I was going to put up a post as well Maca, you beat me to it.
I am very keen to head up there for at least the final day?
It would be good to get a group of us together and head on up there to see how this game should be played

cool, just rang the hotline.

$10 prepaid for day tickets, $25 for the 4 day pass.

if you just rock up, $20 for a day ticket, $50 for the 4 day.

I might be tempted. Last year, the wife and I went up there for Sunday afternoon. Quite interesting. We followed Adam Scott for a couple and then sat on the 18th, behind the tee to watch the drives. Very relaxing. The crowds were quite modest and well-behaved.

What date was it?

Jarro
8th November 2004, 02:18 PM
count me in as well, i'd be keen to go if there's a group of us heading up.

now.. what would be the best day to go :?: probably the sunday right

AndyP

I went to the PGA on a Sunday, when play was suspended for a while due to lightning, and Peter Lonard ended up sharing the title with someone (O'Hern?) due to the light running out. (I didn't hang around until the end)
I think that might have been 2002. :smt017

You tend to walk around a bit, and have a gander at some of the holes and the players, before settling into a couple of spots.
There is one spot where you can see the tee shots of two par 3s. Spent a while there.

Anyway, won't be going this year, as I have commitments in Brisbane that weekend.

I've been meaning to go for 3 years now, but dec is always such a busy time for me. My in-laws (who I actually get on with really well) live in Bli Bli so I've got the easy place to crash.

But another year will go by without me there.

Maybe next year

As mentioned before, it looks like I'm stuck in Brisbane that weekend. If I was staying on the Coast that weekend, I'd be in for sure.

But at the same time, I'd still like to go if a few of you are making the trip. Hmmm, I'll see if I can come up with some sort of cunning plan. :-k

Thinking of going to this one this year to try out my new camera that I will be getting the week before for my 40th.

The guys that went last year did you take a camera or not. Do you remember if it was allowed or not.

Been yonks since I've been to a tournament, so not sure if they still allow the general public in with cameras.

What camera are you getting tezza? I have had the Nikon D70 for about 18 months and it has been great, apart from a circuit board problem which was just out of warranty (that was replaced for free).

If anybody is looking seriously at purchasing a new camera, check out www.dpreview.com which has reviews on everything.

Shavey,I'm getting the Canon D20.Thought about the 350,but I felt the 5 frames a second was worth the extra $$$ for what I will want to use it for (motorsports and it will be great for golf swing sequences)

Plus one of my mates has just upgraded to one and my brother in law has a Canon film SLR,so I can get help from them when i need it and hopefully can borrow there lenses if I need them till I can get all that I want.

What a top day of golf  :D man these guys can really play
The weather was perfect around 29* and a nice breeze most of the day.

Some observations of the day, most players I saw today hit a fade as their stock shot. The only players I saw who hit a draw were Allenby, Nathen Green & Sam Torrance.
I also noticed how low a lot of them tee the ball with the driver but still manage to hit a high trajectory.

The most common drivers of the day were R7's FT3's & Titlest 983E-983K

Michael Campbell & Appleby are much bigger in the flesh than what you see on T.V.   and when they need to, they both can bust huge drives :o

Jarro you would of been in your element mate, Edwin was there looking over his pupils Pamps, Lamb, Gardiner   didn't seem to be saying a lot to them but he didn't need to as they both were flushing shot after shot on the range.

Bowditch hits the longest ball I have ever seen  :smt104 he hit a few today in anger that had his playing partners just shaking thier heads in disbelief  8)

Allenby dosen't take any crap out on the course, he had a few run ins with Marshalls parking buggies in bad positions and he also had a few drunk hecklers giving him crap on some holes. One bloke was even having a go at him during the presentation  :smt017

The shortgame display today was just awsome. I suppose that is why these guys do it for a living but they made ridiculously tuff shots look easy  :smt045

The one thing all players had in common today was their rhythm and tempo, especially from within 100m. Shots would come in very high and land like a butterfly with sore feet

Overall a very enjoyable day and just can't wait to get back out on a course somewhere soon  :D

Funny how this event was soooo soooo much better than the Aussie Open. Not sure about the golf course but the crowds were there, the scoring was exciting and it was really worth watching !!!!

Eag's, did you get a chance to follow Pamps around  :?: I noticed on the coverage yesterday that he smacked a few drives wayyyyy out there .... would've been awesome to see in the flesh.

Yes Mark I followed his group for a large part of the day and he did blast some long bombs 8)
Most of the time you could see they were just swinging at about 80% just to keep the ball in play, but every now and then they would just explode a drive miles down there  especially Pamps & Bowditch :)

i remember on one of the last par 5's, Pamps flew a 3 wood 235 meters straight into the heart of the green

see he's still using the old Steelhead Plus 3 wood as well

I was up there with a mate for Sunday and it was hot!!! Arrived at 7:30am and went to the range for about an hour to watch the boys warming up. Man, these guys are incredible. Watched a few warming up with wedges to 50m out, then taking aim at a lightpole some 60m away. One of the guys hit in second shot. Two things that made my jaw drop was seeing a couple of the boys flying the 20m high net 250m out! and watching Hensby hitting Richard Greens driver (leftie) about 230m on the fly. Hensby then started taking aim at the lights on the range, just missing them. He then moved to the chipping green where Fanny starting throwing balls at his feet whilst he was trying to hit them. They were obviously mucking around and having a good time but I wondered if he has always been like that.

After all this excitement, we followed Lonard for about 7 holes then decided to take shelter in the Coolum Club hospitality tent right on the 18th green for the rest of the day :)

Drinks, cheese and crackers, cheese and crackers, cheese and crackers, drinks, buffet lunch, drinks, drinks, chocolate fondue, chocolate fondue, chocolate fondue, chocolate fondue, drinks.... all this whilst sitting down directly under the air con :)

Got up off my now fatter arse to watch the last 1/2 hour but by this time the sun was coming straight through the windows and made it extremely hot. Had sweat running down my arms and legs. But it was all worth it to watch that approach shot ;)

Stayed overnight and played Pelican and RQ on the way home. Pelican was enjoyable off the tips and the 36 degree temp at 7:30am  with humidty off the scale. Finished up, showered and a bite to eat. Back in the car and down to Royal Qld. I was warned in the carpark by one of the members that my socks were too short and my shorts too long. Changed socks and pulled my shorts up as high as they would go

First time I had played the course and was impressed with the layout. But with the restructure of the holes due to the new bridge being built, I wish I had played it earlier. 7 par 3's are always nice and with a par of 69, a round in the 70's was always on the cards :)

Hope you enjoyed my take on the golf at Coolum :D

I like your style shavey. 8)

Got any guest passes for the hospitality tent for PGA '06?? I'm all over the cheese and crackers.

I've only played RQ once but it was in 99 and the course was in very nice shape. I still don't see what all the fuss is about though... I'd rate Indro West and Brisbane as more enjoyable courses.
