Golfnut is from Freo.

A few more members might pop up from WA. At least we have as many as ACT.

Oh, and JC you are full of crap. You will be owing me about 20 shots in a few weeks.

Guys i'm up for "IT" just as long as someone explains exactly what "IT" is.
And hopefully its not for a couple of weeks yet as i'm still house bound helping the missus with the new bubs on the weekends........although snuck in 2 sessions at the range this week believe it or not. ;)

Nothing yet, just trying to get the WA boys signed up for some matchplay throughout the next year.

If it remains the 4 of us, we could do 2 sets of round robins over the next 12 months. Shouldn't be too hard.

Golfnut
22nd November 2008, 08:42 AM
Ok......that sounds good....something to look forward to.
Don't have an official handicap here though!?!?

Prizes???

Do we want to chuck in a lobster each?

I like the sound of the 2 x round robin adlo
that way we can each use a course of our choice for a home & away type setup.

adlo
22nd November 2008, 03:07 PM
Great idea. And yeah, throw something out there to sweeten the deal.

simmsy
22nd November 2008, 03:10 PM
either a bit of cash or each chip in for a small poxy trophy for the "ozgolf - wa matchplay champs".
But i am always fond of cash.

Cash is good. A small token of victory might be a good idea, but doesn't have to be a trophy.

Johnny Canuck
22nd November 2008, 07:14 PM
Cash? Ok, golfnut gets his 36, I'll take 27 and we put in $20,000 each, winner takes all?

I like the course of choice idea too.

TourFit is in if time frame is OK...

Like Golfnut I have a 'new' bub too and while the missus is usually OK with me playing once a week, it'll depend on the setup...?

Having looked at the handicap numbers, playing for cash, audi's etc - maybe NOT...I'm off 9!

Guys, we should be able to make something work. We have 12 months, should be able to squeeze a few matchplay games in?!?

John, FYI, Johnny Canuck is F.O.S. He is off 5.

Golfnut
28th November 2008, 07:49 PM
Can't wait to see you guys show me how its done...seriously!!!!....never played a round with anyone who could shoot under 90.

adlo
28th November 2008, 08:13 PM
I have never hit with Mr TourFit but apparently he BOMBS it for a little fella.

Johnny Canuck would go close to par on a public track. He will show you how to get up and down with the best of them.

Johnny Canuck
28th November 2008, 08:30 PM
thanks for the compliment adlo. fitting for today. played even on the front with 3/9 greens in reg. all it means is tomorrow i won't be able to chip or buy a putt.

simmsy
22nd December 2008, 02:04 PM
Adlo,
Hows the matchplay comp taking shape??
Have we firmed up on some numbers 5-6??

We should really get some movement on this a try and get something in motion for next month.

Let me know if I can help.

Looks like a few players may struggle to fit this in, but we can always make a start and see how it goes.

Don't know the best way to run this thing, I might have a look at the QLD Matchplay threads for some ideas.

I think the home and away idea may be buggered having 7 players, unlikely to get all the matches played. So a neutral venue may work better.

AndyP
22nd December 2008, 06:12 PM
Two pools of round robin (4 and 3), where the winners of each pool play the final?

adlo
22nd December 2008, 06:20 PM
That is a pretty good idea AndyP. Cheers.

Johnny Canuck
22nd December 2008, 08:16 PM
Exasac is very crook right now. We'll need to get confirmation from him before we start. He's spent the last 2 weeks in the hospital.

adlo
22nd December 2008, 08:18 PM
That is terrible news. Hope he is OK.

We'll just leave this until the new year anyway.

simmsy
22nd December 2008, 09:14 PM
Yeah fair enough then.

Hope exasac gets better soon, real bummer being crook this time of year.

The pool situation might work ok.

Let's open this up again in the new year Adlo.

Cheers

I'd be keen too guys,
What courses are you thinking?

adlo
23rd December 2008, 06:30 PM
That will depend on the match.

We have players based at Hartfield, Kennedy Bay, Mt Lawley, Joondalup. Golfnut is South of river and was thinking Glen Iris.

If we have 8 players we can make 2 pools of 4 and group players nearby.

hocko
23rd December 2008, 06:46 PM
I am south of the river too.
Glen Iris is not a bad track.

adlo
23rd December 2008, 07:22 PM

hocko
23rd December 2008, 08:48 PM

At least we will know who we are playing with.

hocko

By the way, if you give me 36 I'll be happy to play for the Audi.....

Johnny Canuck
24th December 2008, 12:17 AM
sounds good. i'll take 36 as well. still no handicap.

Golfnut
24th December 2008, 12:25 AM
If your going to play off 36 then i'm going to have to play off 72 to even have s sniff of a chance against you JC :)

adlo

BYO ludicrous handicap.

We are in for a quality matchplay comp here gents.

Cool.....still haven't worked out how that system works though

Fine....be like that then.
I'll give you 2 shots and JC can give me 5?

adlo

Easy, as long as you can come up with a reasonable handicap we can show you the rest...

hocko

How many cards have you put in at KB adlo?

adlo
2nd January 2009, 02:56 PM
5, we'll see if they have a handicap waiting for me tomorrow morning.

hocko
2nd January 2009, 02:57 PM
Mmmm can't see it being 36 though can you?

adlo
2nd January 2009, 03:04 PM
No not really, gave it a good shot on my 5th card though

Golfnut
2nd January 2009, 03:16 PM
Easy, as long as you can come up with a reasonable handicap we can show you the rest...

Ok, well my last 5 rounds i've averaged about 103 but all those games were at courses I don't normally play or was a first timer....I should try and get a few full rounds in at Glen Iris where I normally play but my Sunday morning playing partners only playing 9 holes....my last full round there I managed 96...... Freo public if I go round twice usually get me about the same or 2 shots less but has a par 68.

adlo
2nd January 2009, 05:54 PM
How about 27 then?

Glen Iris would rate around 70, and if that is where you want to host a match, seems fair.

Golfnut
2nd January 2009, 06:27 PM
Hmmm 27.....my 96 at GI was my first real score under 100......somewhere between 99-103 would be good but i'll see how my scores go leading up to the first Matchplay round.....would love to be able to say I actually play off 27 :) (As crap as that is in reality)

adlo
2nd January 2009, 06:30 PM
Thats OK, we'll use the US system to better reflect your potential, rather than our AGU method.

hocko
16th February 2009, 03:22 PM

Any progress yet Adlo?

Johnny Canuck
16th February 2009, 03:53 PM
Will probably have to wait a bit as we have our interim club champs coming up in less than two weeks. That takes care of four weekend days. Maybe sometime around the end of March.

I will get something drawn up this week, to get started in March.

hocko
26th February 2009, 11:08 PM
O.K. guys lets get this cracking, Adlo back me up here.....JC you've got club champs this week yeh.
What we need to know is who's got what on during March....and I don't mean attire?
We should get the first round out of the way during March while the weather is good.
Everyone keen to play; we need to know roughly where you live and if you are members anywhere that we may squeeze a game. Then we can do the draw and have people who are relatively close to each other. Coz I'm not travelling to Joondalup every week.
Oh, handicaps.....be reasonable you blokes without a golflink....JC you can now give me 8 shots....
JC....4
Adlo....14?
Couldavebeenpro....8
wachopper....27
golfnut....27

Anyone else care to add?

Random draw for groups above.

I will set up a schedule. Players to decide on the venue between themselves. Cut off dates will be set, I will borrow some rules from other, more experienced states (QLD I would say).

One match, can be a neutral venue, or not.

Top 2 from each pool to make a final group of 6.

hocko
26th February 2009, 11:21 PM
Bring it on boys...this is going to be fun.
At least, if we chop it up on the day we can still have a cold beer at the end.

adlo
26th February 2009, 11:23 PM
I think I don't want to play Chopper at Mosman Park, never played there before, maybe a neutral venue there.

Bruce Dickinson and I can play at KB or Joondalup.

couldavebeenpro and I can play at Seaview or KB... both windy anyway.

Johnny Canuck
26th February 2009, 11:27 PM
Exasac is probably out. Still pretty crook.

I should be available near the end of the month, definately not before then.

hocko
26th February 2009, 11:27 PM
Let's do a random draw anyway, put us all in a hat and take two out at a time.
Those guys can then decide where thay will play?

hocko
26th February 2009, 11:29 PM
O.K. take exasac out and someone can have a bye first round...maybe the last one out of the hat, or the first, or the tenth, or the fourth, or ME?

adlo
26th February 2009, 11:34 PM
I drew the groups out of a hat.

zrw can take Exasac's place?
Either that, or the 3 in that group get a forfeit win.

hocko
26th February 2009, 11:46 PM
Sorry adlo I didn't see the draw.
1/2 of group two are from the south. ie. you and I
3/4 of group three are from the south. i.e wachopper,JC and golfnut
the rest I dont know.
Where are you keen to play ads? neutral?

adlo
26th February 2009, 11:52 PM
Group 1: Rebjon and IDgolfguy are mates and will play anytime. TourFit is north, member at Mt Lawley.

Group 2: Bruce D is north, member at Joondalup, works at Wembley GC. qbnchopper is freo, member Mosman Pk.

Group 3: All south. Well simmsy is pretty mobile, member at Hartfield.

And to answer your question, neutral sounds fun. Anywhere decent.

adlo
27th February 2009, 12:02 AM
All WA members check the main post for the draw. More details to follow.....

couldavebeenpro, what is near you? Are you Freo way? Actually, been meaning to get a game at Royal Freo with my reciprocals from Bunbury GC, I wonder if I can bring a guest?

hocko
27th February 2009, 08:58 AM
Ads, yes I'm in Freo.
Royal Freo sound like a good neutral groung track if we can get on.
Golfnut and wachopper are both Freo public regulars, maybe Geln Iris would be good neutral ground?
Anyway, I'ts up to them.

How's this work then, do we just pair off in our groups and play?
I thought all 4 in the group play together and the top 2 go through.....or is it; pair off, the two winners from each pair play each other then the winner goes on to play the winner from the other groups???

Sorry Adlo, been slow on the uptake here mate.
I'm still atleast 3 weeks away from swinging a club after me op. mate and I'm away for work the last week of March and 1st week of April. After that my schedule starts to clear a bit.
As you know I'm a member at Hartfield, playing weekends there is pretty hard due to comps so would prefer to play my "home" games during the week when ever possible, but will discuss with the lads in my group.

W.A Choppa
28th February 2009, 01:07 PM
No worries, all I need is a weeks notices , Let us know what you think of Kwinana GC as I was thinking of becomeing a member :-k

Played there on New Years Eve and really enjoyed it.....quite long, some very challenging uphill holes, rough was tidy and not too long. I'd heard they were putting in a lot of effort to raise the standard of the course and it seems to be really paying off....Well worth a good look at if your thinking of joining a club..... I would join in a flash if I knew I could get down there a couple of times a week.

Hey Adlo, with each of the groups are you looking to play each opponent in your group the once?
If so would that work that you get
1xhome,
1xaway &
1 you&opponent choose neutral course??

Then the top two of each group move to next round?

Yep, play everyone once. Decide the venue amongst yourselves.

If the next rounds we might be able to get into a home & away challenge.

8th April 2009, 12:34 AM
Adlo, not trying to steal your thunder, but I thought if you did this you could get a bye and be open to wankers calling you a wanker.

So, I took the liberty of streamlining your event into a normal matchplay bracket, with all matches drawn from a hat and the last four drawn out getting a rd 1 bye.

If you want to use it, fel free, if you want me to pull my head in, just say so. Truth is I'm bored at work and it's something to do.

Doing the draw now.

Scottt

It contains less games, so at least it's a chance of being completed while it's still 2009 (not like the pissweak effort of the Victorian contingent last year).

Yeah that is what is worrying me, knock out makes much more sense. Most people can swing a few extra games over the next few months.

OK, the powers have spoken. Due to the non existent nature of this moving forward a knock out format has been introduced and drawn by a neutral party (Scottt in the UK).

1st round matches that are not a BYE will need to be completed by the end of June, so we can look at completing this thing by the end of the year. Original post updated, and excel attachment has the draw (see post #1).

Please arrange all matchplay events in full view on these forums so that if someone forfeits a match (ie does not make the deadline) the appropriate WA Ozgolfer can move into the next round without any fuss.

Round 1 matches to be completed by the end of June:

Rebjon vs WAChopper
Golfnut vs TourFit
Johnny Canuck vs. Simmsy

Sat the 25th could be an option. I'll let you know soon.

I can only play on weekends now that daylight savings is gone. I also have my match play at Kennedy to take care of. The 25th could be good, as long as I don't have to play my Kennedy one that day. We could go a neutral venue. I may be able to get us on to Secret Harbour for $30, but would have to make a call.

simmsy
17th April 2009, 10:54 PM
mmmm.....
weekends are hard for me at the moment.
Certainly can't make the 25/26 as I am away that w'end.
How about the 27th it's the Anzac Day P/H here in Perth?

Secret Harbour is fine with me.
If you would like to play Hartfield we could do that on the monday. Can't play Hartfield on w'ends due to comps both days.

If 27th doesn't fit for you how about May 2/3?

Johnny Canuck
18th April 2009, 01:10 AM
I'll have to see about the 27th. May 2 is the deadline day for me to play my match play at Kennedy, so that day could be out. I'm going up north for 11 days on the 4th, so the 3rd is probably out as well as I'll be switching baby seats in cars, etc... all day.

Should have let you lot cut yourselves adrift when you wanted to in the 1930s!

Secession referendum

In 1933, the Western Australian people did not want to be part of Australia any more. The main reason was that Western Australia had to give money to the rest of Australia to pay for national services like the army and education, but they weren't seeing the benefits. As well, the Great Depression (http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Depression) had happened and many people were homeless and poor all over the world, including Western Australia.
The government decided to hold a referendum (http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Referendum) and ask the people whether they wanted to start their own country, and 68% said yes. However, the rest of Australia and the British Parliament stopped it. Even today, some Western Australians do not want to be part of Australia.

Relax and make some pars on the holes you get shots. He is at a distinct disadvantage giving away so many shots. You should get shots on 1,2,4,5,6,7,9 on the front 9 and 1,2,4 and 7 should be par holes for you. Put the pressure back on him to have to make birdies.

Oh, and don't relax if he is off the fairway or in deep scrub, he knows how to get outta jail.

Johnny Canuck takes the win for "Team Canada"

well the first of the WA Matchplay games is done and dusted and it was an epic!!
JC wins on the 20th hole.
Simmsy was 2up after 6 and Johnny was crappin himself then JC came back to win 7,8&9
then we sq. 10-12 with JC winning the 13th to go 2up with 5 to go.
Tee up on the 16th i was 3 down with 3 to go JC is on the green 20ft and i was in the gully on the left. Well JC felt sorry for me and 3 jacked it and i scrambled a par for the win. I win the next two holes to carry it to overtime.
Sq. the first xtra hole, but lose the 20th after getting into a bit of badluck from the tee.

Great day was had perfect weather. Thanks very much Johnny for showing me around the KBay great track truly a brilliant course and very fortunate for it being a nice day.

Adlo - nearly birdied the 9th when we were playing extra holes on the way back in. 205mtr 3 wood to 10ft. I was happy with that, but could only think if only.

Cheers

Simmsy..

simmsy
24th May 2009, 10:55 PM
yeah pretty rare for sure. it was a great match. JC was great in giving a few tips around the course.
You need to play that course a fair bit to feel any degree of comfort about it. Several times i was just confused and lost as to how to play a shot or where to hit it.
Hopefully the other matches might get going now as well.

Johnny Canuck
24th May 2009, 11:19 PM
Simmsy is the biggest bandit on ozgolf, even bigger than Just. After playing with him at Joondalup, I was thinking 12, maybe 13 handicap, not 18!

I birdied 3 of the first 7 and walked to the 8th tee one down.

On the day I was 3 over for 20 holes and BARELY scraped out a victory.

Thanks to the gods of Kennedy that finally popped up and bit Simmsy on hole 20.

If we can ever get him free from parenthood on a weekend, he would make a great forth for a Holden Scramble side.

Yeah thanks for the kind words there gents. But Adlo if you had of seen Johnny's 3 putt on the 16th you would of called in "the fix" how he 3 putted that I will never know( he is a very kind man I think!), JC is so solid from any distance I think he lipped at least 6 20ft+ putts that you swear should of fallen. I was fairly happy with my round considering i haven't played in over a month and with a new driver that I had never hit in anger before, i ended up with 36stab points with 2 pickups if we were counting over the 18.

I would say a definate no for the next month on weekend golf as the new bub will be here by the w'end one way or the other.
After that as long as I get a bit of notice I can work on the missus for the occassional w'end game.

I know how you feel simmsy....we've got a 2yr old and a 6 month old so squeezing in 18 is very difficult especially if you want to keep the peace.
I've tried to get at at least 1 round of 18 in per month but so far only managed 4 full rounds this year.....I've resorted to having a hit after work to try and keep touch.....manage to squeeze in at least 2 9 hole rounds per week which isn't too bad.

simmsy
26th May 2009, 08:51 AM
Yeah it can be a tuff gig to juggle, like you have been golfnut its been pretty busy for the last two years with the missus being pregnant then looking after a new bub and now pregnant again pretty soon after.
Anyway enough of baby sh!t the mods will ban this thread if it continues!!

I too can usually get out to the course of an afternoon but always weighing up whether to hit the range and chpn green or just go out and mess around half a dozen holes. its usually the later which isn't great for my game.

When are the rest of the WA boys going to get this Matchplay comp running, c'mon guys I realize most of us are busy but it is well worth doing and well worth the effort to meet a few of the ozgolf locals.

i think we need to check and see who is still interested and possibly adjust the bracket to suit.

if we only have 8 including simmsy, we can just make a one sided bracket as opposed to having 7 byes.

couldhavebeenapro hasn't been on in over 2 months, if he's not going to be on the forum, he shouldn't be in the matchplay anyways.

8 would be perfect.

If we get nine, randomly select one of the matches to be first round, with the winner going through to the round of eight, if we get 11, have two first round matches. if we get 10, bring in mayhem. that should cover it.

OK I have added BD into the definite pile, and I know qbnchopper will play.

He is a part time worker, full time golfer these days. Just doesn't spend much time on the forum.

couldavebeenpro is gawn, his mate WAChopper is gawn and TourFit has been ousted by me. He rarely plays.

Cocky. Maybe next year you will have a "real" handicap.

Rebjon and qbnchopper: rebjon, chopper mainly hovers at tgf.com but send him a PM here. Plays at Mossy Pk, golfs mainly during the week, you should be right to sort something out.

idgg and BD: I think BD mainly golfs Sundays, that should work once he has his sticks.

Golfnut: You are going down. As you have no official handicap, you are giving me 14 strokes  Midweek should be fine for me, I know you are struggling to play golf lately.

JC: see you in the 2nd round.

Real handi-cap. I clean up with my WAGL H-cap. I see no need to change.

Actually I dream about a 'real' handicap. After the os holiday??

You are doing a decent job Scottt. See you in WA before that time expires. With starting a new business and the "K" time frame less than 3-4 years here, I am thinking a trip to Barny and maybe the sandbelt will be the best I can muster.

When I get home, the major priorities are to use my Deal reciprocals to see RQ, RS RM, Metro and RA, revisit Newcastle, a WA trip to play 3-4 tracks, see some of the Sandbelt and Mornington and Bellarine peninsulas, play Barny Dunes and maybe an NZ trip if I can afford it.

Maybe 15-20 courses I really want to see, then I will happily join a Sydney track and live out my days getting fat and old.

Mid week might be the go if you don't mind playing in the arvo but i'll gauge how the missus is as to whether we do it on a weekend......long weekend coming up so we may be able to do something....if not mid week will be fine.

Had a real purple patch about 3 weeks ago where anything I touched with the putter was draining from anywhere on or off the green....played a couple of 42's and a 43 which included an average of 12-13 putts per 9 holes.....alas I have since returned to my usual average/crap putting which has seen my recent scores head back up into the high 40's :(....a recent mid week round at Freo public netted me a score of 100 for 18 with a shocking 37 putts (hence the reason for looking at the Oddy 2 ball the other day)

......so go easy on me big fella

Nut boy... I posted that last night when I was still excited about this game we call "golf". After another shocking performance today I cannot face playing on Monday.

I will have a week off leading up to the 25th June when I am flying out of this hell hole. That will probably be my best bet, I will be able to play whenever (and hopefully by then I am resembling a golfer)
