Current rankings inc. number of posts are : -

Your post count means you have a life! 1
Your post count means you need a life! 100
You need to get a life! 250
You seriously need to get a LIFE! 500

I am limited to word counts otherwise I would have become more creative :P

I might actually have to tone down my online activities now anyway, i'm back at work

as for the categories, i think we need to "borrow" some ideas from the other joint .... we might get users here who only post every so often ....

.. so lets give them a chance to jump up the rankings a bit quicker 8)

After a year, I thought I should get this thread back on topic. Especially now that I have "The Power". (Read rest of thread to understand the irony of that)

Would you like to see a change to the ranking system that we currently have in place (see poll added)?

Your post count means you have a life! 1
Your post count means you need a life! 100
You need to get a life! 250
You seriously need to get a LIFE! 500
I think the forum is a little beyond the ranking system above, so let's hear some suggestions.

Here are some old topics from the "other" forum, who, by the way, did actually get around to changing theirs (at least the posting limits anyway).

http://www.iseekgolf.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6019

http://www.iseekgolf.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4376

I occasionally do some reading of a footy forum that has a very extensive ranking system, using identities of the football club . The rankings go from the players who contributed very little to the club, to the absolute legends. They seem to have about 30 different ranks. The more posts the greater the separation between ranks.
Seems like a good idea.

Here's a suggestion to get us started. Rankings based on the number of majors golf players have won:
Most Majors
Jack Nicklaus 18
Walter Hagen 11
Ben Hogan 9
Gary Player 9
Tom Watson 8
Tiger Woods 8
Bobby Jones 7
Arnold Palmer 7
Gene Sarazen 7
Sam Snead 7
Harry Vardon 7
Nick Faldo 6
Lee Trevino 6
Seve Ballesteros 5
James Braid 5
Byron Nelson 5
J.H. Taylor 5
Peter Thomson 5
Willie Anderson Jr. 4
Jim Barnes 4
Ray Floyd 4
Bobby Locke 4
Tom Morris Jr. 4
Tom Morris Sr. 4
Willie Park Sr. 4
(Where's Greg Norman? ;) )

Perhaps rankings of golf courses? (Aus or international)
Let's hear some ideas, and if we want to change it, I'll run another poll for us to make a decision on what ranking system we want.

I hate to agree with you  , so someone else must have thought of the idea :P , the current ratings are boring and harsh, almost anything would be better, HOWEVER..........

Based on your summation, Jarro would be attaining legend status. Unless you can come up with something that relates to quality :P it is too subjective.

Keep up the good work.

There can always be an exception to the rule.
We'll just give him a special rank of moderator, so the ranking system won't apply to him then. 8)

Only administators are able to give members special rankings that are not related to post count.
Most of the special rankings that members have were given by Jaster last year.
To give 100+ special rankings to all the posting members may be a little bit over the top.

Using golfers names will be meaningless to most people, who can tell off the top of their head who is higher, Hagen or Faldo?

would be easier to use something like

Beginner
Hacker
Single Figures
Scratch Marker
Club Pro
Touring Pro
World Class Pro
I am Tiger Woods

Here's one along the same lines as Blakey's:

Plays occasionally with ex-hire set.
Plays socially on a regular basis.

Fanatic club-member who plays rain, hail or shine.
Club Champion.
Apprentice Pro.
Teaching Pro.
Club Pro.
Touring Pro (Secondary Tour)
Touring Pro (APGA)
Touring Pro (European Tour)
Touring Pro (PGA)
Order of Merit winner.

They become like a mini .sig file.

As long as users follow the same guidelines that govern avatars and sigs why would these be any different?

As far as I can tell, it can't be done with this version.
Perhaps there is an add-on (or MOD as those of us in the php admin business call it  ) that supplies this functionality.

I've already seen them during my own searchs, and can't do anything about them. It's outside the scope of an administrator.
Plus, the quick reply isn't for this version.

For customisable ranks, did you only look at phpbb.com or look at the other phpbb hack sites?

I kept it close, because once you reach a certain number of posts, it sorta becomes irrelevant, and the member probably has a customised rank anyway.

Unless there is negative feedback on Blakey's numbers, I will implement it.

Beyond Multiple Major Winner, why don't we have "Gene Sarazen" - "Member of the Golden Bear Club" - "Tiger Woods" etc.

I mean, "Golfing Immortal" is a little gay ;)

I finally got around to sticking my head in this thread.

I have looked in the past at the isg top posters stats. For quite a while I was still in the top 10; I think until some time this year. Not bad considering I haven't posted there since march or april last year.

I like the way this thread is heading. Time to jaz things up here a bit.

I dunno - i think the rampant use of aliases is quite humourous. Really keeps you guessing as to who is actually posting what.

The rank field was limited for text size, so I had to change a couple of the ranks.
Also added a couple more, so there is less of a gap between some of them.
Changed the last one too. Happy with that?

Are you suggesting that I delete most of the customised rankings? FG seemed pretty attached to hers.

markTHEblake

the customised rankings are fun, it gives the website some character but with some of them -

some people might think the individual is being big headed, not realising the rank wasnt voluntary

some people might be offended by the rank they were given, but dont wan to say anything.

other people are offended that they didnt get a customised ranking

There is a MOD somewhere that allows for two rankings per user. The Global one, and another customisable by the member - might be a good idea to check it out.

I'll give you to the end of the week. Its the 2 sets of rules that bother me.

after seeing how the new rankings are coming out, nearly all of us regulars are the same. and too many rankings are at the bottom of the list, of people we hardly know

perhaps it would be more appropriate to be something like

0
20
50
100
500
then in 500 increments.

I always intended to change it at the end of the week, unless........ :-k ......No, I'm no chance, I'll change it on Saturday morning at the latest. ;)

If that's the case then we will be constantly shifting the rankings to keep up with the "regulars".
Do you really think that when you get to 2000+ posts, that you should be regularly changing rankings?

Sorry mtb, only just saw your post about this.

When clikchic updated the forum she looked for many mods etc to try but there didn't seem to be many for this version at the time. It was a fairly new version at the time.

She did try many of the older version mods including some quick reply mods, but none of them worked. Obviosly she hasn't tried any recently, but anything interesting you find let us or andy know - then andy will probably take a look into it (you know what we're like  ).
