Hi everybody,

Charlotte Hope Westaway arrived at 11:35am today. 8lb 13oz (4.01kg), 54.5cm long, 36cm head circumference.

Went to the hospital at 4:20 this morning, things went to poo at about 10:30 (let's just say pethidene was not our friend) and got progressively worse over the next 1/2 hour - reduced baby heartbeat, very physically distressed mother - so bubby was delivered by emergency caeserean shortly after. (I stayed up at Alaina's end of the bed for the surgery, rather than the baby's end of the bed. It was a bit too scary and real for me.)

After spending the best part of a couple of hours in recovery, we finally got to tell Isabelle and Caitlin, who had been picked up by Alaina's mum from school at lunch time. They were so excited they got dressed up in pink and went back to school to tell all their friends, friends' parents, teachers etc before school holidays started!

Charlotte is absolutely gorgeous. Definitely the spitting image of her two big sisters. Photos to come later.

I am so in awe of my wife! However, courtesy of today's events, I think Alaina is definitely done with 3 wonderful girls.

It's been a very long day (have had 2 round trips into the Mater from Caboolture) and it's definitely bed time.

(And the Cats beat the Doggies, and I've been given a leave pass for a game tomorrow morning!)

congrats westie! i did the same thing during my wife's c-section when our twins were born. if it was someone else's wife, it would have been neat to see. however, i could not handle seeing my wife in that situation.

Thanks folks. The enormity of what went on when it went sour hit me this morning. Without medical intervention it would have been one of those 1800s cases of "died in childbirth", and so I'm feeling very blessed to have my wife and daughter full stop.

Can someone please remind me of this if I bitch about feeling sleep deprived at some stage in the future.

Upcoming challenges given the caesar - stopping Alaina from coming home too early; stopping Alaina from trying to do too much, too soon, letting Alaina know it's not a sin to relax, helping Alaina everywhere I can given she's not allowed to drive for 6 weeks - and that much of family is elsewhere around Australia.

This makes me feel even more blessed. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,24374927-23109,00.html

Congratulations.

Looks like you've got the associate fourball organised, so you'll have to play golf with your mates instead.

See Rusty, having a kid doesn't necessarily cramp your style. Don't know how much I'll be playing the next few weeks though seeing as Alaina isn't allowed to drive, lift anything etc.
