Drive for show, putt for dough, Keza_G.

I haven't actually been to one, mate. But we have our own little long drive show, whenever we have our events re Nudgee, Iain.

Welcome to OZgolf.

Hey Keza_G - if you are who I think you are, congrats on making the top 16 at the World Champs! =D>

It sounds like heaps of fun - but I'm not sure I would be any good - 160cm and only 40kg with my drives only going 160m-170m right now. Do they run weight divisions

How did you get started? At one of Tony's clinics?

Welcome to Ozgolf.net Keza_G.

Never really thought much about Long Drive comps. Although I have no doubt that everyones loves to hit a good drive....

But if you love 'em, then more power to you.

Welcome aboard Keza_G. 8) Can't wait to see you belt some long drives out there! :)

What driver do you use? Is it a specialist long drive comp club, or do you use it for normal play as well?

There are a couple of big hitters on this forum (esp. Nudgee) and a few of us can get it out there over 300 sometimes. It'll be interesting to see what techniques you use to max out the distance. Again, welcome aboard! Hope you enjoy this forum. 8)

I dont think so Mini Wie. Would have loved to have seen a weight to distance ratio contest, i reckon in my 20's I would have been unbeatable. Unfortunately age has wearied me now.

Dont lose heart as I said before MiHyun Kim is only 153cm and 47kg which makes her a tad shorter and a bit heavier than you. I saw her once on the telly reach a 480m par 5 in 2, and did it easy. But your more likely to generate more clubhead speed with a bigger arc than body weight. If you get the right combinations of Levers you too can generate as much clubhead speed as anyone else, and you can stay off the hamburger diet.

O.K. at least that's been cleared up - on "the other site" you said you were 180cm - and I thought wow - that's pretty tall!!! 160cm seems more like it  And I wouldn't knock 160-170m drives. Most the ladies I play with would love to hit that far.

Welcome aboard to Keza G---------enjoy the ride!!! :D

Ok People.....

here are some specs for you lot

SMT Spectrum 6 degree with Accuflex Pro LD XX Stiff 50" Favourite driver
SMT Spectrum 8 degree with Accuflex Pro LD XX Stiff 49" 2nd Fav.
SMT Spectrum 8 degree with Accuflex VS 339 X Stiff 48"
SMT Nemesis 9 degree with Accuflex VS 339 X stiff 48"
Taylor Made Rac LT irons 2 to PW
Ben Hogan 52 degree Sand Iron
Ping Craze putter
Titleist Pro V1 Balls
Handicap : 8.2.... aiming for 5 or less by Feb 2005
171cm tall and none of your business what I weigh.......(it's a girl thing)

I have 4 drivers, all set up for different weather conditions... 6* for wind into you, 8* for no wind, 9* for wind with you. I finished 16th at World titles in USA in Oct 2004 and am current Australian Ladies Champ.

I'm going to try and get back to the US next year, I have to win National Title again next year. Lateley have been on a downer after World Titles, next years Australian Tour starts around Feb 2005... so am only hitting around 280m mark. My longest unofficial is 325m but my official logest is 268m. That grid get's awfully small somedays....

hope this satisfies all..

Cheers

Awesome! That driver sounds like a beast. You must have great technique to control such a long shaft.

Hope to have a game with you sometime soon. Not that I'm gonna enjoy being out-hit by a girl, 6 inches shorter than me.  It was bad enough when Jono did it.

Congratulations on your Australian and World success! 8)

Welcome aboard Keza_G. It's fantastic to have you here. I'm sure many of us here would be interested in how you first became interested in long-driving and then how you moved heavily into it. It's not an aspect of golf that many of us have been introduced to in aus, but it is getting more exposure now. I'm reading more and more about it in various golf mags now.

And I'm a firm believer in drive for dough and putt for dough. I'm off 11 and barely manage 4/15 fairways a round. I've even managed to play nine holes 3 over with no fairways at all, so to me my driving has to become a money shot.

Any insight into your training, what the comps are really like etc would be cool.

By the way, I'm a powder puff with the driver so it won't be anything I can see myself getting into.

Oh Oh! I told you not to do that......

You've gone and got them all excited now.

The important question is, what colour shirt do you wear when you want to get extra distance, Would'nt happen to be Purple would it?
(purple is the rage around here at the moment)

I'm always happy to answer any questions about Long driving as long as I don't have to divulge any of my deepest darkest Long driving secrets.... :P

For me Long driving has always been an obsession, I have always hit the ball along way and for me this is just the next progression... It's like moving onto becoming a pro once you've ben a scratch marker..

I now hope that I can live up to all the expectations..... gee whiz... You know what.... you lot are the nicest bunch of troopers I have come across.... :smt023 :smt060 I've been to a few Forums and I think it's because y'all are Aussies and actually do enjoy playing and talking golf... I'd love to eventually meet you all and show ya what I can do.... maybe we could organise somethin'...

Thank you all for being so kind and so welcoming.... I like this family....

There's plenty of games floating around. Sometimes 20 or even 30 are turning up for them. The often hit the driving range before teeing off. If you ever get the chance to come along you can show us how driving is really done. You'd probably show us how to play on the course as well.

Most forums are made up of really nice persons who put on an arsehole personality when they are online.

We are the opposite here. In real life we're all axe murderers.

Ok so...... I use the 6* Spectrum XX 50" on the course..... played with it today and shot 9 over..... stoopid putter....

If y'all are axe murderers, I reckon I'd still think you would be all fun to play golf with....

So when and where do y'all get together and play ??

Welcome Keza_G. A Queenslander just for a change!! :D (If you haven't figured it out by now, there are tons of us on here)

Would love to have you at one of our games real soon. That's some serious equipment you've got there. A lot of the LD folks who play SMT have really fallen in love with the Spectrum. A few of our guys here play SMT, but I don't think any of them hit it as far as you.

You couldn't possibly play off the red tees could you? It's like giving Ian Thorpe a lap headstart in a 200m race. :P

Looking forward to more of your postings.

Again, welcome to the ozgolf family.

You've just missed the big Northlakes round. :(

But never fear, there's always little rounds happening in Brissy or surrounding areas. Just keep an eye out in the 1st Tee topic for games coming up.

Looks like there may be a biggun coming up at Lakelands in Jan.

Ok so...... I use the 6* Spectrum XX 50" on the course.....

Is that legal? thought length is restricted to 45ish or is that one of those rules being phased in.

McMw
17th November 2004, 09:46 PM
it's 47inch for the driver under (club) comp rules, but I believe that there have seperate eqt rulings for the Long Drive Competition...

Keza_G
17th November 2004, 09:55 PM
Well in Normal golf the measurement is from the where the shaft comes out from the Hosel to the butt end...... regulations are now 48"....

In long Drive we stand the club against a wall and measure from the ground to the butt.... regulations are now at 50"... therefore my drivers are measured the Long Drive way at 50" so technically normal golf way they are 48".... give or take a quarter of an inch or so. So I'm not really holding a shaft that longish..... and yes I can control a shaft that long, ask my husband.............

The warm welcome is amazing, thank you.
" Hav'in Fun Smashing Balls" is about it. Just love launching them sweet and love watching other people doing it to, I'm also facinated with the science behind it all. I found my nitch in long drive, I suppose my golf game was to aggressive and I did'nt know when to pull up and be smart. ( still love playing).
Thanks for asking.

All the time, Roc.. Sometimes with just a few of us, sometimes a lot more.
Most games tend to be based in Brisbane or Sydney, but we have a few Gold Coast members now, as well.

We organise our games in the 1st Tee area. The next big one is at Ocean Shores on New Years Eve. Should be great, hope you can make it.

Correction, there's tomorrow at Fox Hills, Tuesday's double-header, and 12 of us convening at Bayview on December 12!

All Sydney events, but 'BIG' nonetheless. :D

Last time we had a Fox Hills day we met Mark Bylsma, who unfortunately (for him, not for you ;)) had a pretty poor Long Drive season recently.
