Ventured down the coast this morning to play Calderwood Valley Golf Course. Nice little track, is short though. Being my first time I played driver on a few holes where it was not the correct club and ended up hitting through the fairway on dog legs. Greens were very slick indeed and I could not get any idea with the pace of them. I had a 3 putt par on one of the par 5's:oops:. Will definitely go back there for another hit.

Do they have comps there now Grant?

It's the kind of place you can go low if you play well and hit the big dog well.

I had a four-putt bogey on the first when I played there!!

Ashlar today for me.

Holy shit... I just worked out I didn't hit a single bloody green
2/3 sand saves
6/15 up and downs

But still had a great time.

Did not ask about comps but it does look very social club oriented.

They even have a Dormie house on-site, which is pretty cheap.

Were there shitloads of sandfly-like things hanging around the first and fourth holes? They were horrific when I was there last September.

played today with scottt and virge. Great day for golf, great company and a hell of alot of good laughs and good shots.

I, as usual, swung the club great, which was nice after having a few weeks, if not a month off. Felt great, just didnt have the short game at all, however the roll on the ball was nice. also, hitting to the right green sometimes helps.

Stats wise, approx:

5 effective tee shots

8 greens

putts, id say 40, but might be more or less

25 points i think.

Played Bexley again this morning, another great round. The round had everything in it, 4 pars, 2 birdies:lol:, a chip in.
Actually played smart golf, something that I don't normally put together. Only used Driver off the tee twice for 2 fairways from 2. Used 4i a lot and it worked well. Really like the track at Bexley and if I were to join a Sydney club again this would be the one.

Was in second place in both the individual and 2B when I left the clubhouse after the round. This result could see me lose another shot and be back down at 16:lol:

Played at the Bay for the first time in a long while this morning. Didn't expect too much, but hit the ball quite nicely, never really getting in any trouble. Had 39-40 for a 79/68.

Monthly medal today, in wet conditions. 83 gross for 75 nett. I actually walked 18 for the first time ever at Brookwater (it was cart path only and I think walking was actually quicker).

I had a couple of triple bogey trainwrecks, but played the rest pretty well for a change. I lipped out an ace on the 14th (but won the NTP with 4 inches.) and hit some really nice iron shots. 3 x 3-putts and plenty of terrible missed putts. I came 2nd overall!

Stab at Mirboo and the semi final of the President's cup.

36 points.

Lost on the 20th. :(

I was up dormie 2 and then he went birdie, birdie, par, birdie. I guess that's why he is the reigning club champ.
I will see the 30 footer he drained on 18, my lip out for half (and the match) on 18, his miracle 2nd from the ladies tee box on the second on the 19th and my lipout for par on the 20th in nightmares tonight.
I was happy with the way I played today but he just dropped the hammer on me at the end and I did have a chance to seal it. It was fun and I am pretty proud of my efforts over the last 3 weeks.

It goes without saying I love my new Karsten Anser 2!!

First round for several weeks today for a tidy 33 pts.

Wiped the first with a messy 3 putt, and was 3 points down after 5 holes (2nd wipe). I think had the odd 3-pointer, quickly followed by the odd 1-pointer - and a crapload of 2 pointers. The greens were as good as they get around my course, and 33 putts doesn't do it justice, I had a long first putt on most holes.

The annoying part was the 17th. Climbed all over a 7-iron from the tee which was on target the whole way. With a slightly elevated you can't see where the ball comes to rest, but it looked close. We got to the green and counted all but 1 ball, and mine was nowhere to be seen.... so I had to check the hole.......... nothing.

Turns out it was plugged deep into the bank at the back! Free drop, but what had the crowd believing could have been a Hole In One turned about to be a tame 4/1.

34 points at Albury yesterday. Dropped a bunch of shots in the early-mid holes, but played solidly through the turn and round the back. Played with a demo 6 iron in the bag (Wilson Ci-7) - it was very, very good. May see a purchase in my future....

WTF? How do you be in 2nd place with a nett 61? You would have a noose around your neck at most clubs I know...... Nice shooting, though.

EDIT: Sorry - just re-read. 61 nett is 39 points? Is it a putt-putt course? :)

Oz, we'll have to give you a guided tour of the short courses of Sydney sometime. Bexley is par 64, Scottt's home course of Bardwell Valley is 62, and Fishman Dan's home of Gordon is 65. All of them aren't as bad as they sound, and can be quite a good test of your short game.

As for me, my 31 points today wasn't as bad as the score suggests. Twice I was buried in bunkers, only to hack it out and 3putt, and I got penalised for every marginal shot I played. I hit the ball OK, but not quite where I wanted to hit it.

We had a Weather Delay today, and fortunately we were at halfway when the siren went off. Unlike other parts of Sydney we didn't get ice/snow/hail, but the temperature dropped 8 degrees from before the storm to after.

As I couldn't play yesterday, I jumped in the single stab comp this afternoon in sublime conditions. I felt like I hit it like a busted arse, but still managed to go around for 35 pts. I had a wipe and a few 1 pters in all that lot too. My game needs a lot of work before the 54 hole City of Cairns in a fortnight. :?

Sydney has some great short courses.

North Ryde is another one. Par 64, I think.
I also quite enjoy Northbridge for a short course, it's 65 from memory.

Jeckyl and Hyde weekend for me with a Saturday shocker in the Monthly Medal having 82/77. Show up yesterday and its a 4ball there was only 3 of us so being the low marker I double up. I had 51 points with one fella and 49 with the other. Picked up a winner and runner-up ;) . Had a 68 off the bat......... If only I had hit it like that on Saturday.

I am sure they are good... I've just never played anything less than a Par 70. Is it a lack of par 5's, or addiitonal par 3's that makes the difference?

Depends on the track.

Bardwell Valley has 10 par threes (117-199m) and eight par fours (260m-374m).

Six holes have water in play, another three have thick bush abutting greens or fairways, and the greens range from 8m x 6m on a short par four to about 42m x 15m on the next hole, a 140m uphill par three.

The short par gours generally feature uneven driving zones or water and bunkers at the driving zone, so it's not just a matter of smashing driver then flipping a sand wedge close.

I find it a good test of golf.

Some have a par five or two (I think North Ryde has two).

Some of the best courses in the word are below a par of 70 (like Swinley Forest in England).

Hadn't played a comp for about 3 weeks , played stab yesterday West course Keperra - 18 pts front and 20 pts back for 38 - really felt like it was not much of a round - lots of scrambling, but I had a par par birdie finish for 10 points which made it look better than it really was I think..........lost another .4 off the hcap - target 18 still the go

27/07/2008, Colonial GC, Social.

Score 44-45-89 nett 78 (Par 37-36-73)

A couple of messy drives found the drink, but I found more greens than usual. Putting was a bit of a struggle.

Fortunately, I did enough to make sure I didn't buy the drinks.
