Currently in the US visiting some nice golf courses. In Los Angeles at the moment before we drive north to Monterey to visit Cypress Point and Pebble Beach.

A couple of photos so far:

Riviera CC, Los Angeles. Thomas 1926. They are hosting the Northern Trust Open next week.

This is the 10th, regarded as one of the best short par 4's anywhere.

The 10th green at the narrowest point is 9 paces across.

The one and only Cypress Point. The photos may be large, but it's Cypress. We were fortunate and had the course to ourselves for the most part of the day.

Johnny, your ball markers are in hand. We hit the pro shop hard when finished on the course with our purchases.

Thanks for those photos. I can't think of a course I would like to play more than Cypress. Looks amazing.

Did you go at the green on 16?

Having now played the course, I think you'd get a lot out of reading The Match.

How did you get on?

Years ago I was going to San Fran for work. Months in advance I sent a request to C.P. that included;

A letter of introduction from my club (Royal Canberra),
A " " from the President of the NSWGA who I had played a couple of matches both against and for,
A letter from by boss (I was flying for the VIP flight with the pollies including the PM),
A copy of my current handicap (1) and a list of my minor golfing achievements, and
A copy of my itinerary showing availability to play any time during an 8 day period!

Hell, the only thing I didn't send was a $1000 bribe.

I waited with baited breath for my reply. Approx, 2 weeks later it turned up nicely embossed with C.P logo. The reply was brief;

"Dear Mr xxxxx,
Thank you for your letter dated xxxxx. Please be advised that C.P. does not have or encourage visitors to our course. We hope you enjoy your trip.

Yours Sincerely,
xxxx (Manager)"

Great!!!!

The Pilot

You did well to get a letter back, most people don't.

Bruce, from our course, is the head greenskeeper. The company that employ's him has sent him and others over for a tour of top US courses. Nice job perks. They are apparently "inside the ropes" this weekend as well.

Good on him, he's been through a lot with Kennedy closing and re-opening. It's nice to him rewarded for his loyalty.

Those private clubs like the church.
