After making a few swing changes and going to the gym I have noticed that I am hitting the ball a lot further than I ever did. Previously mentioned that I was dubbed "gorilla girl" by one of my playing partners.

I know that the guys have posted their averages but hadn't looked up womens before. I got this chart from Womens Golf Victoria website and I'm amazed how low they are.

1 wood160 metres
3 wood 140 metres
5 wood 120 metres
7 wood100 metres
3 iron120 metres
4 iron110 metres
5 iron100 metres
6 iron 90 metres
7 iron80 metres
8 iron70 metres
9 iron 60 metres
Pitching Wedge (PW)50 metres
Sand Wedge (SW)40 metres

I hit my 5 wood 150 +, 7 iron 120m and 9 iron 100m.
I think that the chart must be for very high handicappers. I can't believe that at my age and playing for relatively a short time that I am that much longer. Shazza - I know that you are a big hitter. What are your stats?

I know that I am longer off the tee than most women of a similar handicap - for example during pennant. But of course I have no idea what they use around the course and you can't ask.

Of course it doesn't mean a lot - who cares what you use as long as you hit the green but of course a 7 iron into a green is a lot easier to hit than a 3 iron.

So does that mean that I really should be scoring a lot better than I am if I have that advantage of extra length?

I'm not really sure what my distances are as they seem to change week in week out.

I go off the following:

Driver - averages 180-190
5 wood - 150+
8 iron - 100

I lose a bit of distance with my irons because they are too stiff.... but i went for the too stiff option to minimise dispersion of approach shots.

In all honesty, unless the course is short i'm rarely hitting my irons anyway. I think i could probably count on one hand the amount of times i need to hit an iron (mostly par 3's). Maybe thats why my par 3 stats are soooooo shite :)

Reenie - that sounds about right to me - if you look at the distribution of handicaps - I think the avg WGA handicap is around 25-30.

I hit driver about 150-170, 5i 115m, 7i 95m. Don't really have a f/w wood distance as I hit my 5w really badly!

Apologies in advance but I hear anything more than 9 inches is a struggle

Hate to be pedantic... thread title is Average distances for women, not Distances for average women.

Michelle Wie is a woman and her average distance is 250m

Thank you, I'm here all week, try the veal.

(and yes I do compare myself to Tiger - badly of course... )

I've caddied for some of the A-Game and QAS girls and they're typically in the low-200's. Most of them hit a draw with plenty of roll so I would say they'd be carrying it 180-190m but mostly they were finishing up around the 220-230m mark.

With their irons, they were typically only one club shorter than me, ie.

PW-100
9 - 110
8 - 120
7 - 130
6 - 140
5 - 150+

Which isn't really what FG was comparing to! Yes we can argue on semantics but she meant club distances for the average female handicap.

Smart arse:mrgreen: You are right you know but you'll never get me to admit that.

What I should have said was "what are the distances that the average feamale - no I mean - what distances does the feamle on an average - no I mean -:shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock:

And thanks Dion - those distances give me something to aspire to.
