Default Week commencing 14 April 2014

Started my week off at Cabramatta for their Masters breakfast/comp/pizza. The team component was a split 6 aggregate multiplier (I think...), plus we drew one of the Sunday Masters field, whose Sunday score would be converted to stableford points and added to our individual scores. Course was almost as tricked up as it could be, being just about off the plates and with a few very testing pin positions.

Titty, Gammon, another of Titty's mates and myself started on the 2nd. 3 of us hit rubbish tee shots, which sort of set the tone for what followed.

For me it was 2 nines of 12 points with a few wipes, 1 pointers, a 2/4 on the 12th, and too many audacious attempts to take pins on instead of playing safer.

It was a fun day though!

78 nett 74 today at Gosnells. Solid triple on 9 to finish the first half. 6 inch par putt on the 10th that never touched the hole. The greens were cored a fortnight ago, they were playable, just but I keep leaving everything 2 feet short. The new putter rolled pretty well apart from that. Hopefully get out this week before I go back to work.

Easy. Hit it in the left bunker, knife over the green into the other pot where it plugged in the back lip. Couple out of there and 2 putts.

5 over off the bat at Penrith, a pretty decent score but legitimately left an easy 6 shots out there. Drove the ball really well but recently renovated greens were quite tricky.
Was lucky enough to win scratch doubles with a mate visiting from QLD.

Par event for -5 (-2, -3) - played okay but had six 3-putts - need to get the ball closer on my approaches

I played OK for 34 points today despite some woeful chipping. I finished with a spectacular birdie, but got no reaction from the guys watching on the balcony. Tough crowd.

No really bad shots, which was a bit of shame in a way, because the club pro was in my group. I booked myself in a for lesson after the game, so I'll have to describe my really bad swing problem to him rather than just saying you saw it, please fix it.

The best thing was when the guy he was playing with and having a look at after giving him a lesson put one in the trees in a impossible spot. The guy then said, I'll give you $1000 if you can teach me how to put this next one three feet from the hole. Everybody laughed for the rest of the hole. I thought it was funny, anyway.

So, my future golf might be a lot better, or a lot worse after next Monday. First genuine lesson in 30 years.

Played Monday in the Parkwood Trainee Pro am .. turned into a wet soggy and slow day which set the tone really. Finished up with 30 points thanks to a couple of solid 4 point birds. Must of been a hard slog out there but as only 6 of the pro's shot in red numbers.
Surprisingly 32 points got prizes so I wasn't far off a prize but no chance of winning due to a fella off 13 shooting 48 points , probably put the trainees in his group to shame. Might get out and play a few more of the trainee events.

Many Trainee pros (there maybe only 5 or 6 that can play) would be lucky to play off 14 on a good day! Good laugh first tee ask "what are playing for" and then watch them shot 85 haha.
It would be great to play on a wet and soggy track it is so dry here!

I think you will find that the most trainees are playing off about 3 at the most. Playing the game, to a high standard, Is actually part of their curriculum.

They must have improved!! A few can really play well. Maybe not the thread to discuss that not many of trainee pros pass the playing requirements.

Trainee day are fun play thats more my point!

Good Friday single stab at Cairns with Solarman this morning.

    A tale of two nines.

+7 for 14pts on the front including a double (wipe) on Index 18.
-1 for 22pts on the back with 2 birdies (including a birdie on Index 2).

6 FIRs (all misses were left )
    7 GIRs
    30 putts

Played with a just turned 14 year old who has been playing for a year. Last time I played with him in August he was off 29.

Today he was off 11 after shooting 75 on Wednesday.
Which he backed up today. Four bogies and a birdie and 14 pars.

I had 81 for 33 points but felt schooled by the kid.

Was good fun and we got thru 18 in 3 hours 15. Nice

    38 points (17/21) at Richmond. 3 birdies, 29 putts.

If it wasn't for 1, wipe, 1, 1 to finish the front 9 it'd have been a round to remember.

49 points in the 2 ball, and getting on the NTP marker on 15, should hopefully hold up.

Greens are excellent. The day next Sun should be spectacular as long as the weather is good.

Played 4BBB stroke today , I ended up shooting 80 off the beater myself for what would of been a solo net 70 but my team mate managed to get on the card once to turn it into a team net of 69. Was a fantastic day as I wasn't exactly worried about my own golf , playing with one of the pro's who is about to head off to start his season went around the course in 61, and made it look easy by missing about 3 or 4 6 ft putts along the way.

Pretty happy I am keeping consistent with shooting around 80-85 mark but would like to have a round that clicks soon and go lower.. Next week is Ambrose and then club champs start so I guess A grade it is this year. I hope I can string together 4 rounds under 85.

    6 FIRs
    9 GIRs
    34 putts.

Versus par this morning at Cairns GC.

I shot +1 on each side for a +2 finish. One interesting thing to note is that 6 of my 7 plusses came by making par on indexes 1 through 6.

    7 FIRs
    9 GIRs
    30 putts.

I also note that I've now had 6 consecutive rounds in the 70s. First time I've ever done that, and pointing it out also guarantees the next round won't be.

31 points up here Noosa-Tewantin. Although not sensational, it was great to get a round in and actually hit driver well.
My bunker play was horrid which cost me a few shots, but a birdie and a string of pars will get me back next week while I'm still on holidays.
It's a nice track up here and enjoyed my round with a few of the members.

Started with a great par that was almost a bird. Then hit one a little left into no trouble only to walk up and not be able to find it. Anger and a string of 1 pointers ensued. Calmed down at the turn shot 20 points with a 3 putt from 7 feet wipe and finished 6 down. Stupid game.

Well done Courty/Kristian/Waddzy! Bit of form starting to happen around here.

I hit more fairways today than I have in about a year ( and most of the misses were well and truly in play. The swing fix is finally kicking in (touch wood) and I went an entire 18 holes without a smother hook for the first time in forever.

Overall hit the ball pretty welI, putted like a bastard though with 3 x 3 jags (and another one or two from just off the edge) and missed 5 or 6 makeable putts inside 5 feet, the worst was a 3 footer for bird on 15. But I still managed 38 points after all that so really can't complain - just felt like a missed opportunity to break 80.

Golf can EAD as far as I'm concerned! Actually, make that a whole bag!

Stroke round. Had 88 nett. Raised the bat. Putter was the only club that worked today. Had 29 putts including one 3 stab. But I guess that just reinforces how bad everything else was. I was 3 off the tee no less than 4 times and lost 6 balls. Had a really bad case of the lefts. Maybe you have passed your hook problem on to me Ben.

And to top it off, stoked that I nominated today for my Fireball round.

32 points (15/17) - had a bad case of head-lifting throughout the round but putted well for a change - always happy if there's a 3 in front of the score

Finished the week a hell of a lot better than I started it, that's for sure!

Runner up in A grade, win in the 2BBB, and my NTP held...pretty satisfied with the day's work.
