New member here just introducing myself..
Former golf pro who is currently waiting reinstatement as an amateur. Have been a member of the PGA since '97 and finished my membership this year. I haven't played competitively since '05.
Looking to get back into the game a bit on a more social / weekend hack sort of basis.
Hopefully I can add something to the community.
Cheers

No worries, have a mate who is a pro up here and he just did the NSW pro am circuit. It got to much work for him to keep having to qualify and now he has settled as a club pro. Not sure how much he plays nowadays.

Yeah it gets like that.. I had similar options but decided to go down a totally different path.
I now work as an Electrical Engineer. No intentions of playing / working as a pro anymore.

The signature might help answer that.
Welcome MT. We've got a few members in Melbourne that you should be able to organise a social hack with.

It appears it will be 2 years mate, I haven't heard formally yet, however this seems to be the norm for someone who was professional for the period of time I was.

I guess that rules you out of an elite amateur event like the Ozgolf Champs.

SMS got his amateur status back because the R&A deemed that he was no threat to any amateur silverware

18 months (circa 1999). It used to be an automatic 2 year holiday (for up to 2 years PGA membership), and they changed it to 1 year mid way through my second year.

You a member anywhere MT?
not at the moment mate..
Moving to NSW early next year where I hope to join Newcastle or Belmont something along those lines.
To regain amateur status now it is basically like this:
Member of PGA < 5 years = 1 year wait
Member of PGA > 5 years = 2 year wait.

Welcome MT.
Check out the 1st tee forums to see the Champs arrangements for November. Feel free to come & join us, regardless of your status (we don't pay any attention to tin-pot organisations like the PGA ;)).
