Grunt

Hi All

Who is keen to have a game on the Monday after the champs?

Bruce, Pete, Shazza & I played there last year with that little bloke that is no longer here (forgot his name). Was good and maybe Paul (from caz&paul) can get as many as we need spots. He was starter last year.

Grunt

Hey guys

I played with a guy today who told me his son who is a GC Burleigh Member told him that they will not play there for a few months as they have lost their greens. He was due to go up there in a few weeks time.

Anyone know any more of this?

If correct, What other options do we have on the GC?

Jarro
27th October 2008, 03:36 PM
Go play Hope Island 8)

PeteyD
27th October 2008, 03:47 PM
not many courses on the goldie to try ...

Grunt
27th October 2008, 04:02 PM
The guy also added the super was sacked. any truth to that?

Grunt
27th October 2008, 04:16 PM
No worries, thanks G69. You know how stories get bigger as they go down the tree.

So they have done an aggressive reno and at the same time the Super left. Story then turns into Greens are dead and the Super got sacked.
In that we are relatively safe of a game there Monday Week?

peter_rs
27th October 2008, 07:17 PM
so can you get us on cheap?

markTHEblake
27th October 2008, 07:43 PM
So they have done an aggressive reno and at the same time the Super left.

He was sacked, or told to resign, or fell on the sword - same thing innit :-)

My info is from a bloke in the who distributes products to greenkeepers. Was talking about this a couple weeks ago.

The greens were treated with a new product marketed heavily by a competitor and this particular bloke strongly recommended they dont use that stuff, whatever it was.

From memory the superintendent at Burleigh didnt last 2 weeks after the treatment, and he had been there for a long time, that shows how badly they came up I guess

Grunt
30th October 2008, 07:21 PM
So is that all we have for this?

Bruce & Swanny are you in for it?

Will we have to book it soon? Who booked it last year?

Paul are you still working in the pro shop?

Courty
30th October 2008, 08:28 PM
I'm in for this still. I was hoping we could steer in the direction of The Glades or Hope Island.

peter_rs
30th October 2008, 08:36 PM
If we did glades would that get anyone else?

Grunt
30th October 2008, 08:52 PM
How much would we be up for for those courses?

AndyP
30th October 2008, 09:31 PM
I will have used up my quota of golf rounds for the month by this stage sorry, even though I am on leave for the week.

Grunt
31st October 2008, 05:34 AM
I would prefer the GC Burleigh Option myself as the funds will be starting to dry up at that stage and another $100 would be too much.

Jarro
31st October 2008, 05:55 AM
As long as you're up here grunt you should really try and get a game in at Hope Island ....

.. it's the best track around

Courty
31st October 2008, 05:57 AM
My line of thinking is that I don't get the opportunity to play all these good courses very often, so I'll pay whatever I have to while I do have the chance.

I may indeed play Hope Island but I have played The Glades before so if it were out of the 2 of them I would prefer Hope Island. Someone make a decision and lets see what we get then.

I think this is the list of who is interested.

Play Robina Woods instead. Top 100 course, and more affordable (especially if a mega member plays with you).

peter_rs
31st October 2008, 07:58 AM
you are looking at

$115 hope Island
$100 Glades
$60 Robina
$40 GB

G69 or shavey could you get us on a hope Island cheaper?

swanny

I m for Robina or hope island my thoughts are the same as courts I dont get up there very often so would like to play one of top courses.

shazza_rs

I think Robina is shit! And if we play there I won't be tagging along.

Grunt
31st October 2008, 01:58 PM
Sorry I might play Hope Island another time. As I said earlier funds will be minimal and there will be a next time. I vote got GC Burleigh.

peter_rs
31st October 2008, 03:13 PM
G69 anything on price?

Grunt ->GC Burleigh.
Courty ->?

Bruce ->?
Swanny ->?

Grunt
31st October 2008, 03:25 PM
If we go for one of the pricey courses can the decision be made before Tuesday next week. I may go and buy one of those Golf Course guide and see what discount it will offer. I have looked in some old ones I have and Hope Island was $120 with a cart, GPS and a gift pack. The Glades was $110 with Cart, Guide and Divot tool.

Players with course in order of preference.

Grunt ->GC Burleigh, Hope Island, The Glades
Courty ->?
Shazza rs ->Hope Island, Glades, GC Burleigh, Robina
Peter rs ->Hope Island, Glades, GC Burleigh, Robina

I would prefer something other than Burleigh - only because we played there last year and I am keen to try somewhere else.

But I will play with whatever the ozgolf game is for that day.

peter_rs
31st October 2008, 03:58 PM

Just got the PM from Peter_RS

No deals at Hope as I don't know anybody there anymore. Could probably do something for you at The Glades, Robina, Colonial or Lakelands. Nearly all these courses just hosted the Mitsubishi Masters so apart from the divots, should be in pretty good nick.

I also saw Royal Pines promoting a 2 for 1 offer sometime but not sure of the details.

Courty
31st October 2008, 09:41 PM
I can only play in the morning. I have a plane to catch on Monday arve (from Brisbane).
You guys take the deal if you wish, I'll play somewhere else in the morning.

peter_rs
1st November 2008, 09:21 AM
Its okay courty, we'll look elsewhere, as we'd rather play with ozgolfers when we get the chance.

Thanks to G69 for his efforts in getting us a good rate. Sorry can't use them.

AndyP
1st November 2008, 09:26 AM

peter_rs

Guys any objections to Lakelands? If we can get a early game.

What time are peoples flights?

Grunt
2nd November 2008, 04:37 PM
I will go for Lakelands

Bruce
2nd November 2008, 08:39 PM
We can do that. Swanny and I fly out at 19:20 so most tee times should suit.

Courty
2nd November 2008, 09:30 PM
I depart BNE at 4:40pm, but obviously I need to allow for travel time (public transport, no less).

However, if my back doesn't improve, I may not play at all on Monday yet. I guess it will depend if I can get through the previous 3 days.

peter_rs
3rd November 2008, 07:49 AM
hope the back holds up..... on the plus your in carts.

G69 do you know what time the industry day starts?

Colonial could be a option?

or we just say the hell with it a do hope island.

Grunt
3rd November 2008, 11:38 AM
I bought the Golf Guide today

Courses with Deals in it are as follows
Colonial $75
Robina $90
Lakelands 4 for the Price of 3
Hope Island No Deal
Palm Meadows $92
Sanctuary Cove $95 4 for the price of 3 (palms course)

Most of the discounts are more than the price of the guide too. It was only $22 with Drummond discount.

3rd November 2008, 12:21 PM
Nothing doing at RPR from what I can tell. Was only on whilst the Mitsubishi Masters was on.

I'd say bite the bullet and play Hope whilst you still can... And it's very busy still as well so get in quick...

if it helps, I played Hope Island last week and it's in good nik. It's a fun course, especially from the plates! All the greens fees are getting up there, but I'd say Hope Island is worth the bit extra over the other 3.

AndyP
3rd November 2008, 02:09 PM
Bribe a Mega member to play with you and it would reduce the fees on two of the courses.

If golflink has to be the way to book Hope Is I will have to say I prefer the other options as after tonight I will have limited if any web access so booking a golflink game is hard.
Lets go with somewhere all we need to do is book 2 groups and pay on the day. I will leave it up to you guys to decide over the next few days and then we shall play some where on Monday.

AndyP
4th November 2008, 10:00 AM
Decision made for us. Robina is out until 1:15p because of a shotgun start (the greenskeeper's day 69er mentioned). So Colonial is booked for 8:07a and 8:15a. $45 is the cost.

how did we get to a rate of $45 AP are the greens done? or is it +cart?

AndyP
4th November 2008, 10:55 AM
Because I'm a legend. And it's with carts.

That's the Mega Member rate for Mon-Thu, and I can bring unlimited "friends" for that rate for all of November, December. That's why I thought $55 at Robina was a sweet deal.

4th November 2008, 03:40 PM
Sorry guys - only just saw this.

Burleigh's greens are a bit rough at the moment and we have 2 temporaries in play.

The stories doing the rounds are truly blown out of all proportion - stuff happens.

It is a pity as the new clubhouse has opened and is sensational - should the champs be up this way next year, the course (in my biased opinion) will again be one of the best on the Coast.

peter_rs
4th November 2008, 03:52 PM
When the greens improve you should arrange a open day there for ozgolfers later in the year, it is worth the drive from brisbane.

I'm yet to play there.

The first OZgolf day of the new OZgolf year has been played, and like the rest of the Champs weekend, the rain managed to hold off somehow (but not the bloody wind).

We ended up playing in a comp off the blue tees, which fortunately was a little bit of a reprieve from the length of Palmy, but not too much.

I don't recall all the scores, so the guys will have to list them, but Bruce took the front nine money, with Iain taking the back nine and overall (finishing with 23pts - even off the stick).

1. Iain - 39pts
2. Bruce - 32pts (?)
3. Shaz - 31pts (?)
4. AndyP - 30pts
5, 6, 7 - Swanny, Peter_rs, Grunt?
8. Courty - 25pts

Thanks for the round, guys. I had a blast (and seemed a bit more hypo than the weekends rounds). And I enjoyed the chat on the clubhouse balcony.

shazza_rs
10th November 2008, 09:03 PM

Oh almost forgot (bruce just reminded me)...... I'd like to make special mention of Swanny's driving efforts at Colonial. Iain and I had pulled up for the next tee then all of a sudden as we were just getting out we get slammed so hard from behind. Swanny slammed his foot on the brake but only to get his foot stuck between the brake and accelerator pedal.

And what did Swanny love bout the course the most??? Yep you guessed it.... the bunkers! I thought the old bloke that was diving for golf balls was gunna cop a wedge in the head there for a minute.

I don't see the problem. I got out of the bunkers just fine (including an U&D for bird on the par 5 (7th?))

Besides, bunkers are hazards. It's like complaining about your lie when you carve one a mile off the fairway. :p
