I thought someone may have played on Australia Day, to start this thread, but I guess everyone was feeling too patriotic.

I spent yesterday wishing I was playing golf, so I wasted my RDO today. The feeling lasted three holes, then I wished I wasn't playing.

Awful ball striking for my 31 points. No positives. I holed a few putts, but missed some short ones, too. I refuse to do the stats. I know I hit two GIR's.

Did you play at home (Camden Valley) Jim?

Played early on Aus. Day for 36 points.

Upside was 6x 3 pointers, and all-but-one fairways hit.

Downside was 4x 1's (mostly due to 3-putting after the greenkeepers had manually watered greens ahead of us). And a wipe from the rough, that I had to duck under the rebound.

Played 9 off the comp tees with Haysey & Cookie this afternoon. Sprayed the driver, but everything else worked pretty well.

36 gross (+1)

2 greens
10 putts 8)

2 birdies
4 pars
3 bogies

Enjoyed an Australia Day hit at thirteenth beach with swanny, kev and Bruce. Extremely weird and inconsistent round, even for a chopper like me.

2 birdies 8-)
2 pars

2 'double Adolphs', i.e. 4 shots in a bunker :smt087
one moose (and not on one of the two holes above)

Hit the majority of my shots really well, but still raised the bat. What's this consistency thing people talk about? :-k

Yes. To answer a question you haven't asked yet, the course is amazingly soft and lush. It is just as well we had a lot of rain last year, because they are using the water now to keep the course alive. Even the rough is fairly deep in places. The greens are awful. Soft and bumpy. I know why, and it is probably better than having dead grass everywhere due to the heat, but it is still a bit frustrating.

Moore Park was pretty lush last weekend too.

Monday, 13th Beach, 28 points.

2 positives on the day though were the company, and getting some putting tips - thanks guys.

37 points. (The upside of the recession is that the clients want me to spend more time at golf.)

Good - Six 3 pointers and a 4 pointer, hit a lot of fairways. A couple more off the eclectic

Bad - Three 1's, two 0's. Couple of adolfs and leaving putts short on furry greens. Radar sometimes a bit off (pin-high pulls or dead-straight 'forgetting AD-333 don't roll like Tit. DT'.)

Played @ Fox Hills today.
Played OK and things started to go ok, 34 points was pretty good considering there were 4 wipes in there too:shock:. Putted pretty well with no 3 putts! Driver was ok and only went bad when I went bad.

5/13 Fwys
4 GIR
8 Pars

Played Wembley (Old) this morning with a mate at my old club. Playing Kennedy Bay has definitely made the game sharper.

82 gross, nett 69, Par score +3

1 Bird
8 Pars
7 Bogeys
2 Doubles

Hit the ball solidly all day. Only in trouble once off the tee. Didn't hit a lot of greens, and with a few more up and downs it could have been a great day.

Had quite a few 6-10 footers lip out on me. I have decided to sell the Spider putter, so just took out my old TM anser style because it is longer, and putted very well, so all in all pretty happy.

Shame I won't be there next week, I am leading the 2nd grade in a 2 week Summer Cup. Oh well.

41 pts at Albury Commercial today. 1 bird and 3 bogeys. Missed a couple of makeable birdie chances, but made my share of par saves. Just took the attitude of swinging at about 80%, and keeping the big numbers off the card.

Tried the Nike one Platinum today, and it went OK. Good solid ball - Nothing super, but I do like it's short game feel.

It was persisting down in Cairns all day so I made the trip up the hill to the Mareeba Opening Day comp. I saw some other OZgolfers (Ned Kelly, Julie & Russell), but didn;t get to play with them today. I was on fire for the first 12 or so holes, but faded a little later on as the rain set in up there as well.

77 gross
39 pts

9 fairways (thanks to a Demo '09 Burner 8))
8 greens
31 putts (including 3 x 3 putts, and a chip-in)

2 birdies (on 6 & 12)

I was hoping the TP version I ordered earlier in the week would be here by today, but it wasn't to be. 8)

Courty and Co bought the Cairns rain with them:

35 points, too wet to worry about stats.

Shot my handicap in a par event with wind gusting all day between 40 and 50 km's. Very difficult conditions, i was about 6th when i left with not many left to come in. 2 birdies and a good square on one hole (playing into the teeth of a gale, birdie on second ball) after hitting O.B. Numerous poor mistakes close to the green that i don't normally make (at least half of them anyways) and 86 was the worst i could have shot.

37 points.

Good - Lesson on the previous morning. (He tried different approach, as conventional teaching and ideas weren't gelling for me.)
Bird, 6 pars, 10 bogeys and only 1 double.
Got out of bunkers easily and predictably. :D
Ditto for lob wedge off bare downhill lies.

Bad - Nothing off the eclectic. Couple of wayward drives, but that can be fixed next month.

Wynnum Cup today. 86/73 so finished about midfield.
Started badly with 2 quadruples in the first 4 holes (10 & 13), followed that up with doubles on 15 & 16 courtesy of knifing balls out of the bunker.
But after using up all my handicap in the first 10 holes or so, played the last 8 holes in 2 over, and the last 6 square with the card. Started to get the short game scrambling happening, so very happy with that.
30 putts with no 3 putts.
5 GIR.
6/13 fairways but 9/13 effective tee shots.

Very happy with the short stuff especially my bunker play.

28 Putts
4/5 U/D From bunkers 8-)

Wynnum Cup with the crew today. 72/68.

Was 4 over after 4 so made a nice little comeback, with a little help from 2 eagles in a row on 12 and 13.

PS I reckon this was the best game I have ever played around Wynnum by at least 6 shots.

Played 9 at Goonawarra - supposed to play 18, but they decided to close the back 9 at 1:30 for watering!

Anyway...

43 off the stick (7 bogies and 2 pars)
3 fairways
1 GIR
14 putts (1 x 3 putt, 3 x 2 putts, 5 x 1 putts)

Distance control was way off with my approach into the greens (basically overshot them all), but the chip or putt back to get on was fairly well on target.

On the 9th, I took on the dogleg and ended up 60m from the front of the green - then took 3 more shots to get it in the hole.

84/70 to break my handicap for the first time since March 08... Runner up in Div 1 in the comp, lost .3 to get back to 13

37 putts including 4 3 putts... (I hope it arrives this week Alo!)
4 fairways for the round

A quality triple on the second saw me 4 over after 2 - it was a pretty damn good fightback on a windy 35 degree day that saw around 25% of the field pull out before or during the round.

Nice work on those categories mate. Played good chopper's golf and limited the damage.

Well played sir!

01/02/2009, Wynnum Cup

8/13 effective tee-shots.
6/18 effective approaches.
2/7 up and down successes.
36 putts.
-----------------
1 birdie.
4 pars.
8 bogeys.
5 others.

Score (B9 1st) 46-43-89 nett 78 (Par 36-34-70 CCR 68)

A ordinary round of golf today. As is so often the case in golf, when something comes back into your game (irons in this case), something is taken away (short game). I'm not used to having 36 putts per round, and although the extra greens hit contribute to this, my putting and chipping is definitely off. Wynnum's greens are tricky, especially on Cup day, but I'd still expect to putt better.

The two shot penalty for hitting a wrong ball didn't help my cause either.

Next round: And again, I don't know, so it mightn't be until I go to the NT again in a few weeks time.

Wynnum Cup yesterday with the gang. Hit it ok, but failed to hole a putt longer than my size 12 golf shoe. Anyway, there were a couple of nice shots, including a nice 5 iron to 10 feet on the 5th. Next round... Back at Brookwater in 2 weeks.

8/13 FIR
7 GIR
36 putts (+ a few extra from just off greens)

80 gross for 72 nett.

Had 22 points on Sunday, my worst game for ab out 5 years.

They had qualifying for a mixed honour board event on Sunday, slowest round I have ever played at the course. After 5 holes I got the "Can't Bee's" and that put pay to any hope I had of returning a reasonable score.
