Can any of you blokes tell me how you go about hitting a fade?
I am sick of missing fairways (sometimes 2) to the left
At times, I can even hook my wedges
Just interested to hear your thoughts

Find a hole with OB or water on the right and nature takes over!!!!
It's not like we aim for a fade
Perhaps you are hitting duck-hooks because you're keeping your weight on the back foot through impact. Don't ask us choppers, go get a lesson!

Use the hosel
I think the key to a fade is to keep the clubhead swinging down the target line for as long as possible. Nicklaus did this by having an upright swing plane and by holding his hands quiet through impact. I think the flatter your plane and the more hand release you have, the harder it is to fade it.
Regardless of how you get the club onto the ball, you need to see divots pointing slightly left of the target. I suspect that at the moment, you're hitting the ball from well inside the line and hitting out accross the line most of the time.
Eag I am NO expert... but when you hook does it go straight then hook? or just straight left? or left + draw/hook?
And which clubs you tend to have a hook more often?
I was taught to setup with your feet aiming where you want the ball to start, and the club face aiming at where you want the ball to finish. From there, just hit the ball with your normal swing.
I find it hard to tell if I've hit a draw or fade when the ball is rolling along the ground!
I agree with poidda put have changed towards BV way as I got more controll. I just hold my wrist through impact and don't release. it looks more like a punch finish with the club not going behind my head.
no that was..... special
The club sliped on the downswing and then I hit the ball right on the toe.
the club slipped a few times on Sunday, I don't know why. On one of the par 3's my 7 iron went flying mid swing. luck i was a bad shot with the ball and iron otherwise the guys in my group could have been in trouble
I thought you had chucked it in disgust. It made a nice clang on the path too. Ouch for the club!
i have gone from hitting a draw, to a fade/slice by simply altering my take back. if i start my swing by taking the club back slightly outside the target line, i get my fade.
i am now off to the range for the first time in over 2 years to try and find a happy medium.
I know, I'm surprised the shaft didn't break. I'm a club slammer or kicker if I'm not happy, it was a hard lesson (I chucked a driver that found a road by mistake and was destroyed).I thought you had chucked it in disgust. It made a nice clang on the path too. Ouch for the club!
Shazza could tell you I was in shock walking to the ball, looking at my 7 iron.

Dude you have been in SE Asia for way too long..... you are starting to sound like Alo. (no offense Andy)
i just open the stance and take the club outside on the backswing, it generally works pretty well.
I find deliberate fades pretty easy to hit, but a deliberate hook/draw I find it hard to control the spin and trajectory.

Club chuckers are a disgrace. You have serious issues if you are a repeat smasher, jammer, chucker or thumper. Do you feel any regret? I mean, after all, it's only money.

You're talking my exact problem eags. Jaster was working on it with me last year. Firstly, go to golfdigest.com and see if there are some swing pics of Chris Dimarco. He has a serious hook problem and his unusual finish etc is a result of him fighting it.
My problem stems from my old outside-in swing and my old slice. I used to try and straighten it by overactively opening then closing my hands during the swing. Now that I don't need to do that I still often do (holes 6 to 10 yesterday) and then I get my hook or pull-hook.
Try going to the range and hitting 7irons with a big slice. Try it more like a punch shot. Set up with you feet way open, and I mean way way open. Weaken your grip and open the clubface. Then start hitting punch shots. Keep the club on the outside going back then hit through the ball making sure the clubhead follows your feet line. Try keeping your hands open throughout this. Your finish should be with your arms horizontal, out in front of you and with the club horizontal too. Have the clubface pointing straight up at the sky.
Jaster had me doing 20 of those, then hitting some normal shots but with a straight set up. It did work, but I don't spend enough time practicing to really groove the feel. I lost it altogether on Sunday.
Also keep the weaker grip in play. I forgot that too sunday.
He also thought my swing plane was way to flat, hence the draws. He wanted to see my hands finish high rather than wrapped around me.
Something I added for myself. When I finish I actually finsih with my right hand touching my head. If I've kept my hands open for a straight/fade shot then the part of my hand just below my thumb touches my head. If I've tried to hit a draw then the back of my hand below my knuckles touches my head.
It seem complicated, but I do one or 2 practice swings rehearsing this then during my actual swing all I concentrate on is what part of my hand touches my head.
Confused now? I bloody am. No wonder I shot 90+ yesterday.
Ok guys, thanks for the tips a lot of it has been helpful (apart from the dribble by some )
I will be heading to the range to give them a go.
