Ok, I tried:

uploading a pic from my files
the direct link, HTML and IMG links from Photobucket
3 different codes from Freeimagehosting
using different file types - jpeg, etc

Most come up as 'invalid files' and the ones that upload come up as bloody thumbnails. Am I that stupid? Is there an easy way to upload a full size image?

just

Click on the thumbnails and they come up as full size images.

If you use forum code from freeimagehosting.net or imageshack.us you don't need to use the insert pic button here, you just paste the code in the post.

Scottt
29th April 2009, 05:58 PM
and some image types aren't supported, they'll need to be JPEGs or TIFs or GIFs usually. You should be able to change the file type in Paint if need be.

I'm not having a go at you OMN, but why do people feel the need to insert full size images into a post, its unnecessary and irritating.

I'm not having a go at you OMN, but why do people feel the need to insert full size images into a post, its unnecessary and irritating.

On the contrary, I prefer them, provided they are a sensible size, because they are easier to view. To each their own, I guess.

Is it bandwidth or download limit/speed reasons that you don't like them?

just
29th April 2009, 06:16 PM
I don't have a problem with bandwidth or speed. But seriously, click on the thumbnails above and they come up as full size images, whats wrong with that, it gives the veiwer a choice. Inserting a full size images encourages adlo and henno to post endless threads of image replies.

just, no offense taken but just as you find full size photos irritating, I find thumbnails irritating. I want to be able to see a pic without having to hit on a link.

markTHEblake, well spotted. I was "posing" for that shot whilst waiting for the green to clear.

Scottt, I got there mate! Cheers for the assistance.

I guess that pose would appear unnatural to someone unfamiliar with a proper golf swing. ;)

I dont mind the full size images, as long as they dont stretch off the screen,

about 640*480 is a nice size for forum pages, its only when some dropkick posts a 1920*1440 pic on full that makes me get cranky

Very few of my posts are grumpy, you just choose to focus on those which you consider are grumpy. It was a legitimate point to make and my point was proved by the waste of bandwidth posted in this thread for no legitimate purpose.

How good is the view when you walk over the top of the dunes and get down to this tee?

Special course! But I'm only a little bias.

So far in this thread you are 100% strike rate for grumpy posts

Henno and I also post a lot without pictures, but you seem to focus on those posts which may contain a quality image or two.

Oddball (ADLO) (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000661/): Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
Moriarty (JUST (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0533891/)): Crap!

On the other hand, it was the most f**king massive pic I have ever seen

Ditto.

Adlo's 450*350 examples above are fine. But OldManNoodle's 800*600 on the previous page has made reading any text on that page a PITA. It now involves having to scroll left-and-right to get the longer sentences.

AndyP
30th April 2009, 06:18 AM
It is in the Forum Guidelines too. Although they don't count for much.

Scottt
30th April 2009, 06:21 AM
Isn't there a forum feature that can re-size pics to make them fit on a given palette?

AndyP
30th April 2009, 06:26 AM
Maybe. But that might only be for photos hosted by the forum.

This is what I was trying to get at, if everyone stuck to the forum guidelines I wouldn't have a problem with full size images, but they don't. Maybe I just need a larger screen.:)

There are a few bits of javascript wizardry floating around the web that achieve exactly that. It doesn't solve the bandwidth issue (although a 2meg image can still be 640x480) but it does solve the left-right scrolling problem.

Just you never cease to surprise me.

69er, the results of the poll are going to reveal one thing:

The forum guidelines are a good idea, and if everyone observed them, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

OMN,
I use Photobucket for all the images that I post here and don't have any problem. I use the IMG code, simply paste in the code and away you go.
