    Default AFL 2016

    Hawks are playing in Brisbane!

    Freo got a bit dicked.

    West Coast top 2.

I hate how the title doesn't stay uppercase.

poor old Pav going to endure another year as their only big forward option - getting hammered by 20 something year old big up and coming backman .
He may not even last the year with the achilies injury that he has carried for a while now

Go the Eagles - getting Mckenzie back will be a huge boost , allowing McGovern to float around the back half even more.

MCGovern will play predominately forward IMO and WC will be much better for it.

2.76 goals a game is hardly nothing.

I thought the media had been talking up how much better Franklin is at Sydney.

I'm very happy that the Hawks finally come to Brisbane again. It was getting stupid missing out every year since 2008, after playing in Brisbane for 16 years straight before that. Can't it be rotated around at least a little?

Did anyone else think that the slow leaking out of the fixture by the AFL in the days leading up to the full release was a total wank?

How did you get around the uppercase problem, Yoss?

    He didn't, I did!

How do we all feel about the bye week before the finals? Think I'm ambivalent about it. I doubt it will totally stop the resting of players in dead rubber games but will probably minimise it.

I don't think it is necessary. Resting players at the end of the season for matches is a reward earned by the teams that get enough wins early in the season. Player management is a part of the game too.

Exactly. You can't force someone to play.

They could easily develop phantom injuries if forced to played.

Also, if they had to play, are they really going to give 100%? I think not.

I can't believe the AFL could be so stupid to give the other codes a leg up by having a bye in that week.
Any momentum gained by having a tight finish in the run to the finals will be lost with a week's break.
And you are right in that sides will still rest the stars regardless.

    Spot on.
Resting players Is only an issue due to betting on games IMHO.

Not a fan of bye week, but looking for positives, potentially this could be used to showcase U18s. With the interest in the draft and academy kids, a couple of interstate 18s matches could be interesting enough.

No but I wish they did! No DS in SE Qld, otherwise there would be a lot more golf played.

If they are looking for heat training on the "Sunshine Coast", they aren't getting it. It still looked like a really tough session though. 1.5 hours of footy drills followed by half an hour of fitness stuff including a lot of running.

Then it was half an hour or more of autographs and photos. Here's my young fella with his favourite player.

That's the best 1 pose photo session of the pre-season. Magic.

I am glad that this is now over. There are no further avenues for appeal.

Essendon pushed the boundaries into non-approved substances, then tried to obfuscate, cover up and pretend it never happened.

The game needs to be clean. I would like to see the key Essendon people involved - Hird, Dank and others banned for life from the game.

So good, but is it enough?

Time for the Brownlow to be handed back too.
