Now that the drought is over I'm looking to bring my lawn back up to scratch. So I'm looking to purchase a Cylinder mower in good nick.

Any pointers?

Long drive to Brisbane

Don't quite need that one.

Check out the local mower shops, they're bound to have some older Scott Bonnar cylinder mowers there.

We're not out of drought yet ..... the dams are just under 60%

the drought lives strong down these parts we dont even look like getting any decent rain. My last two rounds of golf have been played on bare paddocks with sand and flags sticking out, one guy told me on sunday that this is the future.....I sure hope not:(

It was an awesome mower ..... B&S motors are very reliable.

$750 is a ridiculous starting price though !!!

Do your bit for the unemployment rate and pay some nuffy $10 to mow it for you.

jarro - you have Qld Blue Couch don't you? I've got blue in my backyard and it's awesome stuff. The blue couch seems to just dominate the weeds, as long as you keep it nice and short. Our developer put Wintergreen Couch in our front yard and footpath and I gotta say it's just rubbish. I put down really good sandy loam underlay and have sprayed it with Kleen Lawn etc etc, but it's just riddled with crap. It just doesnt seem to have the vigour of the blue, nor the suppression of weeds. When we get around to landscaping our front yard, I'm gonna rip it up and re-do it in blue couch and look at getting a cylinder mower for the front patch.

Good idea Dion, nothing worse than having crappy turf in your front yard (where everyone can see it)

Blue couch is a good grass to use a cylinder mower on, it always looks great. There are other more hardy grasses you can get too but i'm not sure about budget/etc.

Just remember with regards to weeds in your lawn, your yard is only as good as your neighbours ..... if they have a shitload of weeds in theirs, chances are you'll get plenty in yours too :smt093

Oh, and i no longer have any Blue couch in my yard ..... it's all SirWalter now ...... no more cylinder mowing :(

spot on. I was chatting to the old bloke across the road from me and he's into his blue couch bigtime. He was going off about the rental next door to him full of weeds and shit, that keeps infecting his lawn. Once your lawn gets invaded by rubbish grasses, you either have to spend months spot-killing it with roundup or completely re-lay it. The selective weeders wont normally help clear out feral grasses.

Correct, never seen it this dry before.

Even this time last year my lawn had started to come back, its just a pile of dust now. Rain forecast today, although I don't think we will get much
