgey drivers came stock with NV shafts.

And don't listen to my rants about Aldila. I have a stupid "yanky" swing that just doesn't seem to work with them.

Actually, my swing doesn't seem to work at all.

I think the NV is a fine shaft.

The DVS is Ok as long as you have a smooth tempo/transition.

The VSProto i had in the G10 was a spin machine

I had my Nickent 4DX re-shafted with a NV, got it tipped and it is a weapon - i love it.
NV suits me at this stage, but I admit i haven't tried all that many alternatives that weren't factory fitted models so maybe I finally have a decent shaft in and I am just noticing that

After a six-pack of Johnny Premiums you won't care what my swing does!

I've hit a few drivers now with different Proto flex's and two of the R flexs felt completely different; one was really whippy felt like a seniors flex and the other plays a lot more like the stiff shaft I have hit...

Just a model name.

All shafts have a name.

Why call it an anything? It's just marketing mumbo-jumbo to identify a product.

adlo

Yes, now you have it.

Each model has different characteristics to suit different swings (except Henno's)

So what are the best shafts? and who makes em...

adlo
25th May 2009, 06:25 PM
That is a big question and depends on your budget and what suits you.

Virge would probably say best value shafts come from UST.

If you want to spend big bucks then the difficulty really begins.

henno
25th May 2009, 06:26 PM
It's all relative. But you can spend upwards and over $US1000 for a single shaft.

That of course doesn't mean a thing if it's not suited to you. The ball has no idea how expensive your shaft is!

Because you would be green with NV after I blue it by you (ie VS Proto).

NV is a solid shaft. It's the shaft I go back to after trying some fancy expensive shaft that goes nowhere.

Hux
25th May 2009, 09:13 PM
I gather it was a stock S9.1 not the S9.1 Pro which is the expensive one (better shaft generally speaking).

adlo

Stock S9.1 F Speed

I thought they were only @ $300 RRP anyway?

They are the replacement for the LD/F

adlo
25th May 2009, 09:43 PM
RRP is $300US, pretty sure they are $500 retail.

How much and why?

adlo
25th May 2009, 10:37 PM
Dunno how much, i was in a retail store so didn't look.

Have always had a soft spot for Mizuno drivers, had a MX500 with the wrong shaft and sold it (regretted it), and a MX560 which was a beast, but too loud a beast. The MX700 will combine the best of both worlds. Great looking club head.

Reviews look very promising.

I have a stock Adila DVS shaft in my Cobra X Speed. I've never been one to really play around with shafts though so I guess I don't know much different. But every time I think about upgrading my driver I can't give up on the X Speed. I think if I was going to get anything else it would be the S9 but only because I've had so much success with what I have at the moment. Nothing else gets a look in at the moment...
