shavey
29th December 2004, 06:41 PM
Lakelands will be hosting the ABC Ladies Pro-am two days later so the course will be MINT!

Looking at an 11:00am tee-off so let's get in quick so I can lock some times away.

Cost will be $55.00 per person with electric cart.

After the response from the day at North Lakes, this is sure to be a cracker!

If you could once again email me at work steve.shave@ourclub.com so I can track things a little easier...

Entries close Friday 28th January and yes, I have amended the date :)

Hear from you soon...

I will organise the groups on the day (with help from Kevin - if that's okay?) and will ask the course super to trick the course up for us. We will be playing from the blue tees and the course is looking the best in my nine months here.

I have a few friends playing also so should be closer to 28.

We could put in $5.00 each for prizes and I could setup some NTP's and longest drives so please give me an idea of who is interested in that.

We also have our own club comp (probably stableford) if you wanted to play in that for $6.00 each...

Registration from 10:30am in the main foyer with tee-off from 11:30am

Nup, Lakelands is quite a tame course, although it doesnt look it. Thats why the punters love it so much, it looks difficult but they dont shoot a million, so they keep coming back. Have a good look at those fairways - you could land a jumbo on them.

IMHO its a very clever and subtle design. Albeit back left pins on 8 and 14 are going to add some bite, nice work Shaver. The ozgolfers will get sucked in by those.

Onewood, you wouldn't guess who won would you?

Start with "I " and ends with "ain". :)

On a personal note, played well on the front nine for 21 points.

Drove up to the 10th tee, took one look at all the water down the left, and said, "Thank God I'm hitting with my driver with a fade." Proceeded to spectacularly pull it that far left I nearly made it to dry land land on the other side.

Downhill from there...

Thanks Shavey for organising a great day. The course was in great shape, with the greens rolling true and smooth. :)

Gee, settle down Blakey.....  Shavey's got all the results, so no need to go into panic mode.

one bloke (not sure who) was already up for a big shot after not reaching the red markers on the first.
That was my brother in law, he had a bit of trouble until I told to stop playing his driver from the middle of his stance!!!!

Iain (co-tournament favourite with shavey) ripped the opening drive down there...and i mean DOWN THERE !
Thanks, only had my 54* wedge into the first after that drive....

I won the day with 39 points, not sure who finished 2nd? (Maybe Craig??) and Vegas finished 3rd. I had 19points on the front 20 on the back. Drove the ball really well, just ask Shavey!!!!! :P :P

My Brother in law finished with 33 points I think. Not sure what the old man and his mate finished up on??

Thanks for the day Shavey, course was in fantastic condition..... 8)

BrisVegas
5th February 2005, 10:57 PM
Well played Iain! 8) Hope you get an appropriate hcap reduction now... Although you were a couple of holes ahead of me I noticed you had hit some great drives. Were you playing in shavey's group? How did the big fella go? Thought he'd be a shoe-in favourite around his home track... You must have intimidated him! :P

Had a good day with caz and paul and coffshacker. Caz played very well for most of the round and was deadly around the greens. She as unlucky with a few putts around the front nine too, and deserved to finish on a better score.

Paul was Mr Consistency off the tee, only missing a couple of drives. At one stage he was striping it so well, he was hitting the centre mower cut line of the fairways at will. He pulled one over 2 cut lines at one stage, which raised an eyebrow, but that was about as bad as it got.

Craig (coffshacker) played pretty well for a (very) casual golfer off 11. He had 3 birdies and about 5 wipes for his 30 points. Craig claimed the shot of the day in our group with a 205 metre 5 wood to about 6 feet on one of the front 9 par 5's. Unfortunately he choked and missed the putt, but it was an awesome shot. The 290 metre drive he nudged out to set up that 2nd shot was pretty handy as well! Craig also picked up 2 NTP's for a nice little hall of Lakelands hats and Laddies. He very nearly claimed the NTP on the 14th too, but was a foot or so off the green despite being well inside the mark at the time.

I played pretty well and had 34 points (82 gross). Found plenty of fairways with Driver and had plenty of chances, but had a little trouble around the greens. Managed to lose 4 golf balls today, thankfully 3 of them were provisionals !! Had a triple on the 11th after pull-hoooking 5 wood OB. Also tripled the 17th when I needed 3 chip shots from pin high to get it on the green! Then the final insult was a drive down 18 that kicked left and went OB by a foot.... Easy par with second ball, including a slam dunk approach that was spat out of the hole, dammit.

It was a looong day, but a good day. Good company and saw some good golf. Cheers for organising Shavey. :D 8)

Big, big thank you to Shavey for organising the round and all the little extras. Great stuff!

As I mentioned to several people, I was not looking forward to playing golf, and would have pulled out if we were playing anywhere else. That said, it was an absolutely fantastic day and I really enjoyed it.

My playing partner must have had something to do with my enjoyment, so thanks to Duncan. We were playing as a two at the back of a field, and I didn't even take much notice of it being a long round.

We were happy to be at the back of the field after our first T-shots. Absolute shockers. Don't think we would have drove a total of 100m between us.
We both played some pretty crappy golf throughout the day, with some great shots thrown in. Regardless, I still had plenty of fun.

FWIW I had 28 points, and drunken had 27 points.

Some 1st Tee photos, course shots, and vids of a few previously unseen on OZgolf swings to come.

Thanks again, Shavey.

Apologies to Briz, Coffs & Caznpaul for hitting up on the 12th. My 4wood out of the bushes went twice as far as the drive
I actually did pass on that you didn't pass on an apology.

Vegas told me that it only rolled up on them, and looked like it might be a chance to go in the hole. Easy par though. :P

First I must say thanks to Shavey for a great day well organised :smt023 , Clay my mate enjoy it immensely I think he will be coming to a few more (I think he would give Iain a run for money the driving stakes), To Dave the burglar who didn't use a driver all day (3 iron of the tee all round) in fact the longest club all day was a 3 iron and ended up with 38pts on the 14th he hit it to about 6' from the hole, (to bad he wasn't in the comp he would have cleaned up) 22 h'cap my arse, very nice guy hope to play with him next time I'm on the Gold Coast.
Even though I ended up with the NAGA award (25pts) #-o I had a great day , very nice to play of fairways (not that I hit many, spent most of my day in the bunkers) in such good nick it was like hitting of carpet , and the greens where very true. IMO the course is very forgiving if you miss it in the right places very open and wide fairway with very little undulations well placed bunkers and I should know I hit a few ,and the ruff was easy to play out of , over all a very nice course a bargain at $55 can't wait for the next "Shavey Day" keep them coming mate. \:D/

Good peoples (and not so good), please find some photos and movies of the splendid Lakelands OZgolf day at the following link:

Lakelands Fun, Fun, Fun (http://andrewpholden.tripod.com/)

I haven't got the site all nice and pretty or anything, but at least it's somewhere I can store this stuff.

The links work okay don't they?
I have added a pic of the 8th green, where Shavey got a smelly pin position, just for us.

Anywho, where's Shavey with those results? Iain wants his name up on that honour board again ASAP.

Geez, i know that this Andrew Holden bloke has bursts of form, but you have to say this Iain bloke has the Schwartz when it comes to the big tournaments.

Note that my two recent "big wins" at Ocean Shores and Toowoomba, were when Iain wasn't present.
When The Unit turns up, it becomes a race for second place. ;)

Shavey, you forgot to mention the pins for the day. Thanks for organising the prizes BTW.

6th NTP: CoffsHacker (captured on video)
8th approach: ????? (Can't remember)

8th approach was CoffsHacker as well.

Thank goodness unit's given you a headstart on the leaderboard race Andy. He only needs to turn out for a few more "big wins" and he'll be ozgolf champ again..

Shavey - what scores did your other guests have ? Are we including them in the scoring, in case any of them decide to join ozgolf?

I had a feeling that it was. Marker wasn't even on the same tier.

That's for Player of the Year. If he decides to play the Champs, he's a shoe-in.

Who ever said the golf swing had to look "pretty"...? You hit the ball VERY solidly when you catch them square. You hit a few drives on Sat that were 275m+ which is not to be sniffed at.

One of these days the Coffs Harbour/Bonville trip will get off the ground and you can host us all in your home town. 8)

Mate, I tried to find golfers worse than me, but they were all in the nursing home drooling into their liquefied meat and 3 veg.
