A question to yo "locals". We plan to play golf at Emerald Lakes, go to the Ladies Masters and take Kate to Seaworld. So where do you think the best spot for us to stay?? I've been looking at Broadbeach. What do you think?

cazandpaul
8th January 2005, 09:58 AM
Broadbeach is central to everything and has a range of accomodation choices from Jupiters down.

Just cut a pretty good deal with the manager for the day/nighter.

$30 including cart (same price if you want to walk).

I also booked another couple of groups at the end so we now have 5 groups. Easier to cancel them if we don't get them filled.

Just realised that there is a trial NRL game (Roosters v Panthers, 7pm Kickoff) on across the road at Cararra Stadium that evening. Maybe we bolt across the road and catch the second half after the golf game....

Ah don't be so sure that they'll win the prize. My friend Kate is a bandit like you wouldn't believe. Still playing off 35!!!!!!!!!!! and should be off at least 10 less. Trust me - she protects that handicap of hers very nicely thank you.

Will we get 18 holes in before dark.......what time is sunset up your way this time of the year?

FG..you are a silly thing.
We are playing the back nine under lights.

Maybe we can share a cart together. When you get out to holes 15 and 16 it gets pretty dark off the fairway. I might find myself deep in the bushes out there.

Alabaster Dr, Carrara. Opposite Carrara Stadium.

From the North on Pacific Highway take the Nerang-Broadbeach road exit, No 71. This exit is also has the Nerang Train Station signs.

Travel east for 3.2kms. Emerald Lakes is right there in front of your nose on the right hand side. It has one of those brown tourists signs to guide you towards the entrance.

You will drive past a driving range and par 3 course on your right hand side - it aint emerald lakes but not far to go.

If your coming from the beach, Head west along Nerang Broadbeach rd, its 300 metres past the crossroad undergoing roadworks.

If anyone coming from the Pacific Highway South, let me know, its confusing around exit 71.

When you want to play in an Ozgolf day, Add your name to the timesheet aka above list if you want to play - by copying and reposting the list in a new message.

its all Onewoods fault, he is the grandfather here and he should be looking after all the new guys.

Have a go day nighter guys I wish I could have come down for it ,but I've been installing a ducted air cond in the house to air condition the whole house and what a pain in the bum that job is. It is taking longer than I thought ,It is wrong time of the year eg 30* out side and about 130* in the roof space. Hopefully I'll be finished today.
Anyhow have go round

There is a bit more than pride at stake today.

If Eags or Onewood wins today, they will be within $1000 of 1st place in POTY.
If Brisvegas wins, he will be No 1.

Scores are in. we dont have an outright winner, but you would have to say that with Golfer69's handicap (crappy form) , he would have to win on a countback, fairs fair.

The POTY favourites all tanked - cant handle the pressure.

Gael played so bad she lost a ball in the ballwasher.

Onewood was hitting his driver straighter than his putts, had 3 putts from 6 foot and belted the ball off the green into the bushes. Lucky he did as the 4th putt was so long I doubt he would have got that either.

Golfer69 had 4 consecutive 3 pointers to start with, but tanked on the back 9. cant handle the pressure.

Iain spent more time on his hairdo than he did on preparing himself for golf today.

and apparently I take 11 seconds to hit a golf ball - is that bad?

Lots of pics, I'll post em another day, gotta get up at 5am.

Good 'first word' post. Look forward to the other reports (reponses?).

Blakey - does this mean you were the bloke in the clubhouse to say "Guys, gotta run....... seriously" so you could get back to the safety of your PC and be the first to post?

This is great coming from someone who had 20 front and 16 on the back :D No sour grapes that the other member got the better score  :D

Guys, What a fun night.... Thanks to Unit and Peter_rs_644... was fun guys....

Hmmm... what crap golf did we get up to... hmmm can someone please querie Peter's Handicap..... Bloomin' 24 (what crap) just about out drove me 3 times... Had 16pts on the front and 21 on the back scored an 8 a 1 I reckon he tanked a few just so that he looked like he played to his handicap.

Iain...... mate a case of the fades had us searchin in the crap, geez you pulled off some beautiul recoveries though, along with some elegant garden maintainence....Brilliant ! and I loved the "3 a 4" chip in..

To wrap up my groups amazing round... I played OK from tee to fairway... that's about it in a nut shell.. Apologiesto those I hit up on and well done to G69, Scotty and Peter....

Cheers

Thanks for organising this event Blakey & 69. It was good to meet a couple of new people. That flowergirl is a good sort. I can see why damo and her spent so much time in the trees once it got dark.

Billy Mayfair, I mean golfer69, played pretty well for about 12 holes, but fell off the rails around the back. He talks constantly on the golf course, so eventually ran out of positive things to say about himself. By the back nine, he'd started sledging himself and was seriously lacking in heart. Poor effort. The way he chipped and putted, he should have had at least 40 points, but well done on beating the hcap with 37.

For my part, I was just outsmarted, outplayed and outlasted by the old bugger I was sharing a cart with. The heckling on the first tee didn't help. Fair enough, I did it two OOB straight up... Thought my day was done until we figured it was a stableford. I still managed 3-4 washes and lost every decent golf ball in my bag. Not from the darkness, but from a wicked bout of pull-hooking. I probably sould go fix it at the range, but who could be bothered. No time, not much interest lately.

The company was exellent and the banter between moocow, 69 and "Irene" (Sorry Reenie) was priceless. 8)

It was fun have to do it again some time at that price. nice to meet you guys. Keza its now 0-2 "bring it on" :D

Ps I backed up with a net 72 today at virginia, could not hit the broad side of a barn.

No, in fact first to leave was Vegas, followed by G69 with a woman under each arm. I believe he was headed off to a sleazy Broadbeach motel. I was actually last to leave.

As I am a gentleman I will not comment further on this except to apologise for lagging behind once it got dark - we 'ran out of petrol' is my excuse - great to play with Flowergirl - she is a gem ! [she promised she would be gentle with me and she was]

To my other playing partners - Dion thanks for the St Andrews tips - will need them next year - and loved seeing you hit that 'old tech' TM 5 wood !!

As for 69 - he gave me a bit of stick out there , but I think he was just jealous !! - well done Richard - you showed us the way the course should be played - you fit in well there as you are a bit of a yob yourself !

Great to catch up with some familiar faces - and meet Wavey finally !

How about Ozgolf champs at Maryborough GC ??

Golfer69 and the UNIT, check out that fantastic hairstyle (and colour), he spends ages getting it all spiffed up for golf. Unit's hair is not bad as well.

Unfortunately none of my night golf photos turned out, unless you like pictures of black. Seems that the flash is not synched with shutter speed, i'll have to troubleshoot this.
