    Default WDYSTM - April 2024

I'm going to start a new thread, partly because we need one and partly because the weather forecast (correct so far after 12 hours of rain) is so bad I'll be lucky to get a game for the next two weeks.

I used to be in a purple patch of form, but I've gone straight to slump, not helped by a wet golf course where I'm smashing my drives about 170, and can't reach greens.

So my 33 yesterday is my best round for over a month, and will meet my criteria for reporting only 'good' rounds.

Played round 2 of pennant today, and we got royally fuuuuuuuuuukkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeeeeddddddddddddd. I was in the unfortunate position of watching our #2 go down 9&7. Then the team went down 1 1/2 to 6 1/2. I got the only win for the team, winning 6&5 with Adam picking up a half. I was playing extremely well, and won the last hole with a 15 metre birdie putt, 3rd for the day.

21 points today at Alice Springs.
    Wasn't focussed.
When I actually setup properly, I hit it well.
Shame I didn't focus enough to do it more often during the round

Had my best round for a couple of years on Sunday. Won the B grade Monthly Medal stroke comp at Stirling with a 79 gross 66 net. Played well but also left a few out there. Hopefully trending back to A Grade soon with a couple more good rounds.

Monthly Medal Saturday, proving that like many a good racehorse I'm definitely better off a spell. Feels like the longer the better too, though that's just probably my wishful thinking.

Hit it OK, nothing super exceptional, nothing super dumb apart from the compulsory missed putt from around 15 inches.

    75-3-72

    10/14 Fairways Hit
    12/18 GIR
    32 Putts (2 x 3-jiggles)
1 putt missed under 2 feet (sad this is a stat I have to track )
    3 Birdies
    9 Pars
    6 Bogeys
    6 / 10 Up n Downs

    Now for another month off...

87/75 in the monthly medal on Saturday, unfortunately five rubbish holes ruined an otherwise ok round. Partly caused by shit golf on my part, partly bad luck, some of which was a result of the golf.

Sunday no comp even though the course was open. Too many wimped out. Just played socially and worked on some stuff.

-6 in a par round on Saturday - playing from the tips at Brookwater wasn't the "ease back into it after a 3 week break" I was looking for. The par format flattered me. Think I lost 4 balls.

31 pts today in a mid-week stableford. Hit it OK, putted poorly. Might buy a new putter.

Golf sucks. I am suffering Lefty Luck at the moment, and channelling his hate.

Played white comp Sunday, somehow off 3, my lowest ever daily. 26 points. 2 unplayables behind trees 2m off the fairway. 418 putts.

32 points off 6 off the blues today. Going double double double on 10-12 ended any momentum.

Played to 4,1,4 dropping off now, so the cap is going to shoot to the moon which would be nice.

32 Points on Sunday. Course playing with 18th split in 2. The temp 17th is playing about 80 meters and anything left finshes 20 meters from the green.

Mostly scrambled points after a poor start. Playing with a guy off 6 who kept saying he was a better golfer off 11 (he played like a 18+)

33 points on Saturday and Sunday. Irons and short game/putting have been going ok, I had 3 chip ins and a few more near misses, but wasting too many shots punching out after wayward tee shots.

1st hit in the last 7 weeks. Went better than expected, pretty steady with 2 rank shots leading to 2 wipes. Otherwise, bulk mediocrity.

86 today off 13 for 31 points at Stirling. Hit it pretty good, just made a couple mistakes on a few holes including an 8 on 18. Had some good birdie looks that didn't drop as well.

Yesterday. 2 over with a 4 footer for par on 12, set myself on fire to shoot 82/76.

    Today, Handicap Matchplay.
Was 2 down after 10 and in big trouble, then chipped in for birdie on 11, birdied 14, and won the match 3/2 on the 16th, playing the last 10 holes one under.

slogged around in the rain at Minnippi on Sunday in 4 over for 9 holes. I really quite like the course. Haven't played in a couple of weeks, so wasn't expecting much. Next game is Barnbougle in 2 weeks!!!

S.A OzGolf social game at Wallaroo.

3 of us made the 2hr drive from Adelaide over to the Yorke Peninsula to have a look at the course now it has Greens. None of us had played it when it was Scrapes either.
First hit since my trip at start of Feb the swing was very rusty. Failed to make half decent contact until halfway through the front nine and battled any contact consistency until the last 3 holes.
Played a shot I’ve never played before.
Couldn’t get enough takeaway due a built up Tee block sleeper wall. Hit the ball into the wall with nothing great coming from it but didn’t end up in a worse spot.
Putted well draining a few good ones to save things from being worse.
Blew some rust off the game ready for another “Where’s Hatchman Playing” starting this Sunday.

30 points yesterday in one of my most frustrating rounds on the greens I've ever had. Overall the ball striking was improved over recent efforts, but I must have had a world record number of lip outs. I lost count after a while, seemed to happen just about every hole on the back 9.

Birdied the first. Nothing good ever happens after that.... Actually, picked up last prize in the rundown. Thats good.

Now for two days of stroke at Murrumbidgee CC, and no ability to keep driver on the planet. Yay

Your driver knows you're further south than your usual Orchid garden, of course it's going to play up...

Its no good at home. I'm now heading back to one of the Junior clubs to see if I can find a groove. Lot less water and trees there.

Only social rounds so far this month.

07/04/2024, Wolston Park GC, White Tees (Scr 64 Sl 113 Par 66), Social.

    Scoring PPPBBPPBb bBBPBBPPP; 37-35-72 (+3:+3:+6).
    Played to 8.0.

I was hoping to beat up on the course from the front tees. I didn't. I did have back to back birdies though, and followed that up with an OOB drive, but still bogeyed that hole. Short game was very good.

14/04/2024, Wolston Park GC, White Tees (Scr 64 Sl 113 Par 66), Social.

    Scoring XPPPPBPBP PPBPPBPPP; 41-34-75 (+7:+3:+10).
    Played to 9.0.

Not the desired warmup and dumped my first two shots in the water leading to a quad. Pretty good after that, although reliant on the short game again.

20/04/2024, Minnippi Golf, Blue Tees (Scr 71 Sl 130 Par 72), Social.

    Scoring PBXBPPBPP PbPPbPPPB; 41-35-76 (+5:-1:+4).
    Played to 4.3. SCH 4.9.

Great play after the first few holes. Even par for the last 14 holes, one under for the last nine. Irons were super straight.

    Default WDYSTM - April 2024

27/04/2024, McLeod GC, Blue Tees (Scr 71 Sl 132 Par 71), McLeod Cup.

    9/13 fairways, 8/18 GIR, 30 putts.
    Scoring (B9 1st) PPBBPPBPB PPPPPPPBP; 38-38-76 (+4:+1:+5) nett 70.
    Played to 4.3. Golflink 5.4 (-0.3).

I had a mini goal of beating the gross score (79) of the 15 handicapper chump who won the McLeod Cup 20 years ago.....

I beat him with a few to spare. Hit it well, played smart. While I had 8 GIR, I had putter in hand after an approach shot 13 times. I didn't get too many good looks at birdie though and had trouble getting the longer putts to the hole, particularly from off the green. Three of the bogeys were on par 3s, but a few were playing at 180m+, so a bogey or better result was acceptable.

Finished with the equal 7th best nett score (66 won), and equal 5th best gross score (71 won), so I should get some sort of prize from that depending on the grading.
