The winner will be declared the Champion Golfer of the Year and the holder of the Golden Club.
http://img120.exs.cx/img120/7134/goldenclub.jpg

How it works

1. Prizemoney is based on the size of the round and a standard 18 hole round. You win $1000 for handing in a score, plus $1000 for every player you beat.  The event winner gets a 50% bonus.  Ties are split.   Nett scores only. $0 for an NCR.  Non-Ozgolf.net website  members are eligible for daily prizemoney.

eg.  4 in the field.
1st $6000 (4000+2000)
2nd $3000
3rd  $2000
4th $1000

2. Scores are taken from 1st tee forum at Ozgolf.net only, and provided that the event thread started well before the actual rounds are played.  Oneperson at each golf day needs to record the nett scores and the Ozgolf nicknames.

3. No limit to number of games or course played. Minimum field for an Ozgolf day is 2 Ozgolf.net website members.

4. To be eligible for the Player of the Year award the Ozgolfer must have purchased an Ozgolf Shirt or made a donation to the Ozgolf website/community.   Ineligible players may be marked with *

5. The year concludes with the Annual Ozgolf Championships or the 31st December whichever occurs first.

7. In the event of a Tie, a countback will apply, by counting the number of 1st places, If still a tie, 2nd places, and so on. If tie cannot be seperated a joint award will be made.

did yesterdays round at Caboolture count towards this Blakey :?

AndyP
9th November 2004, 09:30 AM
Jarro, you would have $7,500 by my reckoning.

I guess I should soak in the glory while I am on top of the money list. \:D/
By the end of this week, I could very well have passed my total takings from POTY 2004, in two weeks.

However, it Won't be long before I am back where I belong in the middle of the pack.

Jarro, you were disqualified for Slow Play, tampering with a competitors clubs, for wearing an earring, not having a drink in the bar after the game, and for not having a marker sign your scorecard.

I think G69 could almost beat MTB at the moment.....  :P :P

Nothlakes will be a high ranking round.... What will happen with the non ozgolfer's? Will they be included in the results? or will we take the ozgolfer's and do the points to that??

Iain

I think we should take all the results from all golfers. It saves complications should non-ozgolfers join ozgolf at a later date. Besides which, it means more money... :D

g69, don't worry, you will be able to beat me at least...

markTHEblake
9th November 2004, 05:26 PM
Iain, its an Ozgolf day. All players scores count.

This analaogy explains it best.
If Ernie Els comes to Australia and plays in the Australian Masters. he can win the Masters, take the money, but as he is not a member of the Oz PGA tour he has no standing on our money list.

However if half way through the season he decideds to join the tour and play enough events, he will of course be on the money list.

markTHEblake

Am I that enjoyable to beat ?

No, in fact nobody cares if they beat you, its kinda like you are Bangladesh playing test cricket. However nobody wants to be beaten by Bangladesh.

At them moment i guess i feel like the West Indies.

Then again, players always seem to lift when they play against me (AP excepted). Am I that enjoyable to beat ?

Can't wait till you start a game up in the 1st Tee 8) every one will be there, it'd be bigger than Northlakes :D everyone would be Guaranteed an extra $1,000

If this is the 2005 Money List, why are the numbers already racking up?

Is the top spot purely for the gross amount, or by amount earned per appearance? Surely that's more fair, and will count for more when i win the 2 annual OzGolf events I attend? 8)

If this is the 2005 Money List, why are the numbers already racking up?
Because it coincides with the OZgolf Championships. 2004 money list ended, when the Champs were held.

Gross amount.
If you only attend two events, you shouldn't qualify anyway.

Onewood

I'd like to see the top 2 on the order of merit to recieve "APPEARANCE MONEY" :D

So for this weekend AP and Jarro get $2,000.00 appearance money each 8)

These 2 are the form players on the site and to have them in a field of this size is an honour and we may learn something along the way

For this money they must make themselves available to give free lessons on the day :D

Iain

It should be double actually because he is the Ozgolf.net Champion as well.....

doin't worry, we can have a best average earnings prize too.

ie. jarro will have 83 event appearances roughly (:D opening of a wound sort of display) during the period and accrue a nice big pile like vijay or ernie.

You could easily come along to a more manageable handful, earn respectable money at a high level and clean up ;)

although statistically this isn't exceedingly fair....as i might try and sit on my $20K one off as my average...perhaps a minimum number of 12 apperances to make sure it's feasible.

i think if rich lays on the beer once a month at his gaff we can count that towards his social/money total eh?

$5000 per six pack provided, upgrades for belgian selections or old style ales from the west country (the ones with the bits of beak and twig still in them...ooo arrrr i've got a tractor i have.....ooo arr i've got an EEC subsidy..shades of alexei)

$5000 extra per bed for the night provided, egyptian cotton or irish linen counts extra $2500, breakfast cooked by his lovely wife $2500 depending on presence of black pudding and hollandaise sauce.

Its just a very rough guess as to who had bought a shirt and who didnt. dont worry it will all come out in the wash, there is 11.5 months to go.

It will be far easier to asterix you all out, and let you tell me if you bought a shirt rather than the other way around.

Good thinking Mac! It's the only way one of the non-regulars will have a chance at this prize...

Most social clubs have some system of ensuring that the players that participate the most have the greater chance of winning something. This is obviously to encourage active participation. That was my motivation for setting this up.

On the other hand, social clubs also have systems to encourage new members to join in by offering different kinds of opportunities. If someone wants to run with that go for it.

Blakey, you're doing a great job 8) I think it's a great concept and is working to a treat :D

Can I suggest one thing though  As we have a few members of the same club (4 of us at Logan) can we make it that you need atleast one Ozgolf visitor to be elible for a money round  otherwise we could play together all the time and climb the money tree :D I don't think it's set up for this...

Dave, search on shirts, look for any thread started by Clikchic

Onewood. thought about that. if you want to get the crap bagged out of you by playing the same group of 4 twice weekly for 12 months, fine go right ahead - Peer Pressure/Abuse has a wonderfull way of balancing things out :-)

Lets think about what makes a golf day an Ozgolf day?

- 1st, they occur once or twice a month.
- 2nd, a thread is posted inviting everybody too attend.

I guess you could then say that a private little foursome is not an Ozgolf day.

Updated with Scores from La Perouse and Fox Hills.
Noticed that St Micks counted as two rounds. At least we have a precedent for the 2005 season now, as Tweed only counted as one round in 2004 (even though it was two courses).

markTHEblake
26th November 2004, 09:58 AM
yeah. i figured that 36 holes counts as double the money for double the effort. G69 called it early and wanted two seperate events rather than a combined.

If it was double the money at tweed it wouldnt have made any difference to the winner.

Blakey, I noticed that you had the Gailes round listed in the spreadsheet. Is there any point in it being there, or do you want us to list the scores we had after nine holes? :?

A few movers after the Sydney game today 8) It's great to see so many games going on around our little community :D

I think OZgolf is one of the best social clubs (that play in comps) going around :P

She only needed 32pts in her last round to go to #1, but she couldnt handle the pressure. Can she bounceback and hold off Jono Steam train and knock Andy PostAnything of his perch.

We have just passed $1,000,000 in prizemoney.
147 Rounds recorded by 68 players.

I'm eagerly awaiting the new rankings after my highly succesful Gold Coast trip....... :P

Just another note to everyone who played last week. Thanks for a great week, I really enjoyed the courses and the company......As a side note, I had 38 points at The Glades (74 scratch) and Mike had 40 (68 scratch). It's a pretty nice layout, with some GREAT driving areas (gotta love Greg Norman courses).......If anyone gets to play a comp at the Glades, they have a neat little finish. They go off in a shotgun so everyone is done at the same time, and the top 12 point getters (net) have a 3 hole shootout. Mike and I got to the last hole, where we were beaten by a 67yr old Japanese woman off 22 who got 2 strokes on the 18th, made a 5 net 3 and beat our 4's......still very cool to play off in front of 50 members with 11 other players.......

one last time...

roc - Mark Stone. Long Driver.
stoney - Peter Stone, Wynnum Golf Club, 2 hcap, won the event yesterday
rok - Paul Stone (Peter's cousin), Wynnum Golf Club, 10 hcap, also played yesterday

For the record, I don't think Paul has registered on ozgolf yet. He was rok27 on ISG and has played a few events with AndyP, choppa and me etc. Top bloke, was my best man. Paul and I went to Mornington Peninsular last year and played 6 courses in 3 days as his last hurrah as a bachelor.

AndyLo, you have a lot to answer for, by tanking at Headland you let AndyP back to No 1.

Hey Blakey...

Does it count towards the money list when someone only has a single tee time and invites a couple of other ozgolfers to join him???

ie.

brooky17 invited me and rok to play a charity day this Friday at Brookwater with him and his dad. There'll be 3 ozgolfers there. He just couldn't extend the invitation to the whole forum...

markTHEblake

Well so far games like this have been counted (becuase i had forgotten about that rule), so might as well keep going the way it is. (next year there will be some changes).

I bought this up, becuase over time, we seeem to be having less real ozgolf days and many more groups of 4 with non ozgolfers included. Doesnt really seem right to me.

I prefer it to be that if the scores are posted then they will be counted. I dont want to be 'auditing' every event. Its hard enough trying to figure out all the names.

I will go as far as saying that if the event is not truly 'open' as described in the rule then the non-Ozgolf participants will no longer be counted.

Otherwise I'll leave it up to the participants. If in your own heart you beleive its an Ozgolf day then it definitely is to be counted.

Boy,
It goes to show who the real player of the year should be based on average $.
In my opinion blokes like chopps, iain and 990B are the best performed.
Agreed. There should be a prize (like the PGA tour Vardon Trophy) for the player who has the best average score/result. ie. Tiger Woods, who only shows up for the biggies.

The current POTY is more or less the money-list champion. ie. Vijay Singh etc who plays more events.

I have been trying to think of ways to change the format for next year, and love to hear some suggestions like the above.

The main thing with the current method is to reward participation as well as performance. Any idea i have considered to change it, compromises one or the other. IMHO participation is the more important one.

I like the idea of a vardon trophy being seperate. Something like Average of the best 10 rounds might be interesting, and i think my stats program can manage that.

Or if we just look at all rounds (not just ozgolf days) copy and paste the Golflink data into a spread sheet. that wouldnt be hard to to. This could also be done automatically, provided that someone can program in SQL or ASP (hint AndyLo)

Average $ shouldn't get player of the year.  You would be penalised just for playing in days that have just the one group.
A mediocore score in a big field, which may have you finishing in the middle of the field, earns you more than a good score to win in a group of four.  If average is used, this doesn't seem fair.

If people really care about this and are investing their yearly golfing wishes in it  :P , then perhaps a method similar to the tennis rankings could be used, that is, only use earnings/points from a players best x rounds.

Alternatively, get Jono onto it.
I'm sure he can devise a formula with difficulty ratings based on number in the field, quality of the field, CCR and size of g69's shorts for the day.

BrisVegas

It is what it is... The money list should reward participation and good results.

A Vardon Trophy (equivalent) should reward the player who scores the best on the occasions when they make it out. You could set a minimum 10 events for the year to qualify for the trophy, etc... I don't think it should be as complicated as looking into the golflink scores of the best 10 rounds, but maybe that's the only way to do it. The highest average prizemoney would be a good indicator.... Of course, I realise that favours participation in BIG events.... Hmm not sure.... That's a tough one...

Do you think the Vardon trophy should be based on Ozgolf rounds or All Rounds.
(all rounds means blokes like courty can have a crack at something).

Not sure. Counting ALL Rounds is going to favour someone who plays at their home track a lot over someone who only gets out for ozgolf games at somewhere different every time.

Andy-GripItandRipIt-Lo surges up the ladder this week after winning the Nudgee Classic. Coming from nowhere and now into the top 10, he is truly a contender now.

Andy-DibblyDobbly-P has retained his No1 status again. Now that the handicap is coming down we will see how he goes. Then again probably not much difference considering how pathetic the rest of us are!.

List as at 31/07/05 and includes Matchplay results to date.
Some events have not posted their scores so they havent been included yet
Highlighted in Bold are players still in the matchplay - and therefore have a lot of potential to make a big climb up the ladder.

Andy Dibbly Dobbly is still holding top position but Brisvegas is steadily creeping up, and more importantly, still is in the matchplay - but if he loses in the next round a recent NCR could bit him on the bum - a couple of thousand dollars could make a lot of difference.

Of the rest - only Iain has the class to catch up, always rises to the occasion on the big days - and if he wins the matchplay, thats more than enough to make up the lost ground.

Jarro post/play-a-lot is right up there, but has no class or any real form.

Andy-I want a new Driver-Lo form surge seems to have halted - maybe new mizuno iron covers will turn it around for him.

Eags might still be a dark horse (can we say that anymore?), but maybe doesnt have enough interest,  Terry plays too much at windaroo, Onewood is gooorrrrne, Golfer69  nuthin needds to be said,  and 990Bluva still cant find time from chasing sheilas.

3 Horse race - Vegas 3/1,  AndyP 5/1, Iain 7/1

Reminder: To be eligible to win the Player of the Year award you must be a member of the Ozgolf Player of the Year Tour.

Membership of the tour is currently costing $30, contact Goughy for payment details.

If you buy an Ozgolf shirt we will throw in one free membership.

To make it just as fair for the "haves" and the "haves nots", this includes both last years and this years shirt's issue.

Note: I am only supplying the trophy for the National Winner, who will obviously be from Queensland. If someone from NSW wants to supply/sponsor a NSW title you are welcome to do so, and define your own eligibility.

BrisVegas

I don't really understand how the Order of Merit list works & what constitutes an Ozgolf round.

From blakey's rules on page 1 of this thread...

Minimum field for an Ozgolf day is 2 Ozgolf.net website members.

i think we might as well write BrisVegas' name on the trophy right now .... he's still in the running in the matchplay, and i doubt that anybody could win enough money in the remaining timeframe to catch him anyway

Could your list work out an average money earned or something to give us NSW guys that can't get to all the events you have? I think I saw in another post something like average after playing in 15 events. 15 events might be a little too much for NSW golfers so how about 10. Would be interesting to see if it changes the list much!

Grant,  you can get that info from the spreadsheet which is available for download. The link is on the first page of this thread. I just havent posted it on the forum, because there was no easy way to do that without it getting messy.

I have also marked which state each golfer is from, so you can exclude other states.

Top 25 as at 31/10/05  only 27 days to go.

At this point its mathematically possible for anyone in the Top 8 to win. Especially if they can pick up a couple of bucks in the next few weeks.

Big Improver is Gazgolf this month - up 8 spots and into the Top 10, where he needs to stay to retain his card for next year.

Matchplay Money has been paid up for all games so far.  Eg, Gazgolf and JimandR have already received the Runner Up $$, because thats the minimum they will get (unless they forfeit).

And by BrisVegas, you mean Gaz?

Shavey's Lakelands "Pre-Q Champs" round could end up having some important money.

And by BrisVegas, you mean Gaz?

No. I mean BV, cos he is still alive.

Winner gets $64000, Runner Up $32000.

BV is guaranteed $32000, and he has already been paid it.

Same goes for everyone else that is still alive, they have been paid what they earned so far.

Shall we ban BV from playing at Lakelands to give us a chance to catch up?

blakey - gazgolf beat me yesterday at wynnum.... remember this from the matchplay thread?

30/10/05 - gazgolf def. BrisVegas 2 up

33 + 43 = 76 Gaz
44 + 38 = 82

that front 9 looks scary...... on paper that could have beeen close to a 10/8

and an interesting point - the final 4 players in the matchplay appear to be the 4 lowest handicappers. So much for the burglars, the cream has rightfully risen to the TOP!

Update as at 25/11/05

Andyp back in front as result of some recent cherry picking. There is also a smokey at #11 who has quietly climbed up from the bottom of the ladder in the 2nd half of the season.

This event is still wide open, with some big money to be paid, and most of the contenders have two events left to play.
Champs winner $102,000
Lakelands winner $30,000
Matchplay winner $32,000 (gaz or blake)

But realistically a top 10 in the champs by either of the two front runners is going to seal it for them.

Final Update 26/11/05 after the Lakelands round.

Its mathematically and realistically possible for anyone on this list to win it, so its still really close.

AndyP or Brisvegas will seal it if they finish top 4

Gazgolf or TheBlake can win it if either wins the Matchplay & Champs double and AP and BV finish outside the top 15.

990B can win it if he wins the champs and BV and AP finish in the bottom 10.

Brisvegas is the Winner.

NSW matchplay money will be added once its played, but it wont affect much. Trung easily was the best of the NSW lads, and Flowergirl was the best Victorian.

I've never authorised any pictures of me to be used in adult magazines. If the paparazzi insist on using their telephotos lenses to capture pics of me in action from the golf course, I can hardly be held responsible.

Thanks for the spirit in which the POTY battle was fought. Not sure I'll be up to it again next year. My wife issued me 29 leave passes this year... I gotta focus on the Vardon trophy in 2006 i think.

Oh, and I'm going to try and three-peat the Long Drive Title!!

i reckon you should get disqualified from winning a long drive if you either
a) hit next shot along the ground about 100m or
b) make 7 or worse.

Did you make better than 7??

You're not allowed to win the long drive prize UNLESS you go on to completely hose up the hole, either by cold topping your approach, taking 5 shots at the green, having an airswing, shanking it OOB etc...

them's the rules.

P.S. Are you coming to Brookwater next Sunday ?
