Trying to find a decent bit off turf to hit balls from around the Camberwell/Surrey Hills - 20mins east of Melbourne. I dont have a clue whats around so if anyone can give us a heads up that's be good. Just looking for somewhere with a decent driving range that i dont have to be a member to hit at....

MGA is not east melb and it doesn't have a turf area.... except for the short game area.

Try Kingston Links (http://www.kingstonlinks.com.au/html/locationmap.htm)

Maroondah (http://www.maroondahgolf.com.au/content.asp?pid=3989) has a grassed area

Morack (http://www.morackoncoursegolf.com.au/morack/index.htm) may have a grassed area - not sure

I'm sorry - I thought the brief was for close to Camberwell. But if you want him to drive 40 minutes to Belgrave then sure, choose Maroondah.

I was working on the "turf" part. I don't believe MGA has a turf area to hit off?

That setup and not grass to hit off... how dissapointing.... Bloke at work suggested Yarra Bend, so 'll check that out tomorrow. Cheers all.

If you live in Surrey Hills, then Yarra Bend's definitely worth checking out. An unpretentious, public course, though the driving range area is crap.

The other one I'd try is Freeway in Camberwell, which should be only about 10-15 minutes away.

They're setting up a new driving range

...and for a public course it can be quite entertaining.

I enjoy playing at freeway, but where is the driving range? if you mean that area with the elevated tee as you enter on the left i dont think its long enough to be a proper driving range
