My yearly rant about the AFL FIXture begins NOW.
No Hawks in Qld yet again. No matches at the Gabba since the start of 2008. That's 7 years without playing at the venue, which is ridiculous. I guess they shouldn't have beaten one of the AFL's pets, the Suns, by 99 points when they came up last year.

You mean "anomaly". It is a product, not a competition.

On the plus side, you get the Crows in Qld twice!

Between 2009 and 2015 the Crows have played at the Gabba every year to the Hawks zero.
I'd love to come down to Adelaide for the Anzac Day clash against Port, but it is highly unlikely that I'll be able to do it.

Looking in more detail at the Crows draw, we play everyone who finished top 8 in 2014 at Adelaide Oval, with us playing Port and Geelong away as well. I guess we have to be pretty happy with that.
It has always confused me they you don't just play everyone once (and make preseason some kind of meaningful competition), or twice home and away (and ditch preseason). Even easier if you ditch some of the teams. I vote we get rid of Collingwood

The AFL calls that equalisation.
Are you counting the portress as an away ground?

Yes because I don't get to sit in my normal seat
And for the record, it is the Crowval, not the portress

13 Saturday games for the Doggies in 2015? Did somebody's finger slip at AFL headquarters and they put us in the 'relevant' category by mistake? Sure as shit beats the 15 Sunday games we had to play this year, 6 of which were the ****ing annoying 4.40 twilight fixture.
Still no Friday night games this season. Our last one was May 25th, 2012, so will be 4 years since we've played a Friday night game IF we get one in 2016.

Crap time slots because nobody cares and nobody cares because of crap time slots.
Maybe Saturday next year is a chance to sort that out. All you heed are bums on seats at games and in front of the tv. Screw it up and it's the Sunday twilight wasteland for a long time.
Stability with long term commitments to/from captain and coach should help that.
Oh, what?

We got rid of a club captain who didn't want to be there, then we got rid of a coach who had lost most of the senior playing group and some of the younger ones, then got rid of the senior playing group who orchestrated the ousting of the coach. Then we picked up the hottest draft prospect in 10 years who is KPF we've needed since the 90's. I'd say that's a pretty successful off-season personally.
If we get rid of Iago Montgomery from the assistant coaches role it'll be a 100% success.

will be interesting to see who gets the gig at the Bulldogs. 6PR were saying last night that Sumich is in the mix. Would like to see him get a crack at being a senior coach.
Liking West Coast's start to the season and if we aren't winning the majority of those early games it will be a very long season. Not a fan of the number of 6 day breaks but playing last few games at home should be helpful.

Word from those in the know is it's between Sumich and Luke Beveridge.
Would be happy enough either way, really. No West, no Ratten, no Bolton, no Montgomery, no Ayres.

Would have thought Sumich should be miles ahead of Luke Beveridge. Had to google him to see what his coaching experience has been and doesnt seem to be that much. I probably do have the blinkers on as given Suma didn't get the West Coast gig I am keen to see him coach somewhere. Don't know if having Woosha on the panel helps his chances or not

Apart from those in the west having their heads up their arses, how do you work this out?

Didnt take your happy pills today mate?? Sorry for having an opinion.
Two years as WAFL senior coach, 9 years as Assistant at Eagles, 3 years at Dockers. Highly regarded in football circles. Clearly got some runs on the board. So why is Beveridge better then?

Beveridge has been at a recent premiership club, and that seems to be attractive to clubs. There is probably a reason that Sumich has been an assistant for so long too, otherwise he would already be a senior coach.

No need for happy pills mate, I'm ok.
I don't know if Beveridge is better but I didn't say he is. I asked why you think Sumich is miles ahead. I don't see it

Fair call mate. IMHO he seems to have more runs on the board with his experience but honestly who knows what clubs look for when deciding on new coaches these days. For all we know it may be completely left field selection. If you want a laugh go read the Big Footy thread on the new coach. Up to about 106 pages so far.

Bloke on there by the name of Yebiga is about 2 pokes away from a Zigwah style meltdown.
Some very intelligent and insightful posters on there though. Especially that Hoges64 bloke.
"He began his coaching career in the
Victorian Amateur Football Association competition where he coached St Bede's Mentone Tigers to the C, B and A Grade premierships in consecutive seasons.
Beveridge had two years as a player development manager at Collingwood from 2009–10, where he had an input to the club's 2010 premiership.[5]
After having a year off, Beveridge joined Hawthorn in 2012 as an assistant coach specialising is working with the club's defence. Beveridge will leave Hawthorn after the 2014 season to become director of coaching at St Kilda."
Couple of premiership clubs and Playing Coach with St Bede's Mentone, the only coach to have done the three-in-a-row in that league.

I hope you are ready to copy it for posterity, if a meltdown happens!
