View Full Version : British Open Tipping

Grunt
15th July 2008, 07:37 AM
Are we going to have another Tipping comp for this Open too? The winners of the past 2 should be the 1st ones in as they have the cash to spare.

Field should be finalised now.

http://www.opengolf.com/ChampionshipGolf/TheOpenChampionship/Players/EntryList.aspx

Rules are the same as for The Masters

Rules
* 5 picks (max. 2 from current top 10)
* Selections need to be posted in this thread by 12.00pm Sydney time on Thursday July 17th.
* Winner will be decided on greatest accumulation of prize money for The Open from the 5 selected players (in the unlikely event that more than one Ozgolfer has the most accumulated prize money at the end of the the prize pool will be shared)
* If a player withdraws from the field before tee off on day #1, the 1st emergency will be substituted for all Ozgolf entries with that withdrawn player.
* Any player who withdraws from the event after the tournament starts (ie. after day 1 begins) no substitutes are allowed ...tough t!tt!es.

Prize Pool
Each player who commits to participating in the event is obliged to pay $10 to the winner. The winner should PM bank details to all participants, or post them here if they prefer.

I'm in.

Already backed Martin Kaymer at 66-1 and Richard Finch at the very healthy mark of 150s ... which is enough of an impediment for the pair of them to shoot 85-85 and miss the cut, though that German boy Kaymer can play and no argument, and I watched Finch for a couple of rounds in Melbourne, he could've won the Masters at Huntingdale, went over to NZ and won their Open, then won something in Ireland, he's the blonde Pommy who went in the drink on 18. You'll know him, good player. And while I normally have a strict Never Bet On Poms policy, desperate times desperate measures, etc.

So yes - I'm in.

Almost everyone, just Shaneo, who has disappeared.

MTB,
I have no problem with the results from the last comp, even if I had to work them out for myself:mrgreen:. I only worked out the people that had Tiger as I didn't really want to work out everyones, especially for those that weren't going to be close at all.

It would have been nice if Scottt had worked it out, but as he was away, it wasn't done. It would have been nice to know this beforehand so that we could have arranged something.

If you're too cheap to put up $10 and don't like the way it is run, you could probably solve everything by just staying out of the thread.

It looks to me like we have a couple of people that have put their hands up to organise results, which I thank them for. I don't know why you wouldn't have confidence in them.

British Open predictions (http://thesandtrap.com/columns/thrash_talk/2008_british_open_predictions).

Danny Ottmann
Phil Mickelson will show up again with some screwy idea like hitting a one iron off every tee and carrying nine wedges. He will promptly shoot 15-over and miss the weekend. Sorry Phil, I like you, but you are too much of a headcase this year to contend.

Good link Courty, some fun reading towards the end... ;)

How can two of the world's best strikers just go walkabout on two holes.

Scottt
18th July 2008, 04:19 PM
I finally saw that Scottish Open Adam Scott power push from three feet that you were talking about Virge. It was even uglier than you described!

If he wins it will be from plenty in front without his short putts being tested, or by sinking a heap of 12-15 footers.

I just can't see it happening unless the horrid weather stays set in and robs the better putters of their advantage.

Mate,

It is not that they are bad putters... they are the best in the world...

But jeez - some of them are just like the bad ones I do... they are not meant to do that...

Then they both go and sink everything from 15ft... it is just streaky.

Many years ago there was a golf digest article about the top 20 (or something) greatest golfers of our time. They had certain criteria that had to be met, one being winning not just multiple majors, but at least 2 different ones. But they commented that they had to include norman, for while he only won the british open he changed the game or something, and was no.1 for so long.

Maybe he can make that list without the exception being made!

But then he lost the Masters with a 6-shot lead, and we thought ... oh. Right, he is a person after all, let's like the Shark rather than just admiring his magnificent golf game.

Anthony Kim
Robert Karlsson

I heard on the news this morning that Harrington is in serious doubt due to a wrist injury? So, i'm not going to risk him not playing and have edited my tips to the following.

1. Justin Rose

Mike the reason you weren't included in the list was because unfortunately you mised the deadline to post your picks, you posted them at 1.00pm but the deadline was 12.00pm

Rules
* 5 picks (max. 2 from current top 10)
