This is my first 3 wood 15* since starting back, and i really like it.

At first it had a stock mac shaft in it the stiff black one and the i changed it for a UST HTD CB80, Didn't have it tipped and i hit it way lower than the black shaft.

Anyone hitting one of these? How does it compare to other recent 3 woods you have hit.

I absolutely adore mine, hitting it at least 240 carry when i strike it well.

And for thr the money, i think it punches well above it's weight.

Other owners thoughts?

Spot on. 240 carry with a 15 degree club is as far, if not further than most pro's.

I am not saying it is impossible, just unlikely.

And debates about distance always end badly.

Fair enough.

They can be hilarious however; I quite often hit my old persimmon driver 350 metres down wind which is a pain because i always drive over short par 4's and my short game is rubbish:twisted:

The first time I ever drank Powerthirst I was playing golf. Grabbed my driver and hit one out there 480m into an 8 club wind on the par 5 17th.

I hit my 21 degree hybrid 250, so a 240m 3wood is not a big deal.

Just for the record zig I am not saying you can not do that. There are guys that hit very long balls and considering most of them are avid golfers and avid golfers would tend towards joining golf forums, then it isn't that surprising that a lot of people on golf forums tend to claim large distances I guess
It’s just oft disputed.... anywho i hit my three wood about 200-210 if i get the draw i'm aiming for:)

Nope, don't think it was downwind, if it was it wasn't much.

He plays off 8, so he go's ok!!

I used to be able to carry 3 wood onto the 11th at Fox Hills, that's 213 from the plates from memory.

240 isn't huge but it's certainly out there. If I can carry driver that far I'd be happy, even happier if it stops in the middle of the golf course 8)

Was he a lefty? I saw a guy smashing his 3w a mile, to the point that driver would be useless on all but a couple of holes (even then, not really worth it to just be even closer to the creek).

Yeah, he's not a member though.

In that case, I passed you on Friday! I wasn't sure, and as I was playing host to 3 guests I thought it would be a bit rude to walk up and say "Hey, are you Iain?".

But yeah, that guy could sure mash it a long way!

Where about's?? I was wearing an ozgolf shirt too!!

His ball flights not even optimised either, so he could pick up another 20m comfortably.....

You were on the tee of the 6th, was on the 3rd. Nice shot by the way. I wish I had that dainty bit of draw off that tee. :-)

Yeah, his shot there had a bit of fade to it, but went a looooong way. Heaps of backspin though; it seemed to climb and climb and climb!

Okay here's one. Pacific Harbour (Qld). 2nd hole. Off the gold 300m plate. Callaway 15* Squareway. Straight drive, no wind to speak of, course neither wet nor dry. My ball, right of the 59m sprinkler head mark.
No richochets etc.
Generally I seem to hit it in that same rough distance off a tee but I really don't care. It isn't as long as the driver and it seems pretty straight.
But some of us mugs can wack those suckers that far. Shame it doesn't translate into my driver distance :smt093

That includes roll. I don't doubt that. Johnny Canuck hits further than that. My brother hits it about that far.

240 carry is a seperate issue.

zigwah

The 4th tee at barny from the black tees is a 240 carry to the front of the green.

First time i played the whole i hit driver and flew it to the back of the green and rolled down into the centre of the green off the slope a carry of 270

didn't quite catch the driver which was luck, but it was close and nutted the 3 wood.

Also hit 3 wood from 150 on 18 for pin high :)
