I'll chuck a couple of my favourite four word film reviews www.fwfr.com for each one too

Comedy - This is Spinal Tap - 11 out of 10 / Dumb and drummers / Hugeness of Stonehenge understated

Action - LOTR trilogy - Hobbit gains elf-respect / Tyler plays arrowsmith's daughter / Orcland, New Zealand.

Drama - The Shawshank Redemption - Raquel's arse hides hole / Morgan Freedman, eventually / Convict's shitty plan works!

Thriller- Se7en - Gwyneth reluctantly gives head / SINister Spacey sends F-HEAD-EX. / 10se but pre10tious (un4tun8ly).

Family - The Princess Bride - Columbo's tallest story yet / Witty wordplay, shitty swordplay / Old Falk's tale / Fingers go to 11

Musical - Grease - Become slut, get guy / Kenicke knervous about knewborn / Extremely old teenagers sing

Sports - Field of Dreams - Everybody loves Ray's mound / Catcher in rye field / Baseball Hall of Farm.

I may have to stick to movies that I own...

Big fan of Akira Kurosawa - have to say either Seven Samurai or Ran would have to be in the top 5 of best movies ever

PeteyD
5th October 2008, 02:26 PM
Ran is definately great. Probably about time to watch it again.

Ford Fairlane is pretty stupidly funny, nothing like Ed O'Neil singing Booty Time, Booty Time, across the USA. Doesn't beat Life of Brian though.

The Program is one of the better sports movies around.

Action - The Terminator
Thriller - Alien

Watched a new flick called 'Taken (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0936501/)' the other night with Liam Neeson in the lead role. He's sort of an unexpected casting for this part, but turns out to be an excellent choice. The story is pretty good, too.

Bit of a sleeper this one was. Kind of just turned up, and is one of the best movies this year so far! Written and produced by Luc Besson (The Professional, Fifth Element, The Transporters movies) and I really like his style. Had that european produced feel about it.

I like the work he does with the nails!!

This should be in the upcoming movies thread shouldn't it - but of course Taken is probably gone from the cinemas by now. I made mention of it in that thread a couple of months ago. I did say sleeper.

Delirious has to be the greatest stand up comedy of all time.

My personal favorite movies - Snatch, closely followed by Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

While not the best sports movie ever, I'll always sit down and watch The Rookie (the Dennis Quaid movie based on the true story about the high school coach who ends up pitching in the majors).

TNO, I think you need to get new mates. The Princess Bride is all sorts of awesome! I give it 6 fingers out of 5! (That's my little nod to Christopher Guest. He's the 6 fingered Count Rugen in TPB, and Nigel Tufnell whose amps go to 11 in Spinal Tap.)

The departed was crap compared to the original Asian version. It was called 'Infernal Affairs'. Worth the watch if you can find it.

I'll be quoting this, i've been giving it to them for 6 months now. One guy can't find it in the local video store and is too soft to ask the sexy counter chick where it might be.

Really?
I watched it with the kids today. Maybe not a classic, but it was definitely enjoyable with plenty of laughs in there for the adults.

That's "The Usual Suspects" (ruined by Virge), "Blade Runner" (meh) and "The Princess Bride" done. Next up is the Godfather (1972! I have my doubts that it will age well), and Eddie Murphy's Delirious.

Godfather will be fine as it's mostly drama and isn't reliant on special effects, unlike most old sci fi's. Great movie.

I think the Godfather was also remastered into HD for the DVD releases.
