Not yet... a home & away series sounds good, though.

Yeah I'll play.

As opposed to a home 'n' away series, why not just have a round-robin. Everybody plays everybody once at a neutral venue. The ACT scoring system looks good.

I was just thinking about that exact thing last night. As long as everybody agrees and can commit to enough games, then I'm all for it.

It's off handicap, Julie. Using the men's match index I would assume. You'd even get to play off the reds. Although when I play you we should both play off the same tee cos you're a foot taller than me.

First post updated....

It would be great to be able to all play together whenever the matches are to be played, but I appreciate it may be difficult to find a day/ date when everyone is available. What does everyone think? The other option is for the opponents to arrange the game for a time that suits them (preferably at a neutral venue unless both members at the same course).

Hmmm. Just mulling over your scoring system in my head, Courty. I'd rather see more emphasis on the win rather than the margin.

Why ? Because say , as in your example, s756238 has a 5/3 win ( 14 points ) and then doesn't win any other game, he finishes on 14 points. Then say I win every game 1 up ( which is very likely ) I'll finish the "season" with 10 points. Am I right ?

Any points for loosing your golf ball during a Match Play Round ???????

Courty
19th November 2008, 09:22 PM
The formula as it stands now is this (based on my rough recollection of the ACT Matchplay setup):

Win = 6 pts
Bonus pts = Holes up + Holes remaining (ie. a 5/3 win would be 5+3 = 8 pts)

So if Mike wins 4 games at 1 up, he gets 24 pts for the wins plus 4 bonus pts for a total of 28 pts.

All that said, I'm happy to amend the system if a better way is suggested.

I just looked at the ACT thread again. I dunno where I got the 6 pts from .

Scoring is 20 points for a win, 10 for a squared match, with a point per margin (eg 2&1 is 3 points, 5&3 8 points).

I'll change the scoring to match the ACT method in the interest of uniformity.

Only seven sleeps to go ! - looking forward to getting up there - what is the current list of players ? - am having trouble keeping track !................and a side question for Julie and Brett [ and any other Port locals] , the wife has asked me to find out if Port has any largish supermarkets to get supplies for the week or are we better off getting the non cold stuff in Cairns after we arrive ? - I think it would make more sense to ask if beer and wine are cheaper in Cairns than Port Douglas...

Buy your beer and wine in Cairns at either 1st Choice in Sheridan Street or Dan Murphys on Mulgrave Road. We have a good IGA in Port where you can do your shopping and there's also a Woolies in Mossman. Avoid the Coles in the main street of Port.

What time are you guys leaving from Cairns on Sunday, and would there be a chance of a ride up? I am at the wife's Xmas party at the Bluesky Brewery Saturday night and we are staying at Mantra Trilogy on the esplanade. I won't have any clubs with me in Cairns but would need to swing by my place in Port Douglas to pick up on the way through (carry bag only).

Haysey & I are working on it. We may have to take 2 cars as that would make 5 people & 4 sets of clubs.

Well given the forecast next week is for the monsoon to move south and dump on us, perhaps we are best off playing Mareeba on the Saturday as it could be slop and muck at Cairns. I've never recalled Cairns GC draining well during the wet.

But I'm easy. I'm the outsider in this, so am happy to go with the flow. If the consensus is to play at Mareeba Sunday, then I'll be at Cairns at 11.30am on the Saturday.

Cracking match, Brett just couldn't make Cookie go away. Should have gone back down the 10th:D

Cookie was literally the turd that would not flush. A 5 marker against a 19 marker who plays like a 15 marker is tough!! Great finish, haysey and I were expecting his awesome 7 iron into 18 to finish within a couple of feet, except adrenalin kicked in and bounded over the back. From dormie 2 to square after 18, I'm glad it didn't go down the 10th.

Look forward to the next match against Courty.

A suggestion Courty. Can you perhaps shade the matches that have been completed ?

Smart fella like you should be able to handle that.

As opposed to displaying the results of each completed match? :-k

Courty, that's much better. Makes it easier to see at a glance where we're up to. Especially later on if things get a bit out of whack. Do we have to play these in order ?

Have to agree with Big Bird. That green is a bit garish. How about a nice pastel blue.

Cookie is my favourite for the title.

One day (getting closer) it is all going to click for him and he will wipe the floor against whoever he is playing against.

Hopefully it won't be me

I disagree, I reckon he's too mentally fragile. Of course, it's very easy to sledge him when doesn't post here.

I agree about cookie, but it is good to get inside his head isn't it. just to mentally bash him is sooooo good.
Can anyone tell me how many more strokes I need to loose so I can get some more shots start to make it fair for me. Haven't won something for a while. Be nice to go out to around 25 i reckon.
Courty going on about gay....coming from a man who wears a huge sweatband.

Speaking from first-hand experience (I was there for your 47pts), you need to lose about 10 shots. ;)

That's pretty rich coming from a guy who carries a man-bag.

I must say though, that was the first time I've actually used a sweatband at golf.
