Qlder saving the batter's again.
Originally from WA though?
Cheers. He's so good with the ball and bat!
On the evidence of what we are seeing right now, he was too high in the order. Even Hazlewood (who can bat at bit) and Lyon have been smashing them around.
I think it does show how friendly the pitch is. It is playing a lot like a dead Perth track. Plenty of bounce and reasonable pace, but no sideways at all, and nothing through the air after the shine has gone. As was shown when we bowled, the heat is pretty tough on the bowlers as well.
Still, these last 100 runs have probably made the game safe for us. It won't be easy for India to set us enough of a target with time to get the wickets. Had we crumbled when Smith got out, it may have been an awkward finish.
One thing was answered though. Smith's batting wasn't affected by his captaincy at all. He is in hot form right now, at the perfect time.

[QUOTE=jimandr;1173406]Has anybody in the history of cricket played more innings like that one? He looks a million dollars, then gets himself out.
There is another candidate, and he just did it again.
Not only is Marlon Samuels back in the West Indies team for the umpteenth time, he just made a sparkling 33 and got out. To be fair, it was to his big weakness, the short ball at his body rather than him throwing his wicket away like Watson does. But he is 35, only played 50 tests, averages 35ish, with 20 fifties and 4 hundreds. It is a very Watson-like career, and he probably keeps getting chances for the same reason.

Good first session from the Aussies.
Curry munchas are rattled and making excesses re: warm up nets/pitches.
Need to capitalise and wrap this one up quickly.
they will rile the Aussies after lunch with the poor time wasting tactics they are so good at.

Haddin needs to go and Watson is doing my head in as he has been good to get wicket or 2 and tie up an end like he did to open day 4.
S Marsh is the anti Phil Hughes. Looks elegant and classy when he bats so the selectors can't wait to get him in the team regardless if he has scored many runs at shelf shield level.
Cowan is in good form with 4 100's and has improved his strike rate so might be worth a go at 3.
Rogers I thing has saved himself with today's knock. If Mitch Marsh can't bowl then he is out of the team as well.
For the boxing day test I would go.
