The story behind St.Michael 16-18, any wiseman?

Hi there,

I had a hit at St.Michael yesterday afternoon. The weather was great until the rain started around 11th hole. The fairway (is it still fair?) on the 16th - 18th surprised me with a lot of dead grass. Does any wiseman around here known the story what has happened to these fairway?

I think it has something to do with the course being re-turfed into Couch only grasses
