Anybody get into xmas light hanging around this time of year....

We have a house a couple of doors down that has entered into a compitition 8) looks like a lot of time and money spent on some of them...

AndyP

Nope, not one light up here or a Xmas tree. :D

There is a place around the corner that always does well in the competitions, and gets plenty of people coming to have a geezer and blocking up our streets.

we have a few lights up.. only inside the house though ... never outside.
We do have 2 trees up though. 1 for the missus to play with, and 1 for my girls to decorate

HoHoHo indeed :P

many of the houses down here absolutely cover their houses with lights. They actually have bus tours to visit the best ones. I think the judging is tomorrow night.

Its quite funny to see in some streets every house is lit up, and you can see that every year the nighbours are trying to out do each other. Our neighbour also has a santa, sleigh and reindeer on his roof about half size in scale.

Xmas lights are a pox on society - bah and humbug I say !! - I keep a ready supply of Round Up in the garage and an old Zero weeding wand just for the purpose of ruining the front garden and lawn of anyone in my suburb foolish enough to go 'xmas lighting'.

Well that time of year again, has anybodies opinions changed. Due to me working next weekend, Rachelle, Tayla and I put the tree up yesterday.

The Clark Griswald has come out in me and I have been up on the roof for a couple of hours today to put up the initial lights for our place this year. I am thinking of going the whole hog and putting up something that Clark would be proud of!

my missus and kids went berko on the weekend and covered the lounge/dining room with lights.

They also put the tree up, complete with lights, candy-canes, train that circles the tree

I love the lights, my kids love the lights. I am not doing a big display this year thanks to time contraints like work and golf. How is it such an appalling waste of resources, they are cheap and use fa power.

We have some Xmas lights warehouses near here and I am going to hit them tomorrow. Our street a few years ago made the papers for the amount of lights. A few houses have since changed hands and last year was not too many houses decorated. Hopefully this year will be different.

I used search and found this thread! Yay me!

WA guys, take heed of the next paragraph (others can skip it if they actually want to read about my lights...

We went to Oak st in Forrestfield tonight and there are about 10 or more houses in the street that have some great displays. We jumped out of the car at the first one and walked around. Its a great atmosphere with people walking around, kids playing and people drinking in the street. I highly recommend taking the time to do it. Our kids loved it. Even my 21 month old boy was saying WOW at every house.

It also inspired me to come home and pull out more of my lights that i had in the garage and really finish off my house. I now have lights along the gutters, lights around the front garden, fairy lights in my round topiary trees, lights up my driveway, a blow up santa on the lawn (thanks Solarman for returning him) and tonight i braved putting my Santa cutout that counts down to Christmas out the front of my house. Hes screwed in to a metal pot and the power supply is inside, so here's hoping he doesn't get stolen! When it reaches midnight on the 25th, everything flashes HO. Quite fitting really!

I am going to head to Red Dot tomorrow to try and get matching lights so that I can chase the roof line next year!

I truly love Christmas and my kids get so much enjoyment from the lights.

Over and Out.

Driving around and looking at them in the rain.

there is a house in Sherwood that is incredible.

Has them all hooked up to a computer and going off to the tune of Christmas carols.

More like a preofessional laser show, than christmas lights.

We went on a tour of the town last night and there is probably 1/20th of the houses lit up compared to 5 years ago. Sad.

Same here, was probably even greater, a street that used to be full of light and have all sorts of stuff happening now has one house in the street with lights. Even the Ice Cream trucks aren't around either.

Our street is lit up pretty good with about 12 or so houses out of 20 lit. Our next door neighbor dresses as Santa and hands out lollies(not the boiled variety) until near on midnight every night the week of chrissy. Great feeling ib the street with lots of car clubs buses and people walking around with their kids.

I took the kids out to look at the lights the other night and I just love them, kinda gets you into the christmas spirit.

We went to a few suburbs but Landsdale was going beserk with lights - so many houses with them.

There was one house with one lawn made to look like an ice skating rink with ice skaters made out of lights. They also had snowflake lights above the skaters.

If i could figure out how to post pics on here I would put them up.

There are a very limited number of places selling them this year. Bunnings and Red Dot had jack all. You need to get in early or buy them from online places throughout the year.

Big W had a good range at good prices this year.

There is a lack of Christmas lights around our place this year. Sad Panda.

A few years back, my parents left my brother and I at home alone for a weekend. After their scrooge-esque approach to Xmas lights, we decided to have some fun and set up a red rope light hanging outside their bedroom window, visible from the road.
