View Full Version : The best hybrid you've used

I've got a 22* that I want to replace. I've got a Rescue Dual 19*, so optimally looking for the same in a 22*. I know they are a hook machine, but perhaps it will suit this slice factory ;)

But at Easter I got my hands on a G5 22* (or was it 21?), and smashed it all day. It was a relatives club who wasn't keen on it, but being a recent birthday present didn't make it 'fair game' for a cash offer.

Some of you blokes have used all sorts (sometimes reverting back to a single brand/model) - if you had to nominate your #1 fave, what would it be?

Snake Eyes are the best Hybrids I have ever hit.

The current 22* is a Snake Eyes, and compared to the Rescue Dual the head feels super-light.

I have Burner and Adams A3 Boxer hybrids. Have also hit a few others.

I rate the Burner and A3 hybrids VERY highly. I have made the move to the Burner for the low CG to improve my launch. However, the Adams was a bit better off the tee. But the mid face height made it a little harder off the deck. If you are looking for a 22* Adams A3 regular shaft let me know...

Well I will have to admit, I have never used any other brand.

That's why I'd like to stick to a hybrid 3-iron! ;)

Only ever tried Nike CPR2 (22* mini-wood style), and it was great out of bad lies. Didn't perservere, as 7 wood was more consistent on par 3s and kikuyu fairways.

In June, picked up a superceded Cobra Baffler DWS (23*) from ball comp credit. Highly impressed with its versatility. Also gets good press in the side-by-side club comparisons in local and Pommie mags.

Now tossing up whether to search for its 20* brother, or a few Dr Frankenstien ideas with clubs lying in the hall closet.

I'm with terryand on this one!
I picked up a pair the other week- Nickent 3DX DC Utility 17° & 21° with Aldila NV 65 Stiff shafts.
Absolute weapons, both from the rough & off the fairway.

I've hit a heap, and yesterday I had some time to kill so I went to Drummond and hit a few more just for fun.

Of course my love for the Adams Idea Pro is documented. It's simply an awesome stick, but I quite liked the Ping G10 I hit yesterday - which also had an Aldila VS Proto in it.

Launched nice and high, was forgiving when I got a bit toey, as is my wont. Only downside was the head was larger than other hybrids.

It was similar to the Idea Pro in that it had a silver "topline" that I find gives a hybrid more of an iron appearance.

Others will surely disagreee, but the Titty 585 is a dog. Someone forgot to pass on the memo about hybrids replacing long irons but being easier to hit. Maybe that last bit in italics got chopped off the end of the fax, in any case it's no different to a 2 or 3 iron.

The Adams Idea Pro are very nice hybrid, I got couple of them. They are great if you are a hooker. They also hit the ball a bit lower than other hybrids. And if you are a fader, the TM may be a better fit.

I used the Nickent 3DX Ironwood for a while but got sick of searching the long stuff on the left and offloaded in favour of the aformentioned Idea Pro. It takes the left out of play for me.

BrisVegas

contrary to what scottt reckons (and hey, isn't that what life is all about!) I find my 585H easier to hit than a 2 iron. Off a nice lie, there isn't much in it, but if it's sitting in the rough, then the hybrid is miles easier.

Scottt

Drummond at Camperdown needs to grow some rough so the hybrids can be properly tested. Maybe a little fairway trap as well...

That's not asking too much is it?

I just don't like the fact that they take away the option of hitting a low stinger.

I love my Nickent 20 degree ironwood. I am a decent hooker of the ball, but I never seem to go left with the ball. (unless you are a lefty and it's a slice)

Yeah, I have a 15 degree 3dx utility, and it is very nice off the fairway, but it does seem to have a very high trajectory. I am assuming it's the Aldila shaft?

Regardless, it was an absolute steal at less than $40 brand new.

So far I'm intrigued.

There are Burners around on eBay fairly cheap, and guess what - they are stamped "NWRNTY"!

Very interested to see so much love for the Adams and the Nickent.

I just handle Titty's after 69 mentioned that he and Dion and all over them... or was that each others?

Therev are a couple of Adams Idea Pro hybrids in the pro shop here that didn't appear to sell. Maybe search them?

I didn't like the 3dx. The Idea Pros are good. But still the burner, and the Tour Burner have been the best for me. I have a long list of ones I didn't like!

recently did the search on a new hybrid myself as i wasn't happy with my callaway X.
I tried out the G10, Adams A3 & A3OS, Adams Idea Pro, Cobra DWS & Nickent 3dx.
Went with the Adams A3OS veeerrrrryyy long and stupid easy to hit, can still get some shape on the ball and for $160 new retail in Perth, I couldn't argue with the price.

More of a players hybrid Virge. I think Sonartec are awesome clubs, I had an MD once... long and straight in the right hands. But for mid and high handicappers they lack the forgiveness.

With you - but I find all the Hybrids you mention just utter hook machines... and good shots don't have any penetration.

All a matter of Opinion though...
