I haven't played there before, and I'm looking forward to this big time. 8)

So what should I be expecting from this course?
I know the secret society played it recently.

I believe I played once in there but I can't be sure... that was the day I go to golf day purely for NOT attending work instead....

Driving cart was fun :D

What a great deal! Played there once, loved it.

I want to hear any stories of disgrace and shame from the Par 3 17th. Quality golf hole.

What to expect AP? It's a Links-style course, and if you use the GPS accurately you should be able to kill it. Very handy addition to the game.

We had a bit of a double booking happening here fella's.
I have 2 groups booked at Riverlakes in a single stab on the same day at 7:48 and 7:54 (cost $21).

If anyone doesn't want to shell out the dough for Hopey, or don't want the drive you can use these if you like.

I will not cancel them until next week.
Just about enough time for both.

Link style... is it == a lot of long grass in the rough and if it's in the rough, don't bother to find it and just grap another one from the bag?

A-Lo - not a lot of tree-lined fairways (unless you are very wayward), the fairways aren't that flat, plenty of rolls and undulations, and pot-bunkers.

Use the GPS, and know your distances with clubs. When i played there the greens were very firm, so you would use 1 club less and run it up to the green.

I'd love to play...But I start my new job next week & I'm not sure if I'll be working or not.

If we get enough for another group & there's space I'll hopefully be in.

Geez Fish you are going to pay for it when JJJ sees this.
How dare you refer to a reclaimed Golf Coast swamp as "links"...regardless of what the promotional brochures say.

It's a treeless swamp ! (with pot bunkers)

Bring it on... :smt014 :smt015

I bet you have a ball in ambroses. Hitting off last from the red tees... Let it fly!!!

Just spoke to Pete. He's gonna book the extra tee time. Have to cap it at 16 players due to the number of rounds he has at that rate...

Based on past ozgolf days, I reckon we need about 20 people interested to get 16 to actually turn up on the day!

So, if anyone else is interested, put your name down....

Macca - I wouldn't worry about missing out too much - this lot will drop like flies!

5. BrisVegas - disappears after Brookwater residents meeting to oppose fast food franchise on golf course - bucket hat found next to slab for KFC on 17th tee

6. golfer69 - falls in love with 4 yo gelding from Hong Kong - contracts bird flu - buried with full ozgolf honours in grape coffin

7. Iain - suffers serious concussion after slipping on pool of vomit in carriage three - resulting brain injury sees him sell all golf equipment and proclaim himself to be the new WWF champion - Unit of Terror

8. AndyP - due to fervent desire to beat Jarro's post count , AP withdraws from event and posts furiously about nothing much in particular - perfects the one word response he has been learning from the 'master'

9. AndyHo - finally reaches 18 handicap and to protect it decides to never play again - golf equipment manufacturers hold a day of mourning - shares in Taylor Made drop $53.88 each

10. jarro - forgets to attend due to bulk delivery of video nasties from Budapest- currently trying to get through customs with what looks like a large cucumber strapped to inner thigh.

11. Eags - urgent call to hospital to administer bulk enemas to Miss Gold Coast bikini girl entrants - wears his new raincoat for protection.

14. drunken - suffers world first case of mobile phone explosion - trying to send too many SMS's at once sees phone explode from severe malfunction - first entrant in ozgolf blind order of merit

16. shavey - banned from all ozgolf events after his super form at Northlakes - Collarway dodgy 3 wood deemed against the spirit of the game by the R and A.

Hello All,

This is you host speaking, I have had a little trouble with the computer and this is the first chance I have had to post.

Good to hear you are all keen and I can't wait to finally meet you all. Should be a good day if the rain holds off.

An update on the list, my brothers have pulled the pin so we are down to 11 confirmed and 2 in pencil, I have my doubts that "rok" will be able to make it.

I would like to keep the field at 12 so if we could get final confirmation asap that would be great. We can finalise the groups after this.

As far as the comp goes, I believe that it is open to members guests that have AGU handicaps. You guys should technically be my guests for the day so should be eligible, I will confirm on the day. Normal comp fee is only $5.

I am using my corporate vouchers so just give the cash to me on the day, no need to pay anything at the pro shop.

My membership includes use of range balls, I need to sign these off. I will try and get there at around 11.30am. I will be the ugly one with the ping carry bag for those who don't know me.

Again, look forward to seeing you there, post if you have any questions.

Just so we're clear... rok and roc are different people. Not even sure if rok has joined ozgolf yet, but he's stoney's cousin and was a regular on ISG. rok was his username on ISG.

stoney - has Paul (rok) advised he's not coming ??? Or, did someone else bail out? I thought we only had 3 groups still...

roc - It'd be great to meet you, and hopefully stoney can get you a game. I'm just a bit confused as to how we can get 13 players off in 3 groups.

OK Guys we are all set for tomorrow. :D

I have just confirmed the booking, when you get to the bag drop advise them you are under the booking for Peter Stone. (12.44, 12.52 & 1.00)

As previously advised I will endeavour to be there at around 11.30 but with three kids to fend off before I leave there is every chance that I will not be there until 12ish. Unfortunately you can't get the free range balls until I get there.

We will see how we go with the Comp, otherwise I am keen for the Back tees. That course is way to short off the whites.

Not exaclty the preparation I was hoping for before a round at Hope Island.

Only 4 hours sleep after spending 3 hours last night cleaning up the mess that the Foxtel man caused. The idiot forgot to replace the 4 roof tiles he removed to run the cable down the wall. :smt021

Of course the first I knew of this was when the missus turned the TV off last night and heard water dripping on the ceiling and running down the walls. It had already been raining for 45 minutes before that.

Had to climb onto the roff in the p!ss!ing down rain to replace them then spent the next three hours crawling through the roof mopping up the mess.

Anyway, still looking forward to this afternoon. Just let me drive the cart and prod me if I fall asleep. :smt015

Good day for it. Great course in very good condition. Surprised that the back tees werent as punishing as expected. Only the par 3's posed some problems.

I've had 83 for 31 points. I'm happy with that. I hit the ball really solidly, just struggled with the greenside chipping. The domed greens and shaved surrounds made for some tough little shots. 11 fairways, 6 greens and 31 putts.

Thankfully the 17th was only playing 195-ish. Great hole. Happy wth bogey there! I hear ryan senecio has had a tap-in birdie there.. That man must have a heck of a touch with the 3 wood!

golfer69's played a reasonable round for 29 points, probably would have goe better but got distracted by arkitekcha issues and insurance considerations.

Has the last group come in yet? I'll wait until the rules offical signs in, but there must be some sort of penalty for a 5 hour round.... :?

Front Nine
1 double bogey, 8 pars - 38

Back Nine
2 birdies, 6 brain farts - 48

And I was happy with that. I still don't think I hit the ball that bad on the back nine. I just managed to keep my bad shots out of trouble on the front and made a few more putts.

Highlight, birdie on 17. 195m into the wind, hit 3-wood nice and high, 8 foot downhill just outside the right lip, sweet as. :D :D

I only know I have 20 points but I have no idea on the gross or net stroke. AndyP might know.

I was 4 points short to tie with AndyP. Darn! ;)

Me and AndyP was tie on 1st 9 back to back. Up to hole 14 I had a 2 point lead or something after a great up and down par. :D Unfortunately the sunscreen on my face still melting and get into my eyes. My eyes was full of tears and have a running nose  From there I cannot concertrate anymore and keep hitting thin with short irons or pulled couple my tee shots.

Highlight?? Well... not really a highlight... On 18 I am at 20 points and AndyP is 24 and I need a eagle to tie him. I was trying smack it far so I put a very fast swing but I... sigh... pulled it again. Fortunately it didn't went into the water so it allows me to pitch it back on fairway.... still 270 meters short thu.... so I pull out the driver and trying to hit it off the deck. 8-[ :smt016  jarro look at me and his face was like "com'on what the hack are you thinking" But I just thought "yeah what the hell"... couple of practise swing, go for it.... manage to airborne with a low flyer but hooked it :smt016  The rest is history.

GREAT COMPANY THU!!! My group is full of great people (of course) and jarro just taught me the longest "adjective" I ever heard since I came to Aus

Wasn't good for the golf game either. As soon as we fell behind, I started to rush my shots a bit and fell in a heap, after a really good start. Didn't really recover. :( Finished off OK.

Drove well, putted great. Everything in between was very ordinary.
Only one 3 putt for the day, on the 17th, from two metres to make a great up & down. #-o

I had a 98, for 24 points. (Passed the 17pt milestone on the 14th ;) )
Sorry, I don't have A-Lo's gross score, but I would assume that the money list is going on stableford points.

rok and stoney both had NCR. stoney was probably mid-80's. Had a few too many washes early on. rok had a similar score, but struggled with a wayward driver. He hit it a hell of a long way, but found the left & right rough most of the time. To be expected I guess, he hadn't played since September.

Don't know how to host them on my Optus site though. I probably need to write some HTML code or something. :?

dont worry about hosting the files as such. Just FTP them and post the direct links. Our browsers will support playback of the file as long as you show the full URL.

If you mean parallel at the top of the backswing, don't worry about it. If mine gets to parallel then I've swung too far (it usually gets way past parallel). One of the things I've seen with jasters swing is how far he hits it yet even with his driver he dosen't seem to get close to parallel.

Got them. Just downloaded them rather than try and play them (which is probably what was needed anyway).

...in saying that, just looked at the J man.
Trying to work out what aspect is "girlier"....the Karrie Webb pause or the fact he's slapping an IRON up the first.

pausing is cool.

It just gives me more time to harness my awesome power, then unleash it when i feel the time is right.

I've been in a trance watching my swing. Still trying to work out what the hell is going on with my left foot. There is less movement in some of the dances on Strictly Ballroom.
I've just watched it a few times in slow-motion. It's like watching a lava lamp.

Still trying to work out what the hell is going on with my left foot.

I am looking at that one frame by frame. Seems that you are actually lifting that left heel to replace it in a different spot - rather than it being forced up then down again (by weight transfer)

Its just a hunch but i think your subsconsciously compensating for your way open stance.

and you have great lower body action, dont worry about the wild movements at the end, the ball is already gone. Pretty good action for a for a cripple

Jarro

I guess that makes sense.....with all that "awesome power"...you only need an iron off the tee.
Incidentally, how far did that one go.....170 ?????

Hi Keza,

I thought I fixed this problem long ago.... but it comes back again.

The cause of tippy toe is because I am trying to hard, by overly active my upper body.

And the result, pull shot, cold top or bad toe hit ;)

I know if I slow it down (with good rythm) a little and it can be solved.

I think I need a way to strengthen my bottom part of the body as well as its flexibility (legs, hips) in the future so I will be able to turn my upper torso as wild as I like :D

But for now, I am only concertrating the impact on full swing, and chipping. (Because my putting is shocking... need to chip it close to make it )

This is for Andylo...

The cause of tippy toe is because.....

no Andy, sorry but i got to be cruel to be kind. Your wrong on all counts.
If you dont change the way you are understanding your golf swing you will remain a golfing tragic.

You need to forget every thought regarding the action of your body and club in your downswing.

downswing faults like you have are caused by the compensations that your body and mind (both conscious and subsconscious) have to make in an attempt to hit the ball properly.

all downswing problems are caused by incorrect backswing and position at the top, and your swing is a perfect example of this.

Have a look at this comparison with Tiger and you can see where your biggest issue is. Should be pretty obvious. I remember we talked about this before but we only had a from behind pic that was not conclusive

From this position you cannot make a good swing - thats absolute and beyond dispute.

http://img136.exs.cx/img136/4068/woods1729bw.jpg

If you can get into a position similar to Tigers, then all your 'compensations' on your downswing will automatically dissappear. you will be on single figures in no time.

Another great example of where you need to be is the pic Onewood posted of Keza.

I cant tell you how to fix this, and neither can anyone else in this forum
and look where hitting 1000 balls at a range has got you.

You know what you have to do, and a good start would be to practice this drill.
http://www.confidentgolf.com.au/drill1.htm

Dont take this too hard, most golfers have this same fault to varying degrees including myself. You may ask why is it such a big problem if I can play of 5 with the same fault - well thats becuase i have perfect timing with my compensations, the result being i dont hit the ball far and have a horrible swing, which is inconsistent under pressure. And when my timing is bad so is my golf.

With a correct swing you dont need good timing, and you still look good, and it holds up under pressure.

otherwise the following services are available:

Superimposed with Tigers swing using the dot skeleton thing - to be Outsourced, need a quote.

.. because it's probably the only hole you CAN use an iron off the tee  apart from the 16th, there aren't really many other Par4's there where you could use an iron off the tee and be far enough down the fairway to have a chance of an easier GIR.

I hit 2-iron by the way.

Roc's swing looks very simple yet powerful.

Rok (Paul) has always had great technique. He and his dad taught me how to play golf when I was a teenager. Paul has always had amazing extension/width and this allows him to generate a lot of clubhead speed despite being of slim build.

The other advantage of having great fundamentals is that he manages to only play half a dozen games a year and still shoot around 80. If only....

Found'em, thanks. Hey, here's an idea. Just like "What's in the bag" for our clubs, what about a new section called "How's the swing" (or something like that) where we can post either pictures or clips of our swings? If you are making swing changes, it's a great chance to monitor your progress and get some feedback from the swing gurus on this forum (eg. Blakey  )

The thing I noticed besides the extension, is that Paul gets a very good shoulder turn (one of the best out of all Ozgolfers I've seen) yet his body seems relaxed and "quiet" during the swing. Something that looks so simple and easy when performed correctly, but bloody hard to master.

BTW, why don't you play more, Paul?

Paul's having a rare outing tomorrow at Gailes. I doubt he'll read your post Jono - he hasn't registered on ozgolf yet. Hes flat out with renovating and studies etc.

His shoulder turn is incredible. He's shortened his swing a lot over the past few years as he has gotten stronger. When we played down at Mornington last year, he was easily as long as me (and I'm 25kgs heavier) thanks to his turn and timing.

No offence to his cousin stoney - but I've always tried to swing like Paul, even though Pete was the better golfer. They're both blessed with great short games.
