Family Holiday ideas in Melbourne

Flowergirl, Bruce, et al...

We're heading down next Feb 14-17 for a long weekend and am after suggestions for things to do and see with a 6 month old and 3 year old. Sandy and I have done the Ocean Road, Torquay, Geelong, Mornington Peninsular area before. We get in Thursday night and fly out Monday morning and we'll prob stay at the airport or close by on those two nights.

We're thinking of checking out Phillip Island, San Remo and that area. Are there places to see the Penguins? Any other must see things out that way? Is there a ferry from Phillip Island back across to Mornington Peninsular? That would be cool.

We'll prob spend Saturday night/Sunday in Melbourne (museums, shopping etc), so we'd be looking for Fri/Sat things to do and a place to stay.

EDIT - have decided to base ourselves right in the city, so we're looking for suggestions for things to do and see close in.
