    Default WDYSTM - May 2024

Par comp yesterday and round.d 1 of knockout. I had to give 14 shots and still made it to the 18th. Unfortunately lost 2 down after my opponent made birdie with a 30 metre putt from off the green while I was 8 feet for my birdie chance. To rub salt into the wound I shot 75 off the stick for square on the day and lost the day on a countback to my opponent.

We played par today too. I was solid tee-to-green, but putter was ice cold. Glacial. Birdie-free 78/-3.

I had a few hits at the start of May.

    02/05/2024, KDV Sport Par 3, Solo 9h.

    Scoring PBPPbPPPP; 27 (E).

Pretty good, although I don't really know what the expected score for my level of golf would be. Over par, I would think, considering the average hole length would have been 70-80m.

    02/05/2024, Tally Valley, Solo 9h.

    Scoring XPBBPBBPP; 39 (+6).

A bit of a chop fest, after a couple of beers at lunch, and not enjoying the course.

03/05/2024, Oxley GC, Black Tees (Scr 72 Sl 123 Par 71), Back Marker, Stroke.

    7/14 fairways, 5/18 greens, 30 putts.
    Scoring BPPPBBPPX PBBBPBPBP; 39:42:81 (+5:+5:+10) nett 75.
    Played to 8.3. Golflink 5.8 (+0.4)

Mixed bag, but a few too many recoveries needed from drives in the trees, and not enough greens hit.

04/05/2024, Wolston Park, Gold Tees (Scr 66 Sl 119 Par 67), Monthly Medal.

    8/11 fairways, 8/18 greens, 32 putts.
    Scoring PPPBBBbbP PPBPBBBBX; 36:40:76 (+1:+8:+9) nett 71.
    Played to 9.5. Golflink 5.8 (+0.0)

Scrambled early, before it caught up to me, but managed a couple of birds in a row to tidy up the scorecard, including a tree rebound onto a green, and had a putt on 12 to go even with the card. Missed that one, then the tap in after it FFS, and it was downhill from there. I couldn't hit an iron properly from that point on and threw in a couple more uncharacteristic 3 putts to trash my score.

06/05/2024, Wolston Park, White Tees, Social 13 holes.

Played golf with the family, and with the irons performing badly over the preceding days, I decided to only use irons off the tee for practice, with ordinary results. I didn't hit many greens that's for sure.

    4/8 fairways, 3/13 greeens, 21 putts.
    Scoring PPBBBPPBP PPBP; 39:15 (+4:+1:+5) thru 13.

Yesterday was a load of nonsense shooting 91/80 at Oxley. Got stuck in the stupid movement of falling off the ball on tee shots, and most of them went right into the trees as a result.

Today I went to McLeod since Oxley is closed for the schools championship. Managed to avoid the falling off shots this time and hit it better off the tee. Still not as consistent as I'd like, but mostly in play at least. Shot 84 for 34 points. Pretty happy with 28 putts although a fair few of the one putts were up and downs. Chipping is going well at least 🥴

4BBB stab on Sat. Partner and I had 40 points. I played to hcap (7 over), with a couple of 3-jabs and a couple of lucky long putts. Only one shank.

Quick 9 holes after work at Thaxted and a personal best for 9. My practice in the net seems to be paying off. All I've been working on is punch chip shots and the better contact seems to be flowing on to my longer clubs and full shots.

Won Matchplay 6/5 giving up 10 shots in a 2 club wind.

Was three over through 13, on 30 points if I was playing Stableford.

    A Grade winner was 36.

Who would have thought a range session would be productive

Finally played a decent round again today shooting 78 for 40 points. Helps putting tee shots in play apparently. Still got pipped by a point in my grade and overall but a lot happier with how I played than I have been lately. 8/14 fairways, 8 greens, 30 putts.

17/05/2024, City GC, Leon Treadwell Memorial Day, 4-person ambrose.

We had a win. Off 7.75 with 6, 14, 20, and 22 markers we had 11 birdies and paid for an eagle to submit 13 under gross, 20.75 under nett. I hit drives great, and not only hit plenty of greens, but put plenty near the pin; the front tee markers helped. I didn't have to putt too many times, but that seemed okay too, except for one.

18/05/2024, Wolston Park GC, Social 15 holes.

Started the first hole like I played the day before, before missing a couple of drives, and was a couple over through six holes. We had decided to skip holes 6 to 8 with a group of five holding things up, but we were never getting 18 holes in before sunset after starting at ten to three (we were surprised that we got 15 in).

Continued on from my form from the day before, hitting fairways and greens and got it back to one under for the 15 holes. I would have liked to have gone back to play 6 though 8 to see if I could shoot even or less. After looking at my scorecard, I was shocked to see that I had scored three under on the back nine. Admittedly off the front markers, but bloody hell, I've never done that before.

    5/9 fairways; 11/15 greens; 25 putts (1.67 per green)
    Scoring: PBPBb...B bPbbPPPPP; 25:29:54 (+2:-3:-1).

33 points today in the wind. The first hole was a bit of an adventure. Topped my drive, flushed a 4 iron into a tree branch, hit the next into a bunker then holed a 20 footer or so to 'save' bogey. Hit it ok otherwise, not as good as yesterday but considering I used to struggle to get to 30 points in the wind I'm not too disappointed. One wipe on 17 after I pushed a gap wedge into a bunker and completely short sided myself 🤦🏻*♂️

3 fairways, 5 greens, 26 putts over 17 holes. Quite a few up and downs contributed to the low putts. I'm pretty happy with my chipping and short game lately, I feel confident I can get up and down from most situations I encounter. Certainly takes the pressure off the approach shots.

Damn good golf. I don't imagine the front markers make a particularly big difference at Wolston Park?

It does. Whites are the social markers. It makes the approach distance for a lot of holes 8 iron or less for me, which is more comfortable for my approach game.

I guess it's good when +3 is a bad round, but this morning was frustrating.

    bPBBPPPPP-bPPPPXPbX 73/33pts

Missed a few putts, failed to get up and down for birdie from a few very good spots. I had 6 flags in my most recent 7 rounds, so have a reasonable chance to make a run at a new low cap. Can't afford to make stupid compound mistakes like I did on 15 and 18.

Not a bad weekend for me this week. Starting to hit the driver more consistently in the fairway or at least missing close enough to still be in play more often than not.

84/34 points yesterday, only 4 fairways and greens but scrambled okish to grind out a score. 29 putts.

80/38 points today. Ball striking was better hitting 8 fairways and 9 greens (including the 210m par 3 13th for once), but I didn't putt well with 34. Finished with the only birdie of the day, which was a nice finish but a little disappointing considering a few others were good chances. Overall though happy to be hitting it better again. Hopefully continue that next week in the monthly medal.
