why is there no advertising on this site?

i'm sure golf companies/courses etc would be interested, not sure on the traffic volume but it may help cover costs

We don't want it, not that we haven't been asked. With advertising comes responsibility to those companies and we couldn't be bothered.

Our costs have been covered pretty well so far anyway.

It was such a success for another Aussie golf forum......... :smt078

I don't think it's that much responsibilty, a small banner on the side won't make much difference and pay for the costs

We don't want to be accountable to anyone. Our members don't mind giving a few bucks here and there to keep the site running, and I don't see that changing. The only reason we would need money is to pay me.

Opening the forum to advertising cheapens it IMO.

Sounds to me that you're proposing a solution to a problem that doesn't appear to exist. :)

I think we're getting pretty good value for money as it is. ;)

Yep, bring on the advertising. And while you're at it, get rid of the PM's here as well.

It comes up every now and then - AP and I chat about it once in a while. Just one less hassle to deal with. No responsibility to anyone else.

When we started I just paid for it myself. But the donation idea came up and it covers our costs. Some people drop some through when they can, some have subscriptions. Even the shirts and hats were done at cost price. Ozgolf was only ever about a place to chat, not make money.

I think Dwayne just wants to see some Titleist banners on here so he doesn't have to go over to Redtube to stroke one out

mate don't even know what Redtube is. I'll have a look now that you have mentioned it. I just thought it may cover costs other than donations.

For a journo, Henno, that's show-off maths

My boss once asked me "if I worked 21 hours mid week and 14 on the weekend, how many did I do for the wek?"

You know, that's the first thing the Dean of the School of Journalism said to us in the first class: "Most of you are probably here because your school guidance counsellor told you journalism would be a good career because you had a flair for english, but were hopeless at maths."

Needless to say, the class of 220 was closer to 50 by the time I graduated.

Well, the ones I knew all changed degrees. Most of them went into Film and TV to be behind the camera after realising they hate being in front of it.

But yeah, not too many made it the full 3 years.
