I had a mate of mine convince me that they were the greatest band ever. He gave me a tape of theirs (ages ago) and I was very disappointed.

I did throw that in just for you:mrgreen:.

In fairness, I haven't heard much of theirs and there are 100 bands I hate more, such as MISSY HIGGINS!

They are not death metal. It is an entirely different thing. They have so very good stuff, although they are the only band of their nature that I ever have, or ever will listen to. Not my normal cup of tea, but still good.

You they think he is all talk and doesn't actually do anything? Because nothing could be further from the truth.Thats all bullshit mate..

I have a very good mate who runs the touring company for these "big" bands that come out here, he is also part of a very big charity in Aus. There was an issue with the U2 tour shirts and my mate asked to have them for the charity because U2 couldn't sell him. He was told no by Bono personally... (The shirts were destroyed) The guy is a wanker!

My list:

• Anything played on radio stations like Nova etc
• Any hip hop
• That bullshit crazy frog type stuff they come up with now
• Nickelback / Hillsong Rock crap they have these days

Wow. Tough crowd.

What have you guys done for charity?Mate I have done plenty for charity.. I donate time and money to a homeless shelter here in Melbourne, and do whatever I can elsewhere, but thats OK unlike Bono I don't need to "float my own boat".

The situation I told you about wasn't "just some guy" as I said he is a high flyer in a very very well respected charity here in Australia as Damoocow has suggested giving the shirts to this charity was not something he wanted to do so he would rather see them destroyed!

I don't mean they need to stay in a $5K a night palace, but they do need to be removed from common folk. I am serious about that.

Good music too....

What you appear to be suggesting is that he should starve to death so he can be like his peeps. What a load of shite. The people who make the decisions circulate in high places. He has access to those high places and uses that for good.

Why then on their last Australian tour did Bono and the rest of the U2 tools stay at the Palazzo Versace...

It is a good point Damo, and its often a bitter pill to swallow. However for one I personally see no reason why anyone should not be able to enjoy the fruits of their success. If doing what they do results in millions being generated to help those who cant help themselves, then I am all for it.

Bono would be wasting his life if he went to africa and lived with the homeless, far better that he keep doing what he does, and raise millions to support the nobodies like you and me who might choose one day to give it all away and build a school and a church in Somalia :-)

p.s. yeah the shirts story is kinda sad though.

but thats OK unlike Bono I don't need to "float my own boat".

peoples charitable work is something to be commended for when seen, but if anyone broadcasts what they do, they are floating their own boat.

Nick Cave. So deep.
AC/DC. I worked in a put with a jukebox for over 5 years. If I ever hear you shook me all night long again I will claw my own eyes out
Foo Fighters. Pop songs, made into hard rockers by the addition of four bars of shouting in the middle
Coldplay. Massively overrated by many people, including themselves.

I could make a hefty list of genres too - any sort of rap with very few exceptions, heavy metal and anything heavier, emo music, any song with the word 'featuring' in the artist credit, the rubbish they refer to as RnB these days, starlets, boy bands, bogan rawk, dreamy atmospheric crap that's in fashion these days, 30 year old bands who won't stop touring, especially the Rolling Stones from 1980 onwards, electronica, trance, euro-pop, country and western, classical music, prog rock, and every song that was ever played on the jukebox of my Dad's pub.

Modern artists first.

Eminem
The Script
Snow Patrol
Jack Johnson

Older artists list:

Dr Hook
Brotherhood of Man
Smokie
Leo Sayer

I'm glad AndyP resurrected this thread, because it is an issue I've given some thought to in recent times. When I got the opportunity to 'borrow' a large quantity of music from other collections, I had to think about what I wanted to keep, and what I wanted to reject. I have actually found, to my surprise, that I quite enjoy listening to some stuff that I used to hate way back when it was current. I used to detest light as a feather pop music by people like Abba, Wham and the Bee Gees. But that stuff has stood the test of time. New generations of music listeners seem to connect with those artists, while much 'deeper' music from that time seems very dated. Pink Floyd has also stood the test of time, but contemporaries like Yes, King Crimson and the slightly later Alan Parsons project have completely fallen out of fashion.

I've actually become a fan of modern pop music. I don't really understand why I like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna, while still enjoying the blues and things like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, but that is the reality of my music listening profile.

Having said all of that, music listening is a very personal thing, so I don't judge anybody else for their taste in music. Except people who like James Blunt. If it was a bottom five he'd be next.
