Awesome win considering the strong field and terrible conditions

Brilliant win for Shane! Great to see an Irish man win his home tournament let alone an amateur! :)

It's a violin. You should have seen how much that violin enjoyed the win!

It's not all bad getting beaten by an amateur, Robert Rock still pockets the winners check of 500,000 Euro's :)

I thought amateurs are supposed to struggle to feed themselves. "Slim Shane" looks like he doesn't miss too many Sunday roasts.

Good win but carrying way too much weight for a young bloke.

When was the last time an amateur won a national open? Was Badds amateur here?

Yeah, his first one he was. Was it in 98? He beat Norman and Westwood, from memory.

Neither does the bloke who won the Irish Open.

Didn't he beat Monty at Royal Sydney?

He won in 1999 as an Am and 2000 as a Pro.

I sure the first win he pipped Norman and Westwood at the post.

It was at RSGC, but he beat Norman and O'Hern.

Wasn't he duelling with Allenby in one of them?

He was grouped with Monty in the amateur one on the Sunday, Norman shot low on Saturday but wasn't 'really' a factor.

He won his second one at Kingston Heath, I was there caddying :)

How can you argue Norman wasn't a factor when he shot 64-69 on the weekend (matching Badds on Sunday) to finish T2nd, two shots back?

I went to watch the 3rd round of the first Aussie Open that Badds won. It was at Royal Sydney and I mainly followed Monty around. He was striking the ball beautifully that day. 18 greens in reg. Putting was a bit ordinary though.

I watched Badds a bit. He had this preshot routine going where he would close his eyes to visualise the shot.

Greg had almost finished his round by the time I got there. He was well back in the field before he shot a great third round.

I didn't watch the final round on TV. I knew that Badds and Monty were paired in the final group. When I heard Badds had won, I presumed Monty came second, or thereabouts.
