    Default Match Committee Responsibilities

    Hi all

Question for the more knowledgeable OzGolfers.
What are the responsibilities of the Match Committee? Rules only or are there other jobs that they do?

The match committee's responsibility is to stay out of my way.

I think Speirsy, mike and CobraSS might have a better idea.

At my club match committee is generally responsible for:

    1. Club events/board events. The organisation, format and running of these, including any rules/draw issues that arise from them

    2. Pennant
    3. Our Pro/Director of Golf reports to the match committee
    4. Record keeping of course records, sigificant achievements
    5. Course/hole rating issues and handicapping issues if they arise.

and any other 'playing' related issues that arise along the way.

Well thanks for the responses. I was asked to do it in a quick phone call last week and I stupidly said yes. I now have reservations in doing it as it really has no powers @ Macarthur Grange. I have been told it will be for Rules and nothing else. To me that is a waste of my time, as I know that every time i have pointed rulings out in the past they have been changed by the board of Governors.
On a 4 man committee I was to be the only non board member on it.
The reason I asked the question as I went into the club . Upon Arrival I find out a new 9 hole comp had been created for Thursday afternoons, I thought I would have some say in the suggestion. I commented that the course should not have comps scheduled to run 3 days running with Social clubs on Sunday in the current climate (we have not watered fairways for 7 months). I was told the matter had nothing to do with me as the match committee was just for rules.
Should I quit or try and get them to see that they are doing it all wrong?

How can you be on the committee of a course you aren't a member at ?

When the last managment took over the place was going somewhere, they also dropped the membership to a level that the course was worth, I renewed the membership I was going to let lapse. Since then there has been a coup of sorts. The owner reneged on the lease and kicked the guys from Logan City out, he has brought in some guys who manage gyms and they are now running the club. They are closing the pro shop and putting a gym in. They are putting a driving range with floating balls that you won't be able to hit a club any longer than a 8i. Watch the club cease to exist in 2 years or less. About 30 members left this week, I tried to get my money back but they said no.

In additon to what's been said above. At my club, the match committee are also responsible for the creation of the yearly program of events (a pig of a job so I'm told) plus running all the championship and major events. The match committee members are usually referees of the various finals of championship/major events played on our finals day.

Grant - all your post tells me is that you're right and they're wrong. If that's how you feel, quit the role.

Golf clubs need the comps to survive. The course will degrade whether people play there or not until we get enough rain to keep it growing.

In one breath you say that you are taking on roles at the club, and in another you are trying to get your money back. I'm going to press the dob button the next time you post anything about Mac Grange.

Quit grant - it's more trouble than it's worth for a club of only 30 members (not that they aren't nice people) - like Fishy said - if you've got no say - then all you'll be is a figurehead for people to complain to and backstab!
