I am a relatively new member on here signing up around the end of May I think it was. You can see how many posts I've got already. There is heaps of stuff you can get involved with here and post about. It's not hard at all. The way I look at it is if you join a forum but you don't like the rules, don't complain about it, go somewhere else. I'm not trying to shoot you down here, just trying to give another "new guys" opinion. I agree that some guys here get a little protective of Ozgolf and it can unfortunately get narky sometimes but there are many that join this site and don't complain about the requirements for posting in the pro shop. They join the community, get involved and benefit from it. If all you want to do is come along and post in the pro shop, then your not really getting to whole point of the forum in the first place, so the rules have done their job.
Ahhhhh sigh.
Ok. So if i come in here and post absolute crap 10x or 20x a day for a week or 2 then somehow i must be a much more trustworthy person and i can sell things legitimately over someone whom has been on the forum for months and only really posts when im looking for advise or help on certain things? YEP GOTCHA!!!
It's not a perfect system, but people need to remember that the main purpose of the site is to provide a forum to talk about golf. The pro shop is an added bonus, albeit a very popular part of the site.
The 40 day/post thing is a good idea IMO. Think of it like the clubhouse at your local golf club. If you're a bloke who sells and swaps gear at ridiculously good prices around the club, you would much rather do this for blokes you have played with or shared a beer and a chat with in the clubhouse. The same principle applies here.
At the end of the day though, it's a rule of the site and it's not up for review. It's not draconian, or even difficult to crap out 40 posts in 40 days. Start a welcome thread, drop a few comments here and there, and you'll find that the majority of posters will respond well and be quite welcoming.
That said, I also agree that new members can cop it a bit heavily around here sometimes, and I'm going to raise that with the mods.
Still not playing enough GolfLink | Slightly less terrible stats brought to you by Golfshot - F: 57%, GIR: 23%, UD: 14%, P: 34. Wow, improvement! | Nickent brand ho or tightarse? You be the judge!

For the future, I think the 40&40 stipulation should have 20 added to both sides for each post complaining about it as forum rule.
If you don't like the rule, don't sign up in the first place.
There are plenty of other options for selling gear out there.

Is a rule with multiple workarounds that aren't policed really a good rule. I think not.
I know what your saying but it is what it is for now. I haven't been here that long and I'm sick of hearing people complain about it. Must be painful for long term members hearing new people whinge about it. It's so easy to abide by that rule. If it was 365 days and 1000 posts, there might be cause for complaint but 40 posts and 40 days? It's so easy.
