General info & rules

Handicap matchplay to be played
In the event of ties at the end of matches it is up to the parties involved to decide on how they want to decide the winner. Options are a full replay at another date/venue, sudden death play off, etc.
Individuals will arrange their own matches at a mutually agreed course. *Its expected No golfer will insist on playing at their own club.
After round 1, any player who withdraws from the event, his previous opponent takes his place - time permitting.
Full AGU Handicap as at the date of the match applies, verifiable by golf link or other official source.
If no matchplay index marked on scorecard, AGU matchplay index to be used. Note: The index applies in accordance with the order that your match plays the holes. *The 1st hole on the matchplay index is your First hole, even if you tee of the 10th.

There will be a set date for each round of matches to be played. *If a match is not played both competitors are disqualified, unless one forfeits. *A player may appeal this to the committee should he think the opponent did not make fair effort to arrange a match.
Approx 1 to 2 months will be given to arrange a match, about 12 months for the whole event.

Naturally, I am in.

But, I have a suggestion that might make it easier for us to attract players and get some games organised.

I think we should have two pools - 1 bracket for players who prefer to play weekends, and the other for players who are more likely to be available midweek. You can nominate which bracket is more suitable for you, and those who can play any time can fill up whichever bracket has less players.

Ideally, there would be 8 on each side, and availabilities wouldn't be a problem until the final.

There is plenty of time to think about this. No need to close off nominations until the new year.

The way we have done it it in previous years was there would be a draw and players would organise games between themselves with a cutoff date for each round to be played by. The cut off was not strictly enforced it was just so we could get the games moving forward all year. It worked really well so far.

How does everyone feel me doing a draw today?
I will do a seeded draw for the top 8 from last years results. The top 8 will be guaranteed 1st round byes and a few luck one in the rest of the draw will be luck also as we dont have a full 32 man field. If we get additional entries before the 1st round is finished they will slot in at a free spot. For example if match 12 is a round and match 13 has a free spot they will slot in there. Does that make sense?

If no one has a drama with that, I will do a draw soon and get it online. I'll give you all a day to put your 2 cents worth in.

So what happened to 31st January? Or even the day for our 2 cents ? (A few of us were at the Oatlands game this arvo.)

I favour ... Wait for closing date, publish a single final draw, with byes favouring those who have have supported Ozgolf games the most.

I like the idea of finish each round by a set date. Any case, I'll happily go with the flow.

ps. Can I use today's result and say I beat Zipptopp 2 and 1 ?

Why are there only 4 weeks allocated for the first round matches and more time allocated for the lesser number of games in the next rounds?

Would it be possible to make the first round run through till mid March and shorten the second round accordingly?

I thought the time would be enough but I guess it is not. 1st rounds should tried to be played asap. Will 2 weeks make that much difference to people? The time limits are there for people to try to meet no strictly enforced though. I think we will leave the other dates all as is though.

Is there anyone that is actually not going to be able to play their 1st round matches by the end of February?

Surely one hand would have been sufficient ?

zipptopp
13th February 2009, 04:28 PM
Well probably it would have no effect on the result had it been one hand or two. The specialist said no no knife or needle just let it get better. I'll reschedule when it feels right.

I have plenty of free time at present due to being retrenched Tuesday last week, just need some better weather to test it out.

Dotty
13th February 2009, 05:59 PM
Good to hear Zipptopp. Just let us know, when it feels right. (I had the same problem on-and-off for about 15 years.)

btw. Two hands and a leather wedge would have been needed last Wednesday. (5 under handicap for me that day.)

Get well soon.

Dotty
25th February 2009, 02:54 PM
Dotty beat Zipptopp at Cumberland this morning = 2 and 1.

Very close match with birdies and eagles aplentyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. (Sorry, nose is interfering with the keyboard, with that one.)

Close match with Zipptopp going 1 up straight away and the rest of the nine was either 1 up or square, to turn all square. A bottle of coke fuelled Dotty to win the first two holes after the turn, and it was either Dotty 2 or 1 up, until the match finished on the 17th.

As always, a pleasure to catch up with fellow Sydney OzGolfers for a game, a chat and a drink.

Bad shots on each side? Dotty finding 5 greenside bunkers on the first 5 holes. Zipptopp having a B&D of a tee-shot on the 2nd.

As a first round loser I don't think it would work letting us back in. Let the results stand and redo the draw to a smaller field.

May have to do it as Trung leaves a hole in the field.

Grunt
23rd March 2009, 04:40 PM
To fill the void left by Trung dropping out, i have decided to let Macjackass and Matthew Garry Webbs game sit as a 2nd round game if it happens. Not sure what happens if it is a forfiet?

I may have to concede my first round match to Frank Spencer

Dotty
23rd March 2009, 04:52 PM
May have to do it as Trung leaves a hole in the field.
So the winner of Macjackass and MGW goes straight to the next third round after winning only one match.

This is no different to any of the dozen top seeds being able to go to the third round after a single win.

I suggest just go with what was originally proposed, rather than the continual adjustments of deadlines and structure.

Manly-Warringah 2009 - 'Bulldogs by the Sea'

I believe that is reserved for Cronulla - being "Campbelltown by the Sea" . . .

BTW: Hate Rugby League - but have a lot of mates in the Shire and it is a shithole.

Cronulla is just a touch better than Manly.
Cronulla Mall vs Manly Corso? Not even a contest, give me Cronulla Mall.
Northies vs The Steyne. Northies hands down.
Quality of tottie? Toss a coin.
Manly has the ferries, which is definitely better than a Tangara full of Lebbos from Cronulla to Central via Hurstville.
Both have a leading private golf club that is waaaaaay overrated and a good public (Warringah and Woolooware) with potential.
Both have plenty of tossers who like to overuse the term "god's country", but I'll take the Shire tossers if only because most of my family lives there

Dotty
23rd March 2009, 10:23 PM
I originally heard it as 'Gosford - Blacktown by the sea.'

And yes, it was a dig at the NRL juggernaut's ineptitude prevent a repeat of past embarrassments.

ps. Manly by a short nose, since the Shire includes Sylvania Waters and Noeline Donehaur.

Just beat El Guapo by one. down the last.

Bloody top game.

Manly Corso worse than Cronulla Mall - you are living in a dream world.. I have just got back from the Corso and it is wall to wall MILF, totty, tarts and more backpackers than a free food convention.

Cronulla Mall is your "home brand" of totty. edible, but not for special occasions.

3oneday won our match 3 and 2 at Camden Lakeside. He was always ahead after winning the first two holes and I stood on the 15th tee dormie 4 down. Got one back on the 15th but we tied the par 3 16th. I think Pete said he was 5 over after 16. I don't know what I was. Being the first comp game after a long layoff, I was erratic, but I was happy to hit some good shots and not lose by 8 and 7. ;)

We didn't play the last 2 holes as there was a large group of coporate golfers in front of us playing strokeplay. :( Watching them come back to the tee after a lost ball was really painful.

Another close tussle, but in the some very ordinary conditions.

MikeZone13 got one-up a couple of times on the front nine, but turned all square.

Dotty went 1 up after 10, but lost the next two to MZ's pars. Level pegged (both playing off 10, so no annoying 'par net birdie' calls), until Dotty wins 16 and 18 to finish 1 up.

In an exceptionally low-quality match, Coffs Hacker defeated Jimandr 6&5 today at Cabramatta. Any player who recorded a par was guaranteed to win a hole today. But I recorded a lot more doubles or worse than he did.

Ok a few executive decisions about the Matchplay have been made overnight.

Matthew_Gary_Webb has been DQ'd. been too long with no posts and no indication of playing.
Macjackass has moved forward to the next round.
Macjackass will play PingJnr in the 1/4 final before the 31st August.
Amanda & Virge666 you have until the 14th of next month to organise a game and have it played before 31st August. If not the 2 of you will be DQ'd
All 1/4 finals to be played by August 31st. Dotty & his opponent will get a little longer (2 weeks possibly)
Semi Finals to be played by 30th September
Final to be played by 31st October.

Next years Matchplay will have more strict dates for completion of games and hopefully this wont happen.

If you want an OzGolf witness to your game I'll do my best to be available if you are allowed to invite more guests to Carnarvon (I'm assuming you'll play there).

My final question is this. Will Ping Jnr get any dinner if he is successful?

Coffs handicap worried me too. ;) Re-match.

Jim, I had no problem with any Ping home-field 'advantage'. It was a blessing to not play a neutral course of MacGrange, Shellharbour or Lynwood (sub)standard. (Also means I can organise a home match against either of them, if needed next year.)

Congrats to Ping Jnr.

Will have to work out when Jim can transfer the trophy to you.

I think we need to get it mounted as a true Trophy now. I will look into it and work out how much it will cost to do.
